Molest during nightstop again?

They gathered in the crew room in the hotel for a chit chat and togoh (drinking) session. Some hotels where the crew n/s (nite stop) would provide a common room for the crew to hold meetings/briefings etc.
This particular room didn't have a toilet. There was a stewardess who wanted to use a toilet was offered by her c/s (chief steward) to use his room toilet which was near the crew room.
When she entered or had just finished wee wee,it was alleged the c/s grabbed her and started to kiss and fondled her. She was too shocked to scream or shout and stood there not knowing what to do. It was also alledged our friend became more chio or gatal (horny)and went further to strip her.
Aiya sometime these male crew think they are Tom Cruise or Brat Pit types and stewardesses will fall at their feet begging them to screw them. When they are being reported for molest or raped then they would come down to earth and realised that they more like beasts. Stupid moron get sack for cheap thrill and caused misery to their families.
Alamak go to Geylang la and pay $100 and get sexy voluptuous China girls who would do anything you asked them to do ( lots of competition in Geylang mah because there are Thai gals, Vietnamese gals, Malaysian and multi national gals there too...want Russian,Croatian and Eastern European with blond hair go to Orchard Rd).
This c/s would be lucky if SQ does not turn him to the police. He would be caned if found guilty of molest or rape. Probably SQ would be lenient and just sack him if found guilty.
Frankly I hope the c/s would not be found guilty during the disciplinary hearing cos I really really pity his innocent family.

Ya, you are so right! Thats way the standard in SQ has dropped! cos you work like robots... SOPs, nothing more, nothing less.... wtf?! you shouldn't be in the service industry in the first place! Maybe you should just go serve on budget airlines, but then again, i reckon the cc in budget airlines has better service standard than YOU!

New Gen Kid...sometimes I feel u are right in what u said but in the service industry we can't be like that....aiya i dun wanna comment anymore la..but surely if i am a pax on ur flt i will be sad.

Disappointed said...

New Gen Kid may have some truth in his/her words, however he/she is just being a typical Singaporean working, follow the books to prevent any trouble, which in turn, service becomes robotic.

When you board a Singapore Airlines flight, you know what you are going to get and what the crew is going to say. There is never an element of surprise, while some may argue consistency, but where is the initiative touch to service?

SIA crew, especially the newer crew, they shout crew rights and all, when you see them at the airport... I only see one look, it is not a warm and sincere smile but arrogance on their faces.

Try an experiment, try smiling to a SIA Cabin Crew in the airport, chances are, you will never get a respond. Whether you are on or off duty, as long as you are in uniform, people identify you as a crew. Well, you can only blame the successful marketing campaign years ago, the image of a cabin crew smiling at you...yes, it WAS a great way to fly.

I'm not even going to start with the technical crew. I will go on forever!

BT I feel that us feeling sorry for the CS is misplaced. What if the molested victim is our sister, daughter etc? These are "opportunity costs" undertaken by the CS when he molest. If he gets away, he gains a free f**k. If reported he get into trouble. In life nothing is for free.

"As for many of us "junior" crew, its just work.

Smile and you are accused of being 'Tih Kor'
Do not smile and you are 'stuck up'

Damn if you do and damn if you dont"

Then just smile! Is it so difficult to do so? My question now, why join in the first place if you knew this a lose - lose situation for you "junior crew"? Why countdown the months? Quit now if you have the gut... Yes I am daring you. QUIT NOW!

Kids these days.... Tsk tsk...

Before you QUIT, go and whack those TOP 10 crew jialat jialat, give it to them!! I really hope company retrenches those old and lazy senior crew who do nothing.. CS or IFS BIG F**K?? Go outside at the most be taxi driver...Wake up all you bloody SENIOR crew!

Yes agree. CS & IFS big F**K. who they think they are.Bigshot is it? No wonder Coy always say they are wrong and whack them jialat jialat when there is complaint. Ther beli deserved it.We are all earning a living & it is onli a job. We ask all those CS & IFS just leave us alone. No need to guide us or tell us what to do.We can think as we better than them.We are more schooled and intelligent.Look at our academic qualification & theirs. Who is superior?? Most of them oni hv 'O' level.Somemore want to show off. Coy is with us as their qualification is also the same as us.Graduates.So we are on the same wavelength.Like SVP say, we are in-sync with the Mgt as we are both graduates grades.

Anonymous said...

Sure, I understand statistics, costing and budget.
Studied all that at uni.
But am not sure about having same wavelength with management.
Seems like people skills is poorly lacking here, which should be the key feature of a service provider.

Having new and unseasoned front line employee can be liability. That is where the "seniors" or rank come into play.
There seems to be lack of support for the senior ranks, and their judgement is questioned.

This appears because there are already guidelines and SOPs that addresses all possible scenarios.
No room to exercise decisions.

So, what is the point of having promotions? I recall another post that said that "you are promoted so that blame can be assigned to you"!! Seems to have some truth there!

I suppose, then, non-ranking crew do not wish to get promoted?

How does the management decide on the required qualities of a LSS or CS or IFS, if at the end of the day, their duties are merely to follow the book?

Executive powers must be seen to be supported.
Otherwise, invert the pyramid and remove ranks.

The current climate is caustic.

With regards to the comments pertaining to educational qualifications, personally i feel that having qualifications doesn't mean that u a better person or is superior to others in anyway...(In case if you're wondering i am a graduate as well and i have been with SQ for nearly 15 years...)

Qualifications is just another piece of paper....

However sometimes i wonder why management extend people like Prisilla Seetoh? She's so well known for being paranoid on flights about safety, making cabin crew's life miserable onboard....

Recently she came back from holiday in China as a passenger, she told the LSS to open up a passenger's blanket to stow the pax's handbag, as the pax was hiding her handbag underneath it...

Even captains are afraid to fly with her.... knowing that if they switch on the seat belt sign she'll charge down to EY to stop the service....

She is totally lacking in service finesse and is often rude to pax! Why is she extended? I wonder....Sigh...

Time flies! It seems like it is time for those ( Siow ) Ifss and Css to go .. Really dont understand why they like to make ppl´s life miserable.

We all are just working for SQ but they seem to " own" SQ ,alamak ! Extended also never mind lah, another year or 2 also have to go .Once they leave SQ they are really NOTHING in outside world ,come on look at all the "bitchy" and "siow on" senior crew where do they landed with eventually?? BT u should know better!

Is this about the old new of the IFS or a latest latest news? Anyway heard that the IFS is coming back as a LS.

"She is totally lacking in service finesse..." This is what the management wants!! quality that is perfect!.. follows the rules like a bloodhound.
Safety is paramount. ( SQ 006 remember?)
Management MUST be seen supporting this... and now they have no choice but to recognise it.
Learn her ways.. it is what the boss wants... follow the book.
Union also cant stand in the way.

Ya lor. Thses Senior crew shld not make life miserable as they also earning a living. Just leave US alon la.No need to tell us wat to do.There is the manual and the book. We shld learn to make our job easier la.If can cut the process of our work, we shld cut la.No need to give paxs elaborate service as we are here for SAFETY.

So sad to see Junior crew making such comments above. Hope you'll never come on my flight and pull down the SQ standard.

How many IFS actually become taxi driver? If they had, it's a respectable job. Most do plan for their retirement and not as "pathetic" as what you think.

But I do agree with you that there are some IFS which we find difficult to work with. Which Co. don't? Learn how to work with them and that's part of people management...

It is indeed true, safety is very important. However, you cannot forget the other aspects of a cabin crew. Excellent service and hardware pull SIA away from the other carriers. You need to understand that in this volatile market, you need to surpass the competition. Junior Crew, you fail to see far.

You place yourself in a passenger's position, if you are traveling on a premium airline, what kind of service do you expect?

Stop and think for a moment. Do not be defensive. Just think how would you like to be treated, then you ask yourself whether you are living up to your own standards.

As Strawberry Generation is starting to penetrate the workforce, many are in culture shock. Yes, working life is tough. The SIA Culture is very much unknown to the Strawberry Gen. Pampered, spoiled and utterly immature, the Top Ten IFS/S or CS/S are what many cannot swallow down. With their pride and ego smashed, juniors use the excuse of "it is just a job" and "safety" as excuses for their appalling service.

Please remember your job is to render EXCELLENT service as well as safety, DARLINGsss! Those standards once achieved by those TOP TEN crew... Why are the junior crew so terrified of the senior crew? Because the junior crew know for themselves that THEY can never achieve those standards.

This new era of people at work is unique. We live in an abbreviated world symbolised by text messages that uses short forms and icons.
A quick, lets get this over and done with attitude, with little thought on consequences.
Targets, timelines, goals are ever more important and the ability to meet them all is highly valued.

The people that work as attendants come from the very same source that
work in management. Same age group, same brand of thought.
Each having individual ideals.

Yet, there are some who belong to another era. Those who are above 45yrs old, who are flying and some who are on the ground. Both clinging on for dear life, caught in the twilight zone. For them, the search for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow continues.
They can smell it, but they cannot touch or see it. They can only plod on.

The rest have no memories, no allegiance, no common bond. Their ideal is to go as far as their hard disk can hold. If it fails, just get another. Whats the big deal?

The future is for the making.
The making is now.. and for the moment, its just go as far as the pre-paid card will take.

This is the new era.. nothing needs to be done. just ride it.

No need to achieve standards lah. All not valued.Who cares about standard. After all, contract not re-new, extension not given. Why are you talking cock?Just do minimum, take the ride & when opportunity comes, pack the bags & go.Its a win-win situation.CC mgt got their manpower & we the junior just a stepping stone towards greener pasture.

Opportunities are always there.
Cabin crew sees it all the time, but they will not seize it.

Flying is an insulated world.

After 3-5 years, its all very narcotic.. Hilton hotel, sleep late, wake up late.. laze around. Meet for lunch, go shopping.. its natural.

And your employer knows you are addicted.

You get upset and complain about roster, $$ and leave quotas... but you will NEVER leave. Its a wonderful lifestyle. No reports to do and its just one roster to another.. and also all the gossip too! Some people paint a picture of endless work when you take on a job outside of flying... isn't that what you are doing too? especially on day flights to Australia, Europe?
Yeah, sure, rest period?

Because of that, you will NEVER leave.

Very true.I hv friends who are driving taxi for 20 yrs & they say they are their own boss. They never leave.I have friends who are managers for 25 years.Everyday being ridicule by his boss, bring back his work, no family life, no weekends but he still never leave his job. All are idiots. They say their jobs put food on the table.

To those 'mightier than thou' young graduate crew,if you think you can do better outside of CC,go ahead, make our day and leave.Leave to slog in the REAL world you think is so so rosy for you.The ONLY and it's a fact that you are a graduate is because it was the Singapore Government's Vision to make a big big chunk of Singaporeans a grad.During the education system of my time, truly the creme de la creme gets admission to the ONE and Only Singapore University.Today any Tom,Dick And Mary with enough decent grade will gain admission to the many Unis Singapore have built.Yes,I say built, because they are not interested in the substance of graduates they produce, just the numbers. In the end,a grad will just be like any man/woman in the street. In fact it is just like having an O/A level holder in the streets 25 years ago.No biggy! So to those grads who thinks,(borrowing from a Radiohead Song here),I am so Special,So F#@*ing Special.......WAKE UP TO REALITY! By the way,I got my degree later in life, courtesy of my proud flying career. It's not the best job in the world, but it IS a good job.

Jnr Crew said...

Hello OldChiefy.Don't leave in the old world lah.Things have change today. How you manage the crew long time ago does not apply now lah. Grow up & don't be a dinosaur lah.You got a degree but your age does not allow you to leave and get another job as you are comfortable in your comfort zone.As for us, we are young and mobile.Look at the American Airlines. They really know what their duties are.SAFETY, SAFETY. Do the airlines lost $$$. No lah, they make $$$ and also they are still around. So why fret about service or blame the jnr crew. Like someone say, go to work, do what is ask from the book so it be CONSISTENT, and go home lah. End of month, take our $$$$.

OldChiefy said...

To Jnr Crew, young man,you are right,I am content, and if you think I am dinosaur,so be it.I took my degree for purely personal advancement with no career motive.I am content because I,for one, have no debt.Secondly,I have,at least what I think is a tidy sum to for retirement.I won't go so far to say that during this,my twilight years of my career I am flying as a hobby, but after so very long in CC,I am comfortable. It is you that I am trying to emphatise, the 'Boomz'generation.I have been fortunate to be born in a right generation, where SQ have provided me with a comfy life and an equally comfy retirement nest egg when it's due. You,on the hand,is barely starting in your life's journey. It is tough now, very tough. So please change your attitude and that 'anger' that I can read from your post.Good luck on your journey, but with your attitude,I think luck will not suffice.

OldChiefy said...

Oh,by the way Jnr Crew,do you know why AA is profitable?Did you know they pretty much capitalise the north American market and also the hugh South American market as well?Read more young man, read more on Internationa Issues and not just what you read from forums and the Net.Grow up,young dinosaur, for one day you will be as old as I am.

Gen YZ said...

Really dont understand this Snr Guys/Gals. Dont they know that they are not valued anymore and expensive.Yo!! Wake-up from your slumber lah.We do not want to be like all of you.We are smarter and had realised that CC Mgt onli think of bottomline. You & me are digits and personnel numbers. So no need to have all that fire and passion. As long as you do your work as per SOPs & followed the book, with your value-added and academic qualifications you will climb the next rank.I hate to say this : All the Snr Crew are still living in the olden era and dont know how to play the game.In CC, it is a game. The smarter you are, you will climb far.So do not talk about PASSION.It is onli a job. CC mgt make use of us & we make use of them.Win-win situation.

Hello OldChiefy.Don't leave in the old world lah"

A testament of "OldChiefy"'s point...
its LIVE....NOT LEAVE
Mass market Unis translate to Mass marker production of "paper" holders..
I'd have my knuckles rapped by my old Set 1 english teacher, the frumpy Miss Y (oh bless her soul) if i cant differentiate the two words...

My dear boy...U or for that matter WE are not Benjamin button...the tide of time and age does not wait for anybody...EVERYBODY ages...
and btw...WE again..are not Americans....
If for some strange reasons u think u r...join AA...
Go hold a Picket line outside Parliment House shouting "Lousy Roster"..."No need to PR"..."Only for SAFETY duties"...

Next thing u know...
A bangla, chinaman or Filipinos had taken over yr job and made u "redundant"
And you be going to yr MP shouting "Unfair Employment policies" .. " Citizens First" ...
without realizing that you in fact have effectively prized yrself out of the equation.....

Good luck..as what old chiefy said..young dinosaur....

just my 2 cents..
another not too old ..not too young semi senior crew...
with quite a fair bit of job offers....
equipped with a dash of paper
a jugful of life's "water" and a sprinkling of humility...

One day you may become a "Dinosaur" if you can live to a ripe age!

Your time will come!

Unbelievable more and more junior cc have that same attitude and arrogance!

Members of the public who read these postings will think twice before travelling with the airline.

From now on I will travel on Low Cost Carrier. Still take me from point A to B.

And good on you Jnr crew, one less passenger to serve.:)

To those who think their degree and youth is so great and challenged the older crew to leave, teasing that they will be like dinosaur to die. Think again!

Most of these dinosaurs are already millionaires with the shares and properties they hold. So those young punks who think they will perish before you, dream on!

And for those whom you think will be so unfortunate to have to become taxi drivers, insurance agents or property agents. Please know that most of the crew who left and joined these fields are still alive and many are doing so well.

It is those of you who kept complaining about the job but have to keep the job that is so pathetic because you newbies can't even afford to buy a HDB and have to stay with parents.

Talk big and loud when you have the financial power! Right now, you are just pitiful fools who survives on a miserable $3k salary.

Oh ya, just do yuor JOBS lah! Try saving up to get that HDB flat before you post that just a job shit again!

Anonymous said...

I feel so sorry for this so called graduates who think so mighty n highly of themselves but still become a flying waiters/waitress plus toilet cleaners, with their so called hig education when our time we only have O level but the selection was more stringent than currently where every Tom, Dick n Harry are able to join so easily.
FYI the senior crew are mostly very wealthy thanks to the numerious SQ shares that were given to them which you can only barely sniff with you 680 shares each time.

My dears, you have to work for more donkey years b4 you may even own a HDB flat let alone private properties.

Darling, don't think too highly of your qualifications...you are also a f......crew...a poor one at that!!!!
