ALPA-S vs SIASU (cabin crew branch only ah)

Look at Alpa-S the pilots' union and compare to its cabin crew counterpart. I am not saying SIASU (Singapore Airlines Staff Union)is not a good union,in fact it was and will always be a good union.
What I am saying here is why is there so much infighting amongst the cabin crew, each smearing and back stabbing one another.
The pilots are more united to face the management compared to cc. That could be the main reason Alpa-S could not be easily cowed. Alpa-S could even afford to donate to the Home Nuring Foundation a sum of $50,100 to help the poor in this economic downturn.
I still remember the time in the 1980s when a few of their members were sacked because of their industrial actions. The whole exco were hauled up by PM Lee Kuan Yew to the Istana and chastised.
The members themselves raised huge sum of money and helped those sacked pilots.Eventually through the goodwill of both sides, the sacked pilots were reinstated.
The cabin crew, through the hundreds of comments in my blog (had since been deleted by me)did nothing constructive but criticised and smeared the current cc union reps as well as its chief Alan Tan.
Alan's supporters are no angels either. They blamed Eddy Chew the ousted union chief for all sorts of things. Not only that but called Eddy and his fellow unionists all kinds of names.
Come lah cabin crew get united with Alan & team and leave your personal agenda/grudges aside and unite to form a formidable front to face the management (also got KNN asses too).
Let me see you buggers write some nice comments here about one another and I will publish them...ok?(outsiders who are not crew pls 'smoke cigar')..dat means outsiders don't comments la stupid!

Do cabin crew really need a union. In fact I feel that I waste about 60-70 dollars a year just to get a stupid gift and pay the branch leader whoever they are a solid 3000$ for reiterating company's policy. I feel that so far under Mr. Tan Pee Teck we had been treated fairly so I think its about time I'll quit the union and atart being proactive in company's activities. Too much polititics and below belt bad mouthing in the union. Hope Alan will take heed and improve the level of competency in his guys.

Mr. Tan may be good to u all but ur future boss may be an ass so having a union is good.Take it from me who had worked under some nasty asses.

The concept of Unionism is good. Unfortunately its the people who decide to use their position in the Union to 'pamper" themselves. Whatever organization, its the people that make it effective and successful. As long as the "good" crew don't step forward to serve, the same old faces will linger around regardless of who is in power, Alan or otherwise. As long as they are around it'll be "same shit, different day".

The level of 'bitching' frighten the good ones to step up. I spoke to a very good IFS recently(a former WL)of his reluctance to come forward and help us. He writes well, speaks well and by his looks I believe rich enough to compromise on his flights but he said he was afraid of Alan's or Eddie's henchmen back stabbing and harassment like what they did to each other(which includes profanities) in this blog before it was moderated. I have to agree with him that people who indulge in Cabin Crew union politics are not gentlemen but sweet talking thugs. Its time for CABIN CREW SIASU to reinvent themselves with new faces.

For the people who complained about their monthly contribution to the union,do you know where your money goes to.25% of your money goes to NTUC,leaving $6.75 to the union.Take this money multiple by 35yrs assuming thats the nos. of yrs you pay,it $2362.50.After you retired SIASU will pay you $10000,retirement fund.So you only pay $1362.50 which is is $3.24 month.and the welfare claims of $70 if your next of kin passed away, the educational funds that SIASU gave away to help the low wage staff($62,000),members insured under SLF,$5000 upon natural death,$30,000 in the case of accident,$10,000 INSURED UNDER gift plus and not forgetting the stupid gift.

In his manifesto,Alan was willing to give up his allownces to employ a clerk to run SIASU office in the terminal, thats sacrifice. How many ex.union president is willing to do that, not flying and not taking the allowances. The office is now open and crew able to to seek help.

Thank you wise guy for the info. No malice intended here. Just upset at the politicking that's happening at the moment. Every flight that I go with a union rep there are no positivities, just running down of people or defensiveness when questions are asked pertaining to less than satisfactory service provided(union rep/crew relations). Obviously for us the ignorant crew saw a lack of intelligence among our reps(again, present and past).

Whoever is the WL. Whats there to be afraid if you have nothing for ppl to talk about. Eddie and Alan are only crew. If they are gangster you call 999. So, whats there to be afraid of unless.....
Many crew talk only.

It is true in all Charity Organisations too. Very difficult to get Good People to come forward and sacrifice whatever they got for the betterment of their own lots. It is easier to stand on the sideline and egged others to come forward.Good People would rather take care of themselves and family instead of being called names and being subject to scrutiny.

Again rough house tactics. Will we ever have positive, constructive communication. I guess its people like these that chased away the decent volunteers. And they do these to protect their territory and hope to stay as long as possible so as not to have competition whether within or outside. Good luck cabin crew.

Did he really forgo his allowances. If he did, hats off to him but if just a political gimmick then he is no different to certain Chew, all talk.

Why when people praised someone they must be opposing you. Tan Pee Teck is a good and decent man. Period. No agenda here. He takes care of cabin crew better than the union. Period. No agenda here. There are good people in the present union eg Cynthia, Chris, Alan Tan, Imraan, Morgan, Ivor, Daniel. Period. No agenda here.

I totally agree with Bohtong that CC need to be united as the Tech Crew. Those who are able to improve the life of their lot shld come 4wd & sacrifice their time & $$$.Those who are not able to make sacrifice shld support those who can make the sacrifice. It is very sad in CC that those who are not willing to come 4wd & make the sacrifrice, bad mouth & judgemental on those who are willing to come 4wd & make sacrifices.CC shld learn frm TC.

the above comment hit 'bulls-eye' & very true. cabin crew r all childish & hv full of jealousy in their heart.the more older & senior they are the more jealousy they hv & the more bad intent they harbour.they will nvr b like the cockpit crew who r united & support their lot.thats why d cockpit crew got more perks & treated better.d day cc get united will b 'D' day as cc always tink dat dey knw all especially those senior one who hv lots & lots of baggages & always critical of others wifout looking @ themselves.

I think it is not fair to comment about the senior CC without examining their make-up. All the senior crew are 'O' level holders & their lives had all along revolve on serving. So their mindsets are basically mundane & shallow. I think once these 'buggers' leave the airline, the junior, like me, will be united as we will not be influence & be 'poisoned' by their negativity as we do not have their baggages to lug around. On most of my flights, I just listen to their ranting & their negativity as I know deep down that those who rant the most are those who are balless & they won't help me if I get into problems. Time will tell whether CC will be united & amongst my peers I think we will be once the rejuvenation of CC is complete. It will probably take 06 yrs.

So u know, in anything, there r die-hard fans.Same in Cabin Crew.No matter what may come, these fans will nvr change their mind, allegiance. In CC,MAJORITY of the crew go around quietly excelling in performing their duties & helping their own colleques. The MINORITY,same as those in here, r the one who r like an empty can, making noises but got no wiillingness to commit & take resposibility to be a change agent. They live as bystanders & just shout aloud. These same people are frustrated with everthing, be it govt, company, union, etc. Asking them for solution to a problem, they just shrug their shoulder. It is very difficult to change their mindset & to ask them to be participative as they fear responsibility. They just have the passion to make critical comment by the sideline. Thank God, these people are a few in CC & a dying breed. Hopefully, CC get rid of them ASAP as they r not good for the system as they are a virus infecting all the good people in CC.

Totally spot on but the rest esp the frogs that jumps from Eddy sinking ship are rubbish and still are. NO no but not Allan T, Lawrence C and Alex H. They quit Eddie because they are fed-up with some of his cronies. I will be really worried for Allan when Mr. Choudary, Mr. Hardy retire because these are solid sober men who gives sound advice to the President. They feels the ground and have a lot of support for their honesty and integrity. But can't say much about the rest of the jumpers.

I wish for the day when there is no one who is willing to come forward to serve in the Union & hope that there will be a void. Then we can really understand...I hope I can see whilst I am still in CC. With me having a higher education, it really does not matter whether we have a union or not as I can ply my expertise somewhere else. I urge Alan & his team to resign enmass & I think it is not worth the sacrifice that Alan & team had committed for bunch of ungratefuls. The time spend in helping CC can be used to earn more $$$. My take is that Alan & team are a bunch of stupidos who sacrifice much for people they don't even know. I really dont believe in Unionism. I believe that you have yourself - upgrade, upgrade, follow what the employer ask & dont fret, work hard, work hard..U sure can survive.

Vote for Alan Tan & Heart Party in the next coming election. They have work hard tirelessly & done well for cabin crew ever since they took office. Nothing is for free & without passion, they would have run out of steam by now. No other past unions have come close to the present team where committment & dedication are concerned. Not forgetting Alan & his team have the guts, full of integrity & transparency to lead all of us for the next term..

That is a lot of 'bitching' you folks are dishing up on this site.

As a passenger, it makes me wonder if you have time to think about how serving those who fill the seats on SQ aircrafts can be improved ?

Better service = more passengers = more revenue for SQ.

Could this lead to better conditions for SQ crew members ?
