Don't want to mention this captain's name cos he may not like it...but I certainly think he was gutsy and did the things few commanders would do.
Let's call him Capt.LSC and he was a local pilot.
This incidence happened om my flight where Capt. LSC was in command. During that night flight to Melbourne (MEL) via Sydney (SYD), a Caucasian passenger in the economy class complained to the cabin staff that he witnessed both pilots walking along the main deck aisle of the B747 at the same time. "Who the hell is in the cockpit flying this damned plane?" this passenger shouted at the cabin staff.
The crew explained to him that it was impossible for the two pilots to be out of the cockpit at the same time. According to the regulation, one of the two pilots must remain in the cockpit at all time during the flight.
"Bullshit!" came the reply and that passenger demanded the captain apologise to him or else......
When Capt LSC was told of the passenger's complaint,he remained cool and flash a big smile at me.
When the flight arrived at SYD, Capt. LSC ordered the passenger who earlier accused him and his co pilot of deserting the cockpit during the flight to be offloaded. The complaining passenger and his wife was shocked at hearing the news. They pleaded with Capt. LSC to let them fly to MEL. but the capt. refused.
Later on,I asked Capt. LSC how he was going to justify the offloading of the passengers,he replied cheekily with a wink..."that ass**** had undermined the confidence of the rest of the passengers by stating that me and my first officer was sleeping on the job"
