I was with Singapore Airlines( SIA) for 35 years as a TYRANT cabin crew and TYRANT executive. I left the airlines during the SARS period of 2003 when SIA was losing huge sums of $$ (in our pockets mah! ) Today,SIA has recouped its loses and make tons of $$ and is the first airlines to fly the super jumbo of A380. Congrats Singapore Airlines and we ,ex CCEs love you and want to come back to work with our LIP-SERVICE that other Airlines talk about and we want to WISH you all the best with our LIPS!

Steward ( male flight attendant) stories.
Some of my visitors asked me why don't I blog about the good crew? The answer is, it's always more interesting to know the bad ones first and they are more newsworthy. As for the average good crew, few people would want to know their stories. They are duller and monotonous.
All said,I will blog about some of the things the good crew and paxs did, albeit may be less interesting than those sensational ones.
There was this story I clearly remember about this senior steward. Let's say his name is Willy. He had been 30 years with the airlines and had been a very husband and father to his children. During his night stop at outstations,he seldom mixed with the crew. He scrounged and stinged to save every cent he earned.
Willy did not smoke nor drink but occasionally try to flirt with the stewardesses. It wasn't that the stewardesses did not like him. He was a nice man who's always there for his crew but he didn't have the "Oomph" or that extra factor that could attract the girls.
His stops from HK to Japan to London,Las Vegas,Australia and all over the world were boring and fun less. He behaved in that way so he could save all his salary to pay for his upmarket landed property which he bought many years before.
Today that house of his is fully paid and valued at S$2.5 million*. Not bad for a steward ya? But I supposed Willy must have suffered a lot because from his early 20s when he first joined the airlines till he retired a few years ago,he never once ate at a nice restaurant or buy himself expensive clothes or jackets. He would usually bring canned food, Maggi mee and ate them with bread in his hotel
room in order to save his meal allowances given by the airlines.
Willy's wife Chris was a sexy woman, working as a secretary in an Australian company based in Singapore. Chris was at least ten years younger than Willy and a bubbly, jovial and mischievous type of person. She was her boss's darling.
One day, after a long tiring flight,Willy came home and was shocked to receive a note from Chris telling him she was leaving him for her boss. In fact, she had secretly applied for her Australian PR and had eloped with her Aussie boss. They had both retired and lived in Australia.
Poor Willy! He was devastated and attempted suicide. Today,Willy has been remarried to a lady introduced by his friend and had started a new life together. I've heard he is now a much happier man but then who knows what his new wife is going to do next as she is 20 years younger than him.Besides, his young wife is a China lady from Hainan,an island off the southern coast of China!
*Willy had to sell his house as it was a matrimonial home and gave half of the proceeds from the sale to his ex wife. He sold it at a much lower price, perhaps 1.5 million less than today's value.

Hey what about the stewards huh?
In each galley complex or class (except for first class),SIA usually roster one GS to carry out meal checking, cleaning of pots, pans, galleys etc. and meals preparation, serve meals...
These handsome guys do not appear in the cabins as often as the SIA girls unless there are beautiful female passengers around. They would then be busy pretending to serve the female passengers and do some PR ( passenger relation or chatting up the pax)and try to get hand phone numbers etc. Once too often, some of the stewards may not be interested in female passengers. These are the ones who would like to go for macho looking male passengers ( aiyo must explain wan ah....they are ah kuahs la or gays),usually ang mohs.
If you are the ah soh or ah pek type,be rest assured, they would not be casting their eyes upon you. Ooops I forgot to mention here that even if are an ah pek but have lots of $$$ and sit in the first class the girls may eye you too,ok?...just like ex stewardess Beh who got rich by inheriting a bundle on the demise of a rich ah pek pax.
Coming back to the GS,most of them don't fit the above description but only 10% do.
An average GS is hardworking and saves 70% to 80% of their salary so they can buy their future 5 roomed HDB flat and maybe their dream Nissan Sunny.
As for the Malaysian GS, they would probably own 2 houses back home by the time they have been with SIA for 10 years and a Potong Sala Malaysian car.
During their night stop overseas, you would probably spot them wearing diamond stud earrings and tattoos all over their bodies. You would seldom see them eating in restaurants because they rather tar pow their food back to their rooms and eat them in front of the TVs with perhaps a glass of mineral water from you know where or orange juice. Most of the GS do not smoke because cigarettes are expensive and besides, there are no foc cigarettes on board. They do not usually wear expensive and branded clothing.Their gay colleagues would usually be the ones wearing branded clothing, shoes and carry LV bags.
Want to know more about the GS??
'Every penny worth it' for giddy passengers
ABOARD THE AIRBUS A380 (AFP) — "I almost couldn't sleep because of the excitement," Canon Ling said, as flight attendants handed out glasses of champagne in the aisles. "I want to be a part of history."
Ling was one of 455 passengers on the maiden flight of the Airbus superjumbo -- a trip more about caviar than commuting, as giddy passengers turned a long-haul flight on the world's biggest airliner into an airborne party.
A huge round of applause broke out as the giant double-decker sped down the runway in Singapore and took off into aviation history.
Seven hours later, three rounds of ecstatic cheers marked its landing in Sydney.

Honkie stewardesses?
Keh kiang la( singlish for smart aleck) my ex SVP and now have to eat his own words. Don't know whether he is still around or not,the SVP I mean. Maybe still working overseas as SVP Americas or Europe or kena retired already.
The airlines is soooooo desperate for girls la,I know. Very few Singapore girls want to be stewardesses because like that ah soh passenger who pointed to the stewardess on the flight said to her little daughter " study hard otherwise have to work very hard like this auntie". So you see most Singapore girls want to study hard and be lawyers(burok or runaway with clients' $$), doctor quack, engineers ( so MRT underground foundation don't caved in)or go into politics and become ministers ( $100,000+ a month salary)or at least be NMP ( can get allowance of $10k a month and also appear on TV during Parliament)Next time the airlines might even stretch their nets to Timbaktu to catch African gals.
Hey employ old folks and retirees like McDonald did so can save cost and more $$ to please the hungry shareholders. Only thing you need would be more defibrillators on board the air crafts just in case the ah peks and ah mahs get heart attacks.
Don't bullshit la cos employer don't want to employ older workers!!
One thing for sure is very few employers would want to employ older workers or retirees. Take for example, one of my ex colleagues whom the WDA and NTUC said they would help him get a job for the last 2 years had failed miserably. This guy was a retired cabin crew trainer and executive specialising in the hospitality line. He taught SIA cabin crew on how to serve and win over the passengers for the last 30 years and yet no employer wanted him. He did not demand for high pay but said $2,000 a month salary would do. Come on don't kid ourselves because employers are prejudiced against old people.
My suggestion is for the government to make it compusory for companies to employ older workers and retirees.

Four Airlines offered to move to T3
The four airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Jet Airways, Qatar Airways and United Airlines, will join Singapore Airlines in operating from T3.
Terminal 3, currently undergoing tests and trials, opens for flight operations on the 9th of January next year.
CAAS says the decision to offer the four airlines to move their operations to the new terminal was reached after careful and detailed assessments.
It had earlier written to all airlines at Changi Airport to check which of them would be interested to be considered to operate from T3.
Dialogues were also held with airlines to address their questions and concerns about moving their operations.
CAAS says the four new airlines moving their operations to T3 will also enable Changi Airport to spread out usage of the three terminals in a balanced manner
SIA A380 Cabin.
Some of the new cabin products have already made their debut, to global acclaim, on Singapore Airlines new Boeing 777-300ER long-haul aircraft.
Singapore Airlines Suites: is in a league of its own in terms of privacy, luxury and personal space. The new Singapore Airlines Suites have been designed by leading French luxury yacht designer Jean-Jacques Coste of Coste Design and manufactured by Jamco Corporation of Japan and Sicma Aero Seat of France.
The seat in each Singapore Airlines Suite is almost a metre wide (with armrest folded away) and is fully adjustable with a simple-to-use seat control panel to accommodate a variety of sitting and lounging positions.
When the customer is ready to sleep, the cabin crew will make up a full-sized bed with a plush mattress. A lavish duvet and cushions, designed by French fashion house, Givenchy, furnish this comfortable bed.
The bed is designed separately into each Suite, and does not convert from the seat itself. Using separate sleeping and sitting surfaces, the intelligent design of the full flat bed offers customers the choice to rest in their preferred sleeping positions, and also allows them to sit and lounge in bed to read or catch movies on their personal 58 centimetre (23-inch) LCD screen. For couples traveling, the beds in the middle two seats can be converted to an optional double bed. Read the full details and see pictures of the amazing Singapore Airlines Suites.
Business Class: Customers can look forward to experiencing the world’s widest business class seat on the Singapore Airlines A380. Designed by James Park Associates (JPA) of the UK and manufactured for Singapore Airlines by Koito of Japan, the seat has already won acclaim since being fitted to the Airline’s Boeing 777-300ER fleet last year.
Because of the increased cabin width on the A380, the seats will be even larger. Measuring 86 centimetres (34 inches) in width, the Business Class seat can be transformed into a comfortable full-flat bed for a good night’s sleep. Innovative design of the bed enhances sleeping comfort, and also allows customers to lounge in bed to watch TV or eat, as they might at home.
Seats in the Business Class cabin are arranged in a forward facing, four-abreast (1-2-1) configuration that offers all customers direct access to the aisle. The fixed back shell on every seat can be extended to the sides for greater personal privacy.
Other features include a 39-centimetre (15.4-inch) LCD screen fully equipped with USB ports and in-seat power, exclusively designed bedding and dining-ware by Givenchy, enlarged dining table that is height-adjustable, as well as trolley bag stowage under the seat.
Economy Class: The new Singapore Airlines Economy Class seat offers greater comfort through improved seat design and the use of new, lighter and thinner materials. The new seats, designed and built by Weber (USA), provide more personal space, legroom and knee-room. Customers can catch the latest movies on KrisWorld on a larger 27-centimetre (10.6-inch) screen in each seat. A USB port is also available at each seat to allow customers to access the enhanced functionalities on KrisWorld.
Other intelligent features include the non-intrusive reading light installed underneath the seatback screen, personal storage space for spectacles and small personal items, a coat hook, foot rest and in-seat power supply.
A Passenger Corner is specially created for Business Class customers, for them to pick up snacks between meals and socialize during the flight. Also featured on the aircraft are larger, more luxuriously furnished and brighter lavatories in the Business Class and Singapore Airlines Suites cabins.
KrisWorld: The new KrisWorld entertainment system fitted onto the airline’s A380 and B777-300ER fleet, will provide a wide selection of entertainment options, including 100 movies, more than 180 popular TV programmes, a library of 700 music CDs, music channels and many learning applications. Singapore Airlines even offers 3D games on its inflight entertainment system.
Exclusive to Singapore Airlines, a comprehensive suite of office applications is also available on KrisWorld, allowing customers to work during the flight: they can save their work at the end of the trip simply by plugging in a USB thumb drive.
Food & Beverage: New and exciting menus for all three classes on the A380 are created by top chefs from the airline’s International Culinary Panel, including Sam Leong from Singapore, Matt Moran from Australia, Gordon Ramsay from the UK, and Georges Blanc from France.
Wines are selected by the airline’s panel of world-renowned wine experts; Karen MacNeil from the United States, Steven Spurrier from the United Kingdom and Michael Hill-Smith from Australia.
The gourmet experience is further enhanced by the use of exclusive Givenchy-designed service ware in the premium cabins.

Not only Singaporeans are Kiasu as passengers
The richer ones are as bad. If they fly business, they would ask for first class champagne and food like the ex-ceo of a charitable organisation. There was one businessman who travelled first class and "swiped" all the cologne,after-shave lotion etc to be told off by an IFS who has since left SQ and is a successful housing agent. The same businessman was later charged for white collar crime and sentenced to prison.
There was another Singaporean who pointed at the busy stewardess serving them and told her little daughter " better study hard or else you have to work very hard like this auntie(referring to the stewardess)".
One rich first class passenger after reading one or two pages of the newspaper would throw them onto the cabin floor.
At one time, if a passenger were to complain about the service in writing, SIA staff would sent chocolates to appease the complainant. Taking the advantage of the kindness and generosity of the airline, the crew had often heard one passenger telling another to complain about the crew, service or anything SIA so they can get free chocolate ( I wonder if this sort of generosity had affected the bottom line).
Ok thats so much for Singaporeans as passengers on SQ. Now what about Singaporeans on the ground? No better right?
This afternoon, boh tong realising that there was nobody at a supermarket cashier queue decided to pay for his 3 grocery items. While reaching out for his wallet, a lady spoke in English and told boh tong " hey can't you see my basket next to the cashier?...why you just jump queue like that ah?" Apprarently she left her basket of groceries there and went to pick more items somewhere and was furious when BT decided to pay for his items before her.
There was another incidence at a shopping center on a different day. There was this family of 3 linning themselves and blocking the escalator travelling upward. BT in his usual nice soft voice said "excuse me" but fell on deaf ears. As BT was in a hurry, he bowed and squeezed through, much to the annoyance of this big young fellow. This fellow told BT in English " you almost touch my wife".
Frankly, even forced his ugly fat wife onto BT, BT can't have an erection...yucks...BT not boasting but could have touched many a pretty stewardesses and they won't even say a word. Ugly and kiasu Singaporean really sucks and pisses people off.

The Pros and Cons of being a Cabin Crew.
Certainly there are ups and downs being a crew like in any other jobs but there are more ups than the downs.
The "Ups":
- Can work with charming and sometimes bitcy young girls.
- If you are a female, here is your chance to work with handsome young men but some are closet "ah kuahs" otherwise "uncloset" ones with make-ups on their faces.
- Salary not bad leh eg. stewardess gets between $3,500 to $4,500 (basic plus all kinds of allowances), LS,CS and IFS between $4,000 and $6,500 per month.
- Working conditions quite good because can "sleep on the job"( crew rest period stretching from 3 hours upwards depending on how long the flight time is )Nowadays, senior crew beli lenient and even CEO said ok to have fold-down seats in the galleys to rest their backsides. Can also eat aircraft food even from first class and many times can have the rare luxury of washing their hands and faces with Dom Perignom Champagne( balance ones from opened bottles before landing). Aiya so too many more to mention ok!
- Free travel every year for self and family and unlimited discounted travel on SQ flights.
- Heavily subsidised(almost pree) medical and dental consultation from SIA contracted clinics. ( Crew no need to join the sometimes 3 hr. queue up at polyclinics).
- Can get discounts from other airlines, car rentals, shops, hotels, travel agents from all over the world etc etc. ( sorry Geylang "China girls" don't give discounts).
- Can also stay in ***** stars hotels and see the world ( these days night stop too short even got no time to "pan sai")
- Got chance to meet Hollywood stars too ..aiya no need to mention about MediaCorp stars bcos can see them in courts amh over cases like drunk driving,speeding.....
- Have a chance to pose for a picture with MM Lee or SM Goh or even PM Lee lor ( they always willing wan)
- Pretty stewardesses got chance to "kow suah" rich passengers or marry cockpit crew.
- Able to eat the best "char siew and duck" rice from London's Bayswater. For our Muslim colleagues, can have the best "tosai masala" from the streets of Dubai.
- Alamak, too many more to mention lah....hey cabin crew members can help list them down in the comment space below?
The "downs"
- Kena work long hours and beli often have to "walk all the way from Singapore to New York (example) except for the short rest period.
- Kena bully by PITA passengers, sometimes kena abused verbally and physically. They scold your mother and father too, esp. Singaporeans.
- Working for kiasu cabin crew management. But overall top management is ok lah.
- Sometimes bcos of strong influence, may eventually change sex status.( most "ah Kuahs" or gay la stupid, were not gays when they join SQ)So have to jaga your "backside".
- Can pick up bad habits and become addictive gamblers and drinkers.
- Flying into different time zones frequently can cause health problems as well as mental problems like ex-stewardess Beh.
- Got some more lah but don't want to scare the cabin crew wannabes.

Crew robbed at outstations.

There were many cases of our crew being robbed at outstations, places where they night stopped. Here in my blog,I will try to mentioned cases where I do know. Of course, there are crew out there who may know of more cases than I do. Please email me your stories so I may post them here.
- Two male crew, one of them wearing a Rolex watch, was stopped at gunpoint by a man on the street of LA, at around 11pm. The two crew scooted off and the gunman fired three bullets but missed them. These two guys were lucky because according to the police the gunman was slightly drunk.
- One male crew was beaten until he lost consciousness by a group of hooligans at a deserted hotel car park. They took away his valuables, cash and credit cards.
- At LA street,in broad daylight, two off duty stewardesses were punched and robbed off their LV hang bags while waiting for the lights to change.
- A Malay steward was slashed by a robber in his hotel room in London. He lost his cash and a gold chain. The robber pretended he was a hotel staff and wanted to check the mini bar in the steward's room.
- In San Francisco, an ex colleague was robbed by a beautiful woman at gunpoint whom he picked up on the street,in his own hotel room
- At Shepherd Bush,London, one crew was robbed off her Rolex watch and LV hang bag at knife point.
- At Istanbul,Turkey, a co-pilot was beatened unconscious and robbed of his cash and even his uniforms.
- In Rome, a husband and wife crew were gassed in their hotel room while sleeping and the robbers made off with two gold Rolex watches and their cash.
- In Australia, especially at Sydney's Kings Cross,a few crew were relieved off their money and valuables.
- In Frankfurt and other parts of Europe, crew had been pick pocketed many times by gypsy kids and beautiful women.
- In Johannesburg, crew were also robbed at gunpoint.
- In other parts of the world where SQ crew night stopped, there many other cases which I cannot recalled at this moment.
Tips on how to avoid being robbed.
- Do not wear expensive watches or jewelleries.
- Do not carry branded bags like LV, Pravda etc.
- Avoid carrying too much cash.
- Don't show off your branded clothes and shoes while walking on the street.
- Try to move in groups especially in USA,South Africa etc.
- Avoid coming back to hotel rooms late in the night.
- Avoid dark alleys or dimly lit streets.
- Do not pick up women and bring them to your room,no matter how gorgeous or sweet they may be.
- Watch your wallets, hand bags and purse.
- Keep all your valuable items and passports in the hotel safe.(usually they are free of charge for crew)
Even if your observe the above rules, remember you are still not immuned to being robbed or pick pocketed or fleeced by those mostly professional robbers.
Boh Tong has flown for 35 years but never fell victim to the above. Reason?...BT do not look rich or worthwhile to be robbed.

Boh Tong salutes MAS.
What has happened to SIA's cabin crew? Sigh..if only Boh Tong and the CCE (CTs) are still around, perhaps MAS would have to share the award with SIA (Singapore Airlines). hehehe....joking lah..Chew Choon Seng..

Skytrax rated SIA best airlines but MAS has best cabin crew!
"Singapore Airlines is named Airline of the Year, and we congratulate them on this outstanding achievement. In addition to a very strong performance across most survey categories, Singapore Airlines was also winner of another major award, taking the world's Best Business Class title for 2007."
Commenting on the 2007 Airline of the Year Award, Singapore Airlines CEO, Mr Chew Choon Seng, said "We're very grateful to our many customers who have supported us in this poll. Like other awards we receive, this will inspire our people to keep up the good service and do even better in the future."
"The jostle for Airline of the Year title was fairly constant throughout the survey period, and in particular the top 5 positions fluctuated on quite a regular basis - before Singapore Airlines clinched 1st place in the final count. I must in particular highlight the performance of the other top 5 airlines - Thai Airways taking second position (climbing from 4th in 2006), Cathay Pacific (a former winner of the title) ranked in 3rd place, Qatar Airways securing 4th position, and a new entrant to the Top 5 group, with Qantas taking 5th position."
"As with the majority of the survey studies we conduct, the World Airline Survey is primarily focussed on the Quality attributes that different airlines offer - be it in the airport or the onboard environment. Of course, in making a nomination for a Best Airline based on the standards of product and service, the survey participants will pay due regard to the value-for-money equation, but we do not set out to evaluate which airlines might have the largest network or most frequent schedules. It is all about quality, and how the customer rates one airline against another."
The title of Best Cabin staff goes to Malaysia Airlines, who have been a frequent winner of the title in some previous years. The CEO of Malaysia Airlines, Mr Idris Jala, said "I am very proud of our cabin crew and their outstanding performance. Our crew treat our customers as guests in our own home. They are natural, spontaneous, determined and willing to demonstrate the best of Malaysian hospitality."

SIA sent out invitation to under 21 KrisFlyer passengers.
Those under 21 are not supposed to own platinum credit cards . SIA had apologised for the error.
So in all fairness, those under 21 who had received the invitation should not made too much fuss over the matter. Tear and throw the letters of invitation away, that's my suggestion instead of calling MediaCorp 93.8 FM hot line to complain about the matter.
Hey,there are more important matters to complain about ok?...like the crowded buses and MRT in spite of the fare hike, higher cost of living, the influx of foreign workers who took away our jobs etc...
Internet entrepreneur forked out $100,000 for first A380 flight

Julian Hayward poses aboard the first Airbus A380 delivered to Singapore International Airlines in Toulouse yesterday
TOULOUSE: Singapore Airlines yesterday unveiled the mystery bidder who paid more than $100,000 for a seat on the inaugural flight of the Airbus A380 between Singapore and Sydney.
Julian Hayward, a 38-year-old Briton who sold his Internet business in 2000, said he wanted a “little bit of history” by flying in seat 1A in the first class area of the plane on next week’s journey.
“I’m the sort of person who acts first and thinks about it afterwards,” the entrepreneur said as he boarded the world’s biggest passenger jet for a look around yesterday in Toulouse.
Hayward, whose previous adventures include taking a nuclear submarine and flying in a Russian MiG-25 fighter jet, has been travelling for the last five years and is now based in Sydney where he hopes to get Australian citizenship.
Singapore Airlines staged an Internet auction for tickets on the October 25 Singapore-Sydney flight, raising $1.3mn for charity.
Hayward said he planned to devote the rest of his life to charitable causes and was attracted to the auction because part of the money is destined for Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres).
He paid $100,380 for the flight and is to travel with a friend, rather than his partner who was too busy with work. “It’s a bit like flying Concorde. It’s something you should do once,” he said of the A380.
He started his business, called Direct Connection, in 1987 before the internet boom of the late 1990s. He sold at the top of the market in 2000 for an amount he declined to disclose. – AFP
SIA A380 FAQs ( touching down at Terminal 3 @ Changi Airport around 1000hrs GMT or 6:30pm LT. today)

• Why create an aircraft such as the A380?
Why create an aircraft such as the A380?
With air travel expected to continue growing, the A380's ability to carry more passengers and freight will help ease airport congestion by transporting more people and freight without additional aircraft movement.
What will the A380 change for me as a passenger?
The A380 will provide more comfort in every class. This is possible because the A380 offers 50 per cent more floor space but will typically carry only 35 per cent more passengers. Some of the benefits will come as wider seats even for Economy class, some as more spacious aisles and galleys areas to stretch your legs. Regardless of how airlines plan their seats and services, the design of the A380 cabin ensures low noise level throughout and up to 15 per cent more stowage space for your carry-on luggage.
In addition, the cabin will benefit from advanced lighting systems and new standards of in flight entertainment, which will greatly enhance your overall travel experience.
These advances in cabin comfort are particularly important for the long haul routes such as London-Singapore and Los Angeles-Sydney.
The A380 is designed to carry 555 passengers in a typical seating configuration, including an Economy, a Business and a First class. However most airlines have actually indicated that they may have fewer seats than this. In any case, you will not feel crowded thanks to the width of the two separate widebody decks as each will provide more space for everyone.
Will the economy class also benefit from more space or will it be only for the business and first classes?
The main deck of the A380 is wider than that of any commercial jetliner in operation today. Its extra floor space will benefit everyone aboard and will give airlines new opportunities to create innovative cabin arrangement for the greater comfort of all passengers. Regardless of how airlines arrange their seats and services, even the economy class will be wider. High capacity overhead bins and the latest generation of in flight entertainment will also significantly enhance passenger comfort.
Will it take me longer to board and to retrieve my luggage?
The innovative cabin of the A380 includes a wide dual-lane staircase, which will allow you to board the aircraft in the same time as any other large aircraft, using two standard bridges. Many airports are planning direct passenger access to the upper deck of the aircraft.
The use of longer or linked baggage belts carrousels will ensure that your baggage is delivered in times comparable to today's.
Passenger convenience for boarding and de-boarding has been carefully considered early on in our consultation with both the airports, which will accommodate the aircraft and the airlines, which will operate it.
How far and where can I fly with this aircraft?
The A380 is designed for long-haul travel and can fly up to 15,000km /8,000 nm non-stop. It will mostly fly on those routes which see the heaviest concentration of large aircraft flights today. Currently 60 major airports around the world are ready for the A380 or preparing to receive it.
Are the ticket fares going to be more expensive on an A380?
The A380's efficiency and advanced technology will result in a 15-20 per cent lower seat mile costs for the airlines. Therefore, for the same level of comfort and service, on the same route and with the same airline, the ticket fares should be equivalent or possibly less expensive than on any other aircraft.
What impact will a bigger aircraft have on the environment?
The A380 will be an environmentally friendly aircraft, which will produce half as much noise on take-off as its competitor and consume less than 3 litres of fuel per passenger over 100 km, a rate comparable to that of an economical family car. With its greater capacity and unprecedented environmental friendliness, the A380 provides the most economical and socially responsible solution to growing air traffic on key trunk routes.
I want to be one of the first to fly the A380. When will it be operated for the first time and by which airline?
Singapore Airlines will be the first airline in the world to introduce the A380 into commercial service in 2006. The carrier has already launched a 'first to fly A380' logo, which - for maximum effect - has been placed between the aircraft's twin row of windows, one of the new aircraft's most recognisable features.
To be the first to know about Singapore Airlines' A380, visit http://www.a380.singaporeair.com/
To date, Airbus has received 154 orders and commitments from 15 customers. These are (in alphabetical order): Air France, China Southern Airlines, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Federal Express, International Lease Finance Corporation, Korean Air Lines, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas Airways, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways International, UPS and Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Is the A380 the most technologically advanced aircraft to date?
The A380 combines the very latest technologies for materials, systems and industrial processes. It meets the most stringent international certification requirements. The A380 is not only the most spacious civil jetliner ever built, it is also the most advanced - representing a unique technology platform from which all future commercial Airbus aircraft will evolve.
Each new technology developed, tested and adopted for the A380 has been carefully studied to determine its effects over the lifetime of the aircraft, and has been selected for its proven reliability and long-term benefits.

This time I do agree with the Bors.
Some companies or ministry here aren't consumer/public friendly especially towards the elderly. Take for example those pedestrians overhead bridges. I have personally assisted elderly folks with their "barang barang" while they struggled to climb those steep and slippery staircases.
The public buses are always full and during off peaked period would make one wait for as long as 20 to 30 minutes. These companies got the damn cheek to raise fares every now and then ( twice this year).
MRT are also always full even during off peak and the seats are so small that sometime one's buttock would touched the neighbor's. Got the audacity to raise fare too.
For those who drive, the roads and expressway are crowded too. When it pours, some places would be flooded.

Eric Goes to the Beach
In February Eric took a plane to visit his mother in Florida. He was very happy to go. But the plane left Taipei very early. Eric complained to the people at the airport.
“Eleven o’clock is not very early," they said.
On the plane Eric saw a beautiful stewardess. He wanted to talk to her.
“Quiet, old man," she said.
Eric was very sad. He started to drink whisky. Then he drank more and more. He became so sad that he finally decided to burn the plane. He ordered one more glass of whisky and tried to start it on fire with his lighter. The person in the seat in front of Eric leaned back to look at what he was doing, and the burning whisky spilled on Eric’s clothes.
Now Eric was on fire! He was shouting. The stewardess came and hit Eric’s head with a pan. Eric fell down, unconscious. They sprayed him with the fire extinguisher.
Five people worked together to lift Eric back into his seat. He woke up when the plane was landing.
Eric’s mother was happy to see him when he arrived in Florida.
“What’s that smell?" she asked him. “Is that a new cologne?"
“No," Eric said. “It’s from the fire extinguisher."
Eric’s mother cooked a big dinner for him. She made bug salad and rock soup. For the main course she had baked fat mice. And for dessert there was pig oil ice cream.
“You look too thin," she said to Eric. “Here, have some more of these mice."
“Delicious, Mom!" Eric said. “I love baked fat mice."
One of the neighbors was at the dinner too. His name was Paul.
“So, Eric," Paul said. “How is your life in Thailand?"
“I’m not in Thailand,” Eric said. “I’m in Taiwan."
“Oh, Taiwan," Paul said. “Isn’t that in Japan?"
Eric and Paul enjoyed the dinner very much.
The beaches in Florida are famous, and the next day Eric wanted to go swimming. But the beach was around twenty-five miles from the house, and Eric’s mother’s car was at the repair shop. Also there were no buses he could take to get to the beach and the neighbor Paul wouldn’t let Eric drive his Benz.
“I will hitchhike," Eric said to his mother.
“Be careful, son," she said.
Eric walked along the hot road for five hours. Many cars went by, but nobody stopped for him. The sun was very hot, and Eric was sweating and very thirsty.
Finally a fire truck stopped to pick him up.
“Hey! Get in!" the firemen said. “We need some help."
The fire truck took Eric to a large cemetery and Eric helped the firemen put out a big fire there. After the fire was out, Eric asked the firemen: “Now can you take me to the beach?"
The firemen just kicked Eric and left. “We don’t like you," they said.
Eric slept in the cemetery that night. The next morning he got up and hitchhiked for two more hours. At around 11:00 a garbage truck picked him up and took him to the beach.
Eric was very happy to be at the beach. He went into the locker room right away to change into his new swimsuit. He bought the suit the last time he took a trip to Japan.
But Eric’s swimsuit wasn’t really a swimsuit. It was a loincloth for sumo wrestling. It was white and it only covered the front.
Out on the beach Eric saw there were many beautiful women. Some were from Italy, some were from France, and some were from other countries. Eric was very happy to see them. A man told Eric that they were in Florida for a beauty contest.
Eric watched the women swimming and playing volleyball. He wanted to join their party, but he didn’t know how. He decided to pretend to be drowning. Then some girls would come to give him CPR.
Soon Eric was in the water yelling “Help! Help!" Three beautiful girls ran in to pull Eric out. They gave him CPR on the beach for fifteen minutes.
“Thank you!” Eric said to them finally. “You saved me! Where are you from?"
“We’re from Thailand,” said one of the girls with a man’s voice. “We are here in Florida for the Transvestite Beauty Contest."
Eric was very confused. He didn’t understand what kind of beauty contest it was. So he stayed on the beach and drank lemonade with all the girls. He said: “So many beautiful girls! I am so lucky!"
Then they had the swimming race. The race was in the ocean. The race was for the transvestite girls, but they let Eric join because they thought he was very crazy and funny.
The first prize for the race was a Porsche sports car. The second prize was a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Eric was very excited about the race because he knew he could win. He knew he would get the sports car!
There were five swimmers in the race. One girl was from Italy, one was from China, one was from Taiwan, one was from Thailand, and Eric was from America.
The swimmers went into the ocean and swam out to the place where the starting line was. A man in a boat had the pistol to start the race. Thousands of people were watching on the beach.
The man shot the pistol, and the swimmers crossed the starting line. The Taiwanese swimmer was in the lead. The Chinese swimmer was in second. Eric was last.
Then the big shark came. Because Eric was last, the shark saw Eric first. The shark ate one of Eric’s legs, but Eric kept swimming. He really wanted to win the Porsche!
The shark saw it was a swimming race. So after the shark ate Eric’s leg, it decided to swim to the finish line. It passed all the swimmers and won the race. The Taiwanese swimmer came in second.
They gave the Porsche to the shark. The shark was very happy and it put on some sunglasses and drove away in the new car. The Taiwanese swimmer got the Harley Davidson motorcycle. Eric lost the race, and the doctors had to help him with his leg.
“The race wasn’t fair!" Eric said. “The shark cheated. We have to race again."
The doctors thought Eric was very foolish.
“Stop moving!" they said. “We are trying to fix your leg."
Eric had some crutches and hitchhiked back to his mother’s house. Three days later he arrived at the door.
“Where is your leg?" Eric’s mother said.
“There was a swimming race, and a shark cheated,” Eric said.
Eric’s mother laughed.
“You are a very strange son," she said. “But I still love you. Baked fat mice for dinner tonight!"
“Oh, great!” Eric said. “Thanks, Mom!"
Four days later Eric flew back to Taiwan. He saw the same beautiful stewardess on the airplane. But when she saw Eric, she quickly brought him a whisky with sleeping pills in it. Eric slept until the plane landed in Taipei.

JAL Flight 123,the deadliest single-aircraft disaster in history,
All 15 crew members and 505 out of 509 passengers died: a total of 520 deaths. It remains the deadliest single-aircraft disaster in history, and the second-worst aviation accident of all time, after the Tenerife disaster (not counting ground victims).
The four female survivors were seated towards the rear of the plane: Yumi Ochiai, an off-duty JAL flight attendant, age 25, who was jammed between a number of seats; Hiroko Yoshizaki, a 34-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter Mikiko Yoshizaki, who were trapped in an intact section of the fuselage; and a 12-year-old girl, Keiko Kawakami, who was found wedged between branches in a tree. Among the dead was the famous singer Kyu Sakamoto.

"The Sky Is Crazy - Tales from a trolley dolly" by Yvonne Lee
Flight crews go thru alot of stress. Whereas cabin crews just serves coffee or tea. Should cabin crews be paid the salary they're getting now or less?
Best Answer - Chosen by Voters
No offence dude.... but never underestimate a cabin crew's job.... I had a misconception on cabin crew's job scope like you too until i read a book about the life of a flight attendent.... its alot more challenging and difficult than wat most people think.....
During flight, they have alot more job than serving coffee or tea.... for example,
-they have to know about the destination they are heading to...
-they have to pacify crying babies....
-they have to make sure the well behaviour of passengers ( there are alot of troublesome passengers ) ,
-they have to perform emergency rescue should there be any medical emergencies onboard ( CPR , and the thing u do when someone chokes... don't know what its called )..
-they have to make sure the safety of passengers, and keep the captain posted on the situation of the cabins...
-they are the "fire rescuers" if there is a fire..
-they have to handle rude and troublesome politely
-they have to be a good listener ( when passengers keep complaining about everything... )
-they have to make sure they look good always.... ( company policy )
- Female flight attendents have to handle those perverts politely all the time...
-They have to smile all the time... even when they do not feel like smiling.... imagine hearing loads and loads of complaints and grumbles almost everyday and yet u have to keep smiling.... now, that's what i call challenging!! not many can do so!!
No doubt, a flight crew's job is challenging and stressful.... but hey! doesn't the job scope up there make u think that cabin crews' job is as challenging as flight crews' ? or even more stressful than their's..
therefore, i adamantly think that cabin crews are paid just fine... their salaries suit their responsibilities pefectly....
I recommend this book "The Sky Is Crazy - Tales from a trolley dolly" by Yvonne Lee to anyone who which to have a better understanding on a flight attendent's job....
i'm a pilot wannabe
You obviously don't know what cabin crew do if you think they just serve coffee and tea. On long flights they are relatively free but on short/medium sectors they can work pretty hard. Do you know what their salary is?? It's already crap dude.

The one that got away.
Tony an insurance agent was Lian's boyfriend. He had cautioned Lian not to go out with any male crew or passenger during her night stops. Tony was a very jealous type but then which boyfriend wouldn't. He had threatened Lian if he ever heard that she went with any male he would kill her. Lian knew better than to doubt Tony's threat.
Lian had a difficult time warding off proposal of marriages, dates, gifts, cash etc from her male passengers. She did not want to hurt or disappoint Tony her beloved boyfriend. So during her night stops,no matter how bored she might be she would mixed around only with the girls.
During one Christmas eve (can't remember which year), the crew decided to have a party during their 3 day night stop in Auckland.
Lian being in a festive mood totally forgot about her boyfriend's advice not to party or go out with any man.
That night in Auckland, the crew party the whole night and by the wee hour of the morning,Lian who had a whale of a time was pissed with too much alcohol. She wanted to go back to her room but could not walked steadily. Her chief steward volunteered to escort her back to her room.
Once inside the room, the chief steward who had been fantasising having sex with her on many occasions, seized this golden opportunity and stripped her naked and the rest was history.
Lian got up in the afternoon with a heavy hangover and instinctively realised she had been FBI chief steward early that morning when he supposedly escorted her back to her room.
She broke down and cried and immediately rang her gay supervisor up and confided in him. Lian begged him not to report the matter to the company because she did not want her boyfriend to know about the rape incidence.
The supervisor on arrival at Singapore went to see the manager in charge the next day and told him about Lian's case. Since Lian did not want to press charges against the CS, the case was closed with the manager verbally warning that CS.
To this day Tony,Lian's boyfriend (now husband) does not know his wife was FBI in Auckland.

Why did such a dumb thing?
We do not know the reason or reasons for his dumb pranks. Perhaps too much flying or maybe too little so the devil started to work on his idle workshop mind. But whatever the reason or reasons,it is wrong and childish to resort to such pranks. Didn't the pilot knows that these fast food outlets record each and every phone orders?
I remember a case some time ago when a steward kept harassing a stewardess over the phone. He did not know that there was such a thing as a "caller display" whereby the phone would record the numbers of most incoming calls. The stewardess reported the case to the police and the culprit was apprehended.
Long periods of flying like the crew does can make one a little cranky. Look at ex stewardess Beh, who after flying for ten years is now having some sorts of mental problem. She told in her blog she has panic or anxiety disorder. She was also a lesbian and she occasionally has "ideas of grandeur or fantasy". Having "ideas of grandeur" to me sounds like a GPI ( general paralysis of the insane)patient. Poor girl,I hope she is better now.
Frequent flying into different time zone can also take a toll on a person's mental and physical health. Take for example, a few inflight supervisors have died of heart problems, cancer etc at an early age...David at 52 years old,Kenneth at 53,Mahendran at 62 (the most recent),not counting the younger colleagues who had also died of various illnesses.
Please note that I am in no way trying to discourage people from becoming a crew. There are many crew who are still healthy and fit. I believe one can circumvent the ill effects of flying by exercising, having sufficient rest between flights and eating healthily.
Coming back to the pilot's case,we have yet to establish the reason or reasons for him committing such silly acts. We would have to wait for the case to be presented in the court of law and hear what his attorney has to say.

Passengers said "Arigato"
Besides complaining about bad service, there are a few passengers who will write to the company when they received good service from the crew.
Below are a few I've decided to post in my blog.
- Mr. Lam (not real name) was a disabled passenger who was paralysed from his waist down. During the flight, he emptied his bowels in his pants. The cabin crew took great pains in cleaning him up.They also devoted a lot of their time taking great care of him even though they had a plane load of passengers. Another passenger was touched by the crew's kind gesture and complimented the crew by writing to SIA. The crew were awarded the MD's Award for outstanding service for that particular year.
- Mrs. Torino broke her shoe heels on the flight. She didn't have another pair of shoes with her and it looked like she had to walk barefooted when she arrived at Changi Airport. To her surprise, a stewardess offered Mrs. Torino her own pair of shoes. Mrs Torino wrote to SIA commending the stewardess.
- An ex-colleague of mine put his hand into the toilet bowl to fish out a 2 carat diamond ring for Mrs. Surino who had earlier dropped it. This ex-colleague was commended by the company but later on was pressured to retire because of the "bald headed nun" case.
- Another ex-colleague managed to calm down an unhappy passenger on the flight because they could not locate his kosher meal and later on brought this passenger on a tour of Singapore, was commended by the company. He left the airlines a few years later and despite his plea for free tickets was turned down. He is now a PPS passenger on SQ and has a string of flourishing restaurants here and abroad.
- A passenger who was so grateful to the inflight supervisor for upgrading her to the first class wrote to thank SIA for that generous gesture, got the over zealous supervisor into hot soup.

Ex SIA Stewardess Jailed for Kicking Policeman
If one were to know her background, one would understand the reasons for Kat being such a spoilt brat.
Before joining SIA,Kat used to have a boyfriend by the name of Eric. He was a professional horse punter, making as much as $1 million a weekend, on horse racing and this was in the 1980s.
Kat was treated like a celebrity wherever she went with Eric.
The horse racing fraternity respected Eric, including the underworld who depended on his horse tips.
Those who were closely associated with Eric prospered, including his girlfriend,Kat.
Eric showered Kat with cash,Rolex watches, diamond rings, cars and beautiful apartments.
The only thing lacking, as far as Kat was concerned, was time spent with Eric. He was always busy with his 'business' associates and spent long hours away from Kat.
He would often travelled to Malaysia to arrange and plan his oncoming weekend races during the weekdays.
On weekends, he would be extremely busy punting on horses with his syndicate colleagues.
Kat was a teenager at the time she was with Eric. She, being young, loved dancing, bowling, karaoke, fashion and all the things a teenager would
loved doing.
Kat was a very demanding person and often,Eric would give in to her.
She would very frequently disrupt Eric's business schedule by nagging him into taking her on holidays overseas.
Kat's frequent nagging and fights with Eric eventually cost him his downfall.
Eric began losing control over his syndicate and suffered big losses at races.
As expected, Eric lost everything that he had, including Kat.
Kat broke off with Eric and joined SIA as a flight stewardess. She worked hard and earned her promotion as a leading stewardess in less than five years.
During her flying days, Kat gambled high stakes at casinos overseas. She loved Blackjacks and Baccarat.
Kat would wager anything from US$1,000 to $50,000 per bet, over 10 to 24 hours at a stretch at casinos in London, Melbourne,Sydney and Las Vegas.
Kat was a high roller like Suwah.
Whenever, Kat night stopped in LA,she would take the South West 45 minutes flight to Las Vegas and stayed at Caesar's Palace. There ,she would gambled until the night before her flight back to Tokyo.
Her turnover at the gambling table per night would easily be around US$500,000.
At the end of her flying contract with SIA, she joined a security company in Singapore as a reminsier.
Kat brought in multi millionaire clients to the company. They were mostly the Datoks and Tan Sris from Malaysia and they punted real big ,often to the tune of ten of millions of dollars.
When the financial crisis hit Asia in the mid 1990s, most of Kat's wealthy clients went bankrupt.
Kat was stuck with huge debts and was sacked by her company.
That was,it seems the last we would have heard of Kat.
It wasn't long before I read in the newspaper that Kat had a big fight with her boyfriend.
The police was called in to settle the domestic quarrel.
Unfortunately, Kat was so mad with the police interference that she kicked and hit a police officer.
Kat was charged with causing hurt to a police officer and was sent to prison.
At the time of serving her sentence,Kat gave birth to a baby whose father is anyone guess.

Las Vegas.

The stop in Vegas was 3 days and we flew from in from HKG. The sectors were SIN/HKG/LAS vv using the B777.
The hotel which the cabin crew stay was mmmmmm....I can't remember cos it was a unfashionable hotel away from the Las Vegas Strip. The reason the crew was accommodated away from the Strip was to discourage the crew from gambling. Had it been MGM Grand or the Venetian or the Belagio,it would be too convenient for the crew to gamble at the downstairs ground floor casino. This reason was crap cos no matter how far the gambling crew were accommodated, they would still take the shuttle bus to Downtown or the Strip to gamble.
Ah, no point bitching about the accommdation cos it's over and SQ does not fly to Vegas anymore.
The Venetian,The Alladdin,Belagio etc were classic hotels and I think the rooms would have cost a "bomb",perhaps the average of US$400 a night in the standard room.
Although Vegas was an exciting place to be at,the cost could be damaging if one were to gamble. No way could one make money in the long run if one were to gamble at the casinos.
My crew were mostly non gamblers and so we went to see "shows" and dined in the beautiful resturaunts in hotels like New York2, MGM grand etc.
After my trip to Vegas, SIA stopped flying there.
Honolulu,Hawaii and Las Vegas were two of the best......

It has been at least 18 years since SIA had stopped flying to Honolulu. The reason was economic, just like the Las Vegas flight which SIA had ceased to operate about 5 years ago.
When we were stopping in HNL ( Honolulu),the company housed us in the luxurious Ala Mona Hotel. Ala Moana Hotel is centrally located between downtown Honolulu and Waikiki, next to the world famous Ala Moana Shopping Center (over 240 stores) and adjacent to the huge Ala Moana Beach Park with picnic areas, wide beaches, tennis courts and jogging as well as other sea sports.
The cabin crew used to stopped at HNL for 2 to 3 days on the flight from SIN/HKG and to SFO vv.
Almost all the crew looked forward to this flight pattern as it was the most relaxing and fun station to be at.
I always remember the yummy Hawaian oxtail soup and the huge breakfast we used to eat at the YMCA,opposite the Ala Mona. These two menu were amongst the crew's favorite.
The shopping was great as well as the beautiful beach directly opposite the hotel.

Lucy in the sea.
I don't want to dramatize the whole story but here is the gist of it:
- Stewardess Lucy was having an affair with the IFS who was a married man.
- To make matter worse, besides not wanting to leave his family for Lucy, the IFS was flirting around with Lucy's flatmate,Molly.
- When the affair between the IFS and Molly was discovered by Lucy, there was a big fight between Lucy and her lover.
- Not long after, Lucy's body was found floating in the sea off Changi beach.
- The rumour was Lucy had committed suicide.
- The coroner recorded this as an "open verdict" case.

Jailed them man!
In the past, there were unreported cases of passengers abusing and beating up cabin crew for the slightest reasons.
Many times, these violent passengers got away and when they were hauled up to the court, they would settled with their victims by compensating a few bucks or at worst paid a fine.
These passengers were usually rich people and monetary settlement or a fine won't hurt them. Jailing them would be a deterrent. If they caused grievous hurt, they should be canned.
One thing I've observed, the same passengers would not dare to even raise their voices against the western airlines F/A let alone abuse or beat them up.
