Uncle BT.Just want to share with yr readers on my observation earlier when I had lunch in one of the kopitiam. It was packed with lunch crowd.A lady manning the Economy Rice stall was very rude and glum.No smile from her.I spoke in Hokkien to her & ask whether she was ok.She replied that she had too much work as the crowd visiting her stall was too much and she feel very tired. She is the owner of the stall with helpers helping her.I advise her that if she feel tired, then why don't she close her stall & take a rest. She say that if she close her stall, there would not be income. The other stall selling duck rice, the owner was all smiling, with people patronising his stall.I want to ask, is this what they say about Singaporean Behaviour.Got bizness, not happy, no bizness blame everybody. Any comments?

Allan Tan is an inflight supervisor with SIA who is also the cc union chief. He is a nice chap and work tirelessly for the crew by securing good deals for them from SIA.The previous union leader wasn't good and was ousted by Allan 2 yrs ago.

what did he do?what did the last one did wrong?my IA said he is the only one plus a few cc can trust.true?why must we be afraid ?they don't run the company.

It is: nincompoop
google it

Unionism is dead in Singapore.
Its just a show, so that we are accepted internationally.

Union is puppet of NTUC and is influenced by ruling party.

Do not believe that any union helps workers. It is all fabricated and planned to appear as though the Union stood up to management. Look and think. You are no fool..otherwise you will become : Nincompoops

I have approached the current union for help and they have help me when I was hospitalised overseas. Not only did they look into my well being, they even approach management to allow my wife to visit me,station manager there to help her when she arrived and accommodation taken care of.

Yes.Vote all the graduates in.Today, all the graduates are found in the junior crew rank, although there are some in the upper rank.So lets vote for all the junior crew and fill the Union with graduates.

I do not like the Union.
I do not like the Gah'men

So, I should migrate?

This is my birthplace. It is my home.
So, I will vote to try and change another Union and another Gah'men.
I refuse to leave.
I have as much right to stay.

I am not a coward.
I will also decide what is best for the pax and the crew.
I do not follow the rules like some donkeys do.

Customers are not always king
Union is not always honest
Gah'men is not always smart.
Management is not God.
Flying is not the best career.

Good on you.In other words, everybody is bad.Only YOU are good. Well done my friend. It is nice to sit, relax, have a beer and critise. Finish, go home to your loved ones and just have fun. So what big changes/sacrifices in your life are you embarking to change the environment we are in? Like Kennedy had said "Ask not what your country can do for you but wgat you can do for your country". In other words, President Kennedy knows that there will be many armchair critics but who do not have the decency to come forward and be an element of change. He is a wise President.

I dare to challenge the status quo.
I have the courage. Do you?

Once there was a minister on board.
His favourite meal was Japanese. This was in the early days when special orders were accepted.
There was one pair of chopsticks supplied. Yah. Big deal eh?

You see, the executives in charge of supplies such as chopsticks did not think it a big deal. The entire aircraft had only one pair.
Now days there are hundreds.

The crew collected and cleared the minister's table including the chopsticks. This was just the starter course. Next came: soba
( buckwheat noodles in sweet soya sauce) and without chopsticks.

Big F*** king problem with minister's ego and negative comments such as ..." your company's standards has dropped!"

I explained to the minister and he accepted.
( what choice did he have?... eat with his fingers?)

The matter was documented.
Despite this, the LS was hauled up by CP and he had to write an explanation.
I stood by the LS and even took full responsibility for this "lapse" on his behalf.

There are many more instances where I stood alone. Extra rest periods, encouraged crew to be pro-active in decision making and stand with them.
Denied extra food such as dessert to Tech crew. Allowed crew to choose their selection of food BEFORE pax. Encouraged juniors to work in premium classes.

I challenged the status quo. I am willing to push the envelope of my authority. Do you?

There is more than one nincompoop.
They exist in management and unions alike, including gah'men and
in heaven and hell.

Am I always right? of course not.
I am willing to lay down the gauntlet, and accept my fate.

Why? because I believe.

I truly agree with what nincompoop says.. Singaporeans better wake up and think hard.. Else all your children will suffer at the hands of the ruling party in the future ..NTUC is a PUPPET of the ruling party, go and read on the facts why the NTUC is formed and how LKY became the PM by eliminating Lim Chin Siong in operation coldstore.
Everything is just a show, else we cabin crew would have gone on a strike...

Yes.yes.I have Snr crew who are also like you. Very steady. As a jnr crew, I have high respect for them. They have the balls. The only different is their BALLS are bigger than YOU. They do not DOCUMENT it. They don't stand by the crew, they take the responsibility and punishment and the crew are not called up instead. This Snr crew I respect.

Anonymous said...

All the "steady" ones will be terminated or pushed to the corner.
Their balls are big... but it will be crushed...

And what remains?

All the ball-less creatures left behind... the 'follow the rule book" type

Thats what is left in CC.. and thats why standards are slipping.

IFS said...

Potential leaders are all in survival mode. No supervisor, LS,CS or IFS will dare venture beyond the line. All will stay well within the perimeters.

Further up the line, CCE and Managers are also in survival mode. Just handle discipline. Its very easy to do and with very visible outcomes. They will appear to be in active management of the staff, by reducing the numbers and instilling even more fear.

The cycle repeats.

Harvard trained people are fully aware of such staff perceptions.
Unfortunately, they think it is all within tolerance, only because there is no measurement of it.
The health of the business is determined by a different yardstick: The Return on Investment and the Yields. Not the mental state of the staff.

The Unions are also locked into a narrow path. Their focus is on current work conditions and they see themselves as watchdogs, ready to bark and chase away transgressions. They fail to participate in the future.

This climate will persist until the stakeholders face ultimate death. But even then, the solutions will be short lived and the focus on Yields will resume.

The cycle then repeats.

Break the cycle.. leave.

I really dun understand y u guys are so soar about the job as a crew or the co or ur pax?

If u are an ex crew-Move on. U choose 2 leave. Leave the co gracefully, leave the negative emotion behind & move on. Fm ur ex co, u hv: acquired/learned/benefits knowledge, wealth, experience etc.

With ur new job, u need 2 list ur previous job experiences which u will list down ur ex co. U really hope that ur next boss likes the svc of the crew when he/she travels his/her last trip & look up 2 up as an asset like the crew whom rendered excellent svc when he/she travelled.

If u are so negative of the co, how are gging 2 convince ur potential new boss that u are gd? If u are not gd, then should the job u are applying goes 2 u?

For those who retired(for what ever reason, u did not get extended). Let's move on a new chapter. Years of flying, it's that all u can do? Be a grumpy old man/woman & keep complaining about the past? Are u asking for sympathy votes?

For the existing ones. Being negative will drain u dry if u are not able 2 correct these unfavourable feeling. If u are so sore about it, y not just quit? If u think u are so gd, leave the co & prove 2 urself how gd u are.

So u can't quit as u are not sure, if can u make it outside? Or u know outside cannot pay u so much just 2 work 80hrs/mth? Or u dun know if u can bring hm half of ur present pay?

There are ppl who share/stir about outside world is better/greener as they are already outside. Initially, I believe they had a hard time coping wif the new life style, yet they move on.

Be happy in ur life as life is too short 2 complain so much. How u wan 2 lead ur life is ur choice. After u hv decided which path u wan, look forward & move towards it.

I m presently in the co, will be leaving soon in less than 1 mth. Resigning, not retiring as I wan 2 pursue my dream/passion. After working wif this co for so many yrs, I really appreciate all the experience/attitude/knowledge I have acquire fm the co, pax & the crew.

Pls do not question my sincerity & named me "balls sucker" 2 the co, as I m not it. Simple reason: I m leaving. No more promotion fm this co, so y should I praise the co for this just 2 get a gd name out of it.

The above are my honest feelings/thoughts for my ex/present colleagues. i wish u guys all the best for whatever u are doing.

I miss staying at the kampong with the portable toilet, bathe in common toilets, food was super cheap, running around outside the house bare-footed,carry water in pails to the house, no electricity at night, only use oil lamp, no internet, etc. Gah'men should not built all this flats, condominium, private houses.Children should not also go to school. The kampong spirit, children wake up, eat and play all day long. No worries. Hope next gah'men can bring back the old way of life - simple life with abundance happiness.
