"30 yrs"
You are a marked target.
You cost too much
You know too much
You work not enough
One wrong step
One wrong word
One mistake
One accidental brush on the arm
Its like ABC
Soon you will meet Seth C
Follow the book
Follow the book
But be carefull
That is where lies the hook
The Union?
No, they are not crooks!
They too now follow the book
follow the book
Therefore your interest they
will not look
Its truly a shame
Alan Tan has a good name
Trained by Eddie Chew
He is indeed shrewd
yet all he does is to
agree and all boxes he ticks
becos Tan Pee teck has
a bigger stick.
Good luck "30yrs".. I too, did 30 yrs and got trapped..
with no evidence except that I snapped
At a FSS who hid behind a cloak
which, uncovered, revealed the toad
Injustice! I claimed.. 30yrs of loyalty!
but, alas,
I kneel before Seth C
And what did Alan do for me?
Organised a circus for all his kakis
To see how 30yrs washed away
and tears will not sway
Panelist in the CI are not saints
It is intructions from higher up that they take.
I curse them not
They just do their job
But in their deliberations they overlooked..
They did not follow the book
Instead they took orders from SVP
which stand for senior vaginal protector

Is this a fact ??
Crew before has left a new comment on your post "This comment is unfair and unnecessary":
In 2016, about 5 years time.. many senior CCE will retire.. these were the remnants of yester years.
There are not many of them.. about 5 I think.
They are not likely to rock any boat and will simply live out their final years with the motto: "just do lah"
The newer CCEs have fire in the belly.. but this fire is truly for makan... not for service or for forstering a work ethic and climate that encourages teamwork and selflessness.
Dear crew members of the current generation:
A) Prepare a career outside of SQ
B) Prepare to leave B4 being pushed
C) Enjoy the nite stops - alone
D) Do not offload
E) Do not foul mouth anyone
F) Aquire new & certifiable skills
G) Forget about "loyalty" in SQ
Export your passion to another employer who WILL appreciate your work & passion with REAL $$ and acknowledge your contributions.
SQ will not support you.. at the slightest possibility of damage to their good name, they WILL KICK your butt! This includes bottles of mineral H20..
You are simply a prey to be chased, hunted and slaughtered and thrown away.. not even trophied!
Compare the increase in number of CI or DI since the union took over.
Compare it with the previous union and VP.. these are stats that can be used to measure the climate within the company.
Does it help morale when all your seniors are being treated with an iron fist? Does it help when unions appear ineffective in securing a balanced punishment?
Does it help you to be more passionate and considerate with your customers and colleagues when management is not considerate with your seniors or as passionate about serving you with a nuturing attitude?
If you stay long enough, you too will be a senior... then.. the CCE that taught and tutored you will now tell you and sack you.
Beware. For mature audiences only
Parental guidance advised.
Now: back to FIFA & World Cup!!

Confession of a stewardess
Last night I spoke to a second officer.
He told me how bloody lonely he was in this job and how much he misses his fiance back in Singapore. I asked him why doesn't he get married then? He replied that he thinks it wouldn't be fair to marry her only to subject her to his constant absence.
The captain on that flight is a really good looking man.. Tall, tanned, very toned. Speaks very charismatically. In fact, the only so-cute-can-make-me-blush tech crew I have seen since I started flying. The second officer told me that this captain is married with two kids, but he has a steady mistress... sigh, and to think all the fss on this flight are swooning over him. Eager to become the next mistress?
I feel quite sorry for this S/O. He seems really sincere towards his fiance. But then, I wonder how she would feel if she knew he bought me a steak dinner and shared a bottle of wine with me. We drank until we were quite tipsy. And I started to find out just how lonely he was.
Sometimes, people convince themselves that they love someone, something... only to discover later that their own actions show otherwise...
By the way, I'm no longer a junior crew.
Painting my nails are no longer an event.
Now, I paint them burgundy, sometimes maroon.
Nobody cares because I'm so good at my work.
Today though, I am feeling so restless.
The winter outside doesn't help, and the location I am in just makes me want to forget everything that I have promised to myself and indulge in the comfort of another warm body

SIA cabin crew interview in Singapore (Hyatt Grand
We can just imagine the long queue at Hyatt Grand this morning. Many in the queue are vying for the posts of flight attendant with Singapore Airlines. Registration for the walk in interview started at 9 am. By 11am I would imagine with the hundreds of cabin crew hopefuls registered, SIA would closed the registration. Most would be asked (the late comers) to go to STC for their interviews on another day.
No doubt, at the end of today's interview over 90 of these wannabes would be disappointed because they have not been selected for the job.
There are many so called "teachers"or "experts" out there conducting courses or selling guides teaching the wannabes how to pass the interview.
I happened to read one of the guides which taught the wannabes the questions the interviewers would ask them and how to answer them. This "expert" claimed that the correct answers must be provided otherwise they will fail the interview. In this guide, there were many ready answers to the expected questions that may be asked.
It is amazing how many of the wannabes bought that guide, believing it could be of great help. Sadly, at the end of the day, many who purchased this type of guide failed miserably.
It's not the correct answers the interviewers are looking for. It's the way the answers are given, the process and the likability factors involved that the interviewers are looking out for. This is not a NASA scientist job where the applicant must give the exact and accurate answers. With cabin crew, if you tell the interviewers the answer of 1+1= 4 you may still secure the job compared to one who gives the correct answer of 2 but lacking in humility and good attitude.
So you see what the interviewers are going for are people with ability to serve others with humility and graciousness. They are looking for simple folks who could demonstrate good mannerism couple with some EQ.
The guides people are selling in the blogger sphere are misleading to say the least. But if you really wanna buy those guides my suggestion is to look at their credentials and past experiences. Moreover if one who is selling is hiding his or her identity (being anonymous) my suggestion is you should cast some doubt on the product.
If I have the time, one of these days I would come out with a comprehensive guide that will help many people achieve their dreams of becoming cabin crew for free. Stay tune ............

This story was shared by the Leading Steward..
Another time, I was operating the FRA-NYC flight with an awesome set of crew.
We were having a drinking session in one of the GS' room - about six of us crew.
This story was shared by the Leading Steward...
He shared that he was doing a Jakarta night stop and had a wet dream in the middle of the night.
When he woke up with a start early in the morning, he found his comforters strewn all the way across the room, on top of the television. Worst thing, his entire torso was covered with semen, more than what a man can normally produce. He claims that he was raped by this female spirit who apparently appears to men who sleep naked in bed.
Of cos, the crew laughed it off, and I couldn't help but feel he was just trying to share his sleeping habit and ability to cum alot to the girls present, but from the way he told the story, I believe that he was telling the truth.
BT: Was written by a stewardess but she does not want me to direct people to her blog for fear of SQ knowing.

This comment is unfair and unnecessary
Those who are thinking of joining better think twice or thrice.. CC now are overworked and underpaid that is why all the junior crew are leaving, it's a lifestyle shit job ... the senior ones stuck liao.. most prob they will be looking to recruit more china gals like what is happening in our hawker centres and geylang.. But all look like shit compared to geyland leh..
BT: For your info the job of a cabin crew is still good and better than most in the market. The above comment must have come from a disgruntled crew or a non crew.
It's a fact the perks of the current cc is not as good as those of yesteryears. You've got to look at it this way, life is getting tougher and shareholders are expecting better dividends and more value for their shares. Now that SIA is paying only 12 cents dividend per share and the price of current value of each SIA share is $14.50 I won't even touch it let alone buy it. I rather park my $$ somewhere else where I can get better returns. So what can SIA do but to cut cost and lower overheads. This obviously result in not only cc but all the staff in SIA getting lesser perks.
The above said " it's a lifestyle shit job ". Honestly if this guy is right then may I ask why are there long snake queues whenever there cc interviews, whether it's in S'pore or Malaysia? So you see many still think the cc job and lifestyle is still better than a hotel receptionist, casino croupier/dealer,office clerk, salesgirl/salesman etc etc. Do you see such long queues when there are openings for other jobs?
The guy who wrote the above comment must be frustrated and long in the job. He or she ought be kicked hard in the ass. Talk big and talk cock...leave the job la and my bet is a thousand will apply for his/her vacancy.
Talking about China gals....what's wrong with them huh? They are better looking than most and the China stewardesses of SIA are much prettier and classier than those in Geylang ( I think only la cos I have not gone to Geylang ma). SIA China fss are creme de la creme ok!
Aiya I dun wanna waste too much of my precious time arguing with the guy above.....and I wanna to tell him or her to ...."Go to hell la and dun influence the cc wannabes with this type of negativity..."....hahaha....kena one from me huh?

World cup robberies in South Africa
On the Wednesday before the World Cup kicked off, a Portuguese newspaper photographer was awakened in his hotel room in the dead of night and forced at gunpoint to give up his cameras, cash and clothing...more here
How many more robberies would be committed when this world cup ends I wonder....
Three Greece players at the World Cup have had money stolen from their hotel rooms, police say.
Lt. Colonel Leon Engelbrecht said Thursday the unidentified players reported $1,921 had been stolen from their rooms on Tuesday night at the Beverly Hills Hotel in the resort of Umhlanga, just north of Durban...more here

Armed suspects entered three hotel rooms where the journalists were staying near the town of Magaliesburg, police Col. Charmaine Muller told CNN.

Are Singaporeans really all ungracious and rude?
Few days back when i came across the post by Angela Lim about Singaporeans slammed for being rude in Australian newspaper, i was still carrying a open heart as i still believe that there are a lot of Singaporeans out there who are are gracious and kind unlike the way how the Australian newspaper labeled us as.
But i was totally disappointed and dis-heartened today when this incident lead me and my husband to think back why we Singaporeans are slammed for being rude by foreigners and do we deserved it? We were at IMM today at 1.45pm, waiting for a couple to give up their car-pack lot at the level 2 IMM multi storied car park to us on the side of the road with our hazard light on when another vehicle from the back drove to the front of our car on the other side.
We sounded our car horn to let him know that we are and have been waiting for the lot before him. But his reaction to us was he simply can't be bothered. And just as the couple's vehicle who we have been waiting for their lot drove off, this particular vehicle quickly park his vehicle into the emptied lot.
When my husband winded the window and tried to reason with him that we have been waiting there for the lot before him and he should not have parked his vehicle in. Instead of showing us courtesy etc, the uncle simply replied my husband - "No the lot is mine, you are waiting for other lot....".
After replying to my husband, the uncle and two other aunties that he was with smile and walk off as if he had done nothing wrong and nothing had happen. This incident totally ruin both me and my husband mood for the day as we have just witness the unglamorous, ungracious, rude, ignorant attitude and uncultured behavior the side of ugly Singaporeans.
No wonder we are being slammed by foreigners and this is because Singaporeans cannot even show fellow Singaporeans simple kindness and graciousness. If we Singaporeans do not want to labeled or slammed for being ungracious, rude etc, do you think we Singaporeans should start showing kindness etc to other fellow Singaporeans?
Facing such harsh criticism and if you have witness such acts personally, do you agree that the level of courtesy and graciousness in Singapore society leaves really much to be desired? And should the government raise up the awareness and promote more effective campaigns in educating and inculcating kindness & consideration in local citizens?

June CC interview in S'pore
If you read my earlier post about SQ not having a cc SIN interview but 3 in Malaysia for the month of June then you may think that cc division is listening to me. Not quite so cos I know cc management rather well. They won't listen to anybody except their bosses.
The reason they suddenly wanted to hold a walk-in interview in SIN is because they are very short of cc now.
Many have resigned and others have finished their contract. More flights are going to be mounted and new destinations like Haneda,TYO etc will be having daily A380 flights from SIN in October this year.
Now cc is desperate and will take the not so "swee swee" gals too. Perhaps they will also go to Thailand to look for "sawadi kup" gals.....red shirts or yellow shirts gals also can so long as they dun demonstrate or protest over pay and working conditions here....hahaha

SilkAir 185
A reader asked me about SilkAir 185 that crashed on 19 Dec 1997 and I reproduced below an article from Wikipedia:
SilkAir Flight 185, a Boeing 737-36N, registration 9V-TRF, was a scheduled passenger flight from Jakarta, Indonesia to Singapore, which crashed on 19 December 1997 after abruptly plunging into the Musi River from its 35,000 feet cruise altitude, killing all 97 passengers and 7 crew on board.
Remarkably, the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder stopped recording, at different times and for no apparent reason, minutes before the aircraft departed level flight and entered a steep vertical dive.
The crash was investigated by various groups, with different results. The Indonesian NTSC, who were lead investigators, were unable to determine the cause, while the U.S. NTSB concluded that the crash resulted from an intentional act by a pilot, most likely the captain.

Malaysian Airlines System 653
By Patrick Mondout
On December 4, 1977, a Malaysian Airlines System (MAS) 737 was hijacked en route between Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Witnesses saw the aircraft descend from an altitude of 21,000 feet to a few thousand feet before leveling off. The aircraft then plunged into a swamp 30 miles southwest of Johor Baharu, Malaysia. All 93 passengers and 7 crew were killed.
Investigators later determined that both pilots must have been shot.

Malaysian Airline's crew rules 'embarrassing'
| KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines' work policies for its women flight attendants are "embarrassing", says the MAS Employees Union's executive secretary since 2003, Mustafar Maarof. "I was asked often about MAS's employment policies at the Civil Aviation Union international conferences in Vienna and Toronto," he said, adding that the international community viewed discrimination at work "very seriously". ...to continue click here |

Are crew better behaved now?
It's been a while now that I hear of crew getting into trouble. It's seems the crew of today is better behaved than crew of yesteryear. Lesser crew are charged for molestation, insubordination, fights, theft etc. I may be wrong but I hope not cos it augurs well for the cc division as a whole.
I was told the crew these days spend their time (during the stay overseas)hooked onto their laptops, black berry, ipod and stuff that Steve Job has recently invented (read Samsung also came out with something similar) and what have you. Crew value hotels that provide free Internet service and when management and union look for hotels that free Internet is a must. Free breakfast from the hotels is not an important criteria anymore like it used to be during my flying days.
Minimum crew interaction at night stops also cut down on incidences of misbehaviour like molestation, drunkenness etc. But is it healthy when crew does not interact with each other that often?
So far for this year I have heard of a pilot being charged for molesting a stewardess and a few cabin crew being fired for "unauthorised removal of company's property".
My source of information usually come from senior cc but most have been retired. I am now left in the lurch without much news and knowledge of what's going on in the airline. If this situation carries on then I have to give up blogging about crew and airline stories.
Any thoughts on that?

Aiya I am busy la
Hello the world cup is starting in a minute so I am going to be very busy. This is the opening ceremony of the games in South Africa....very first game on 11 June 2010 2200hr SIN LT.
My bet is on SA to win. The betting is on Mexico to beat South Africa, the nation of rainbow crimes hahaha. The betting odds is Mexico to win at .85
Ok Ok unkle is going to join the gang to watch the games now.......preeeee....goes the whistle!!!
Half time:
wah lau my balls almost dropped man. Luckily the Mexican goal was disallowed. Anyhow the way the game is going, Mexico is the better team. But I will still stick to the robbers to win.
Let's see how the 2nd half goes ok.
Full time: 1-1.....SA had 11 minutes to victory but they blew their chance by letting Mexico scored a few minutes later ( was it the 85th min?)....a bunch of idiots!

Malaysian gals better than S'pore gals meh?
Malaysian gals better than S'pore gals as stewardesses meh? I was talking about SQ conducting more cabin crew walk-in interviews in Malaysia than in Singapore (see my earlier posting http://www.bohtong.org/2010/06/whats-big-deal-with-malaysian-cabin.html ) Some of the comments I received were that Malaysians make better stewardesses than Singaporeans. That's the reason they claimed SQ is taking more from our northern neighbors.
My foot la! Malaysian gals are no better than S'porean gals. In fact both are equally bad (ooops sori ah). I suggest SIA go to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand to recruit stewardesses. These gals are hungrier and much more appreciative of the 3.5k a month SQ is offering to its stewardesses.
Years ago when we suggested to our cc svp to recruit Indonesians, Indians,Koreans etc as stewardesses, we were scoffed at. We were told SQ did not wanna be like CX whose cc are from all over Asia. Look now we have gals from those countries plus from China and Taiwan as stewardesses.
Frankly some of the svps were rather ignorant about service. They were sekolah tinggi (graduates la,baka) people who were good at currying favor their bosses ( I didn't say it's you ah TPT) than coming out with ideas to help the company in improving the inflight service. Aiya they relied more on the cabin crew executives like us to give them feedbacks more than anybody else.
Let's see whether my suggestion (above) will be adopted or not in the next couple of years...wanna bet?

Robberies in South Africa.
The above video confirms what most people believe that South Africa is a dangerous place to visit or live in. Robbery is a way of life and it's hard to avoid being robbed even if you are not rich.
I know of an ex steward who emigrated there with his family. He and his family was robbed at their home at gun point.Their ferocious dogs were poisoned and electric fences disabled. They almost kidnapped their only son. He was bashed up for at first refusing to show them his safe. They almost shot him.
There was also a case of a Singaporean who emigrated to Cape Town. His wife and mother was raped and almost all his belongings were carted away.
When I was there on a working trip 18 years ago, I heard gun shots every night from my hotel room. Whenever my crew and I wanted to go out of the hotel,we were escorted by big black hotel security guards armed with automatic weapons. Even then a few of the crew were robbed.
There was a guy who was not only robbed off his wallet but his entire clothing that were on him. He was left with his underwear.
Now with the world cup just under 5 days away, an Australian man became the first victim of South African robbery. Another victim was a Chilean tourist robbed at gunpoint by 4 armed men.
Your guess is as good as mine as to how many others will be robbed and killed during the world cup.
Don't give me a free ticket to the world cup because I will never want to visit that notorious country.
Why in the world would they allow SA to host the biggest event on earth?

What are your comments about this article?
Sydney Morning Herald writer Tamara Thiessen wrote that Singaporeans are
ungracious, uncivic conscious and rude.
ungracious, uncivic conscious and rude.
She wrote:
An IT manager from Sydney who is based in Singapore, Paul Stapleton, is quoted in the article saying, "They (Singaporeans) are the rudest f***ing
people I have ever seen; they need some basic training in civic awareness.
They don't feel that anyone else exists outside this tiny island."
Another long-time British resident staying here added, "The problem is the
sole concern of most Singaporeans is money and economic well-being. The only
reason the churches here are packed to the rafters is because people attend
in order to network."

Yes, these foreign talents cannot stand Singaporeans. Their luck to meet
rude Singaporeans or is it because they met Singaporeans who are smarter
than them!. But who think a world of themselves. I am sure they are people
like this and I am sure there also many many Singaporeans who are not only
civic conscious, kind and gracious but also generous and angelic. Maybe
these chow ang mo have a point. A segment of our population are still
uncivilised and have treated our foreign talent with disdain. Who are these
people? Singapore is so metropolitan now. Have they met with new migrants
from Romania, Israel, Russia, Vietnam, China or India or eleswhere, I
wonder?

What's the big deal with Malaysian cabin crew?
One will notice that SIA is conducting more cabin crew interviews in Malaysia than in Singapore. In June alone there are 3 walk-in interviews in Malaysia and none in Singapore. Many Singaporeans are keen to apply to be cabin crew with it's national airline so why go all the way to places like Ipoh, KL , Kuching and JB to recruit Malaysian cabin crew. Fyi MAS the Malaysian national airline does not even want to employ Singaporeans as it's cabin crew. The same goes for the pilots too.
Another thing is Malaysians are allowed to attend the interviews in S'pore whereas S'poreans are NOT allowed to attend the ones in Malaysia. Why the discrimination huh?
From my experience of working for 35 years with SQ as a cabin crew I am of the view that Malaysians are no better cabin crew than Singaporeans. There are no more the likes of Malaysians stewardesses like See Bee Wah, Pauline Ho, Angela etc etc anymore.
Don't believe what I have stated above is correct then you may visit SIA's website: http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/content/company_info/careers/cabin_crew.jsp

Exploited the young stewardesses
Len was a friendly and tactful sort who would would do anything to help his junior colleagues. Colleagues? yes but help and nice to the stewardesses only.
Loved by the ladies and loathed by the male crew,Len did not care two hoots about the guys.
Len held a senior position in the cabin crew department. He was able to "close one eye" to any misgiving on the part of the female crew, even to the extent of them playing truant but would not condone the same "crime" if committed by a male crew.
He often punished the male crew severely but with let the girls got away with "blue murder".
Why was Len behaving like the way he did? Simple was the answer. He would get lots of free f**** for letting the girls got away for their "crimes". Len moreover wasn't that bad looking. He was tall by Asian standards, almost 6 ft. in height. He had a charming smile but it was put on for the ladies only.
One day, he had the chance to sleep with a stewardess who had a complaint from her ex-husband about her not declaring she was married when she first joined the airline ( it would amount to lying and warranted a dismissal if found out). She was exonerated of her "crime" because she gave herself to Len.
This time, it wasn't so lucky for Len because he found out later on he had AIDS from that stewardess. Years later,Len died from that dreaded disease.
You will notice that I have crossed out the last para because I was corrected by someone who knew Len. The fact is Len did not have AIDS let alone die of it. I was given the wrong info in the beginning (sorry for that). Perhaps the earlier info came from someone who didn't like Len.
In fact, I was told Len got away with everything he had done (the abuse of power)and has retired happily. How can hor...no karma ah?
