Aircraft visit was a day of bringing the trainees to the airport and spending most of our time in the cabin of planes that were parked there.
This part of the program came in when the trainees had completed the sections on cabin, toilet and galley layouts.
All of us looked forward to the visit. To me, it was away from the routine work at the office or training center and for the girls, the airport and the real planes were a fresh and welcome change from the classroom.
We met early in the morning at the airport and exchanged our passes for the visitors' passes to enter the airport departure/arrival areas.
As a trainer, I did not have to change my pass as it was a pass for most restricted areas.
The trainees were told the day before the visit ,to put on the best behaviour and observed proper dress code.
The real excitement came when we enter the aircraft cabin. The girls were shown the real galleys, cabin, toilets gadgets, the electrical panels, the light switches and so on which they had learned from the manuals and mockups.
Sometimes, the trainees would get carried away and talked too loudly amid the excitement. This was where I had to come in and reminded them they were stewardesses to be and should not display such emotions publicly.
We spent the whole morning going from one airplane to another.
After a few hours of waiting and visiting the a/c interior, I then brought the girls for a tour of the airport areas.
By about 1 pm the class was dismissed and proceeded for lunch or home.
It was an uneventful day for me but for the girls it was a fun day of practical learning.
