"Not Such A Great Way To Fly"... continues

In the same article (27/1/07 ST Life! pg 6),Ms Janine Karen remarked,"Many girls join the airline because they consider wearing the sarong kebaya glamorous, and not because they love to serve people".
Now, who can sincerely tell me they love serving other people. Come on, lets not be naive. 99% of human beings loved to be served and not to serve.
"To serve others" come with a price. If the price is right, the service may be better but not necessarily "sincere".
Do not for moment think the airline loves you.Its the bottom line they are after and that matters most.
My 35 years of flying and training/checking experience had taught me that.
So for Pete sake, don't whine and don't blame the crew if you feel discriminated or that the
"Singapore Girl image has done SIA in" because no one has done anyone in.
May I ask you, if a product is overpriced but the sales girl is warm and sincere, would you buy it? If your answer is yes, then you are just being an emotional sucker thats all!
Come in here more often and uncle boh tong could teach you a thing or two! and I am sincere...hehehe.

Mayb that writer has nt flown other airlines so she doesnt knw what service is n what sincerity means...Putting on the kebaya doesnt make the work more glamorous when behind the scene they dont see that the crew do.. they work their butts out...

There should be a system to test and see who really likes to serve, girls could be employed based not solely on looks and put thru a training programme where they can be axed anytime if they dont seem likely to be able to serve with a warm smile and from their hearts. This way, only the truly service oriented girls will graduate to become stewardesses. Just like the pilots, who from day one, have to go thru countless tests and observation from senior mgt pilots to see if they really have what it takes to become future Captains.

Hi BT and Lolita,
Yes, I will find time to visit the forum page.
As for the women are not robots issue, dont get me wrong, I know what you mean. What I am trying to say is that there can be a system to ensure that only those who truly wanna serve with a smile are employed instead of basing only on looks cos not all pretty girls can serve. And of course, there can be some bad days for the people who can really serve too cos we are all humans.
