Aljunied voters will regret choosing WP: MM Lee

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has warned Singaporeans, especially those in Aljunied GRC, they will "pay a price, the hard way" if they vote for the Opposition.

Speaking to reporters during a visit to Tampines on Friday night, MM Lee said, "If they (Aljunied voters) choose (the opposition), then I say, good luck to them. They have five years to ruminate and to regret what they did. And I have no doubts they will regret it."
The 87-year-old warned voters they would have to live with the choice they make come Polling Day on Saturday.

"It may well happen that they win, in which case the people of Aljunied live with the results," he was quoted as saying on The Straits Times.

"The only way people learn is when they have to pay a price. From time to time we may lose, and the voters pay the price, " he said.
He further cautioned, "If Singaporeans are that fickle, they will have to pay a price, the hard way."
He highlighted the example of opposition-held ward Hougang where, "If you have the wrong government, your property prices go right down. Ask why in Hougang the property is not as high as their neighbours."
The high-powered 'A' team from the Workers's Party contesting the Aljunied hotspot consists of former Hougang MP Low Thia Khiang, former NCMP Sylvia Lim, the party's "star catch" Chen Show Mao as well as family counsellor Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap and post-graduate law student Pritam Singh.
They will be up against the incumbent PAP team fronted by Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Lim Hwee Hua, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Madam Cynthia Phua and new face Ong Ye Kung, an assistant secretary-general of NTUC .
MM Lee also urged Aljunied voters to look at the track record of the different candidates.
"Do you want a capable team that can look after your interests, or do you want a team with little track record?" he said.
"At the end of the day, if you are in Aljunied, ask yourself: Do you want one MP, one Non-Constituency MP, one celebrity who has been away 30 years, and two unknowns to look after you?"
Or, he asked if voters would prefer two ministers, one potential Parliament Secretary, one potential Speaker of Parliament and one grassroots MP?
Cautioning voters against "trying their luck" when the value of their property and livelihood was on the line, MM Lee said, "Just think. Five years, they're in charge of your property and your lives... If you like to try your luck, well good luck to you. But I guarantee you, you will not do better than the PAP candidates."
MM Lee, whose own Tanjong Pagar GRC went uncontested, went on to question the WP slogan of"Towards A First World Parliament."

"Do you want a first world government or you want a first world opposition?" he asked.

"And is this a first world opposition? Can they compare themselves to the senators in the US congress?... If you want a third world or even a second world opposition to come and create a bit of excitement, well that's your choice," he said.

"But I do not consider them a first world opposition. I do not want to degrade them but you just look at their track record."

Nicole second most popular politician online

Only 6 days after starting her Facebook profile, National Solidarity Party (NSP) candidate Nicole Seah is now Singapore's second most popular politician online after Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

By 9pm on Monday, the 24-year-old opposition candidate had amassed 18,900 fans compared to Mr Lee's 54,000 fans. She had earlier that day overtaken previous runner-up Foreign Minister George Yeo's 18,700 fans, despite the fact that he had a three-year head start.

Only Miss Seah and Mr Yeo are, however, active on the social networking site used by one in two Singaporeans. Mr Lee's page is not actively maintained and has no content other than some background information of him.

Both Miss Seah and Mr Yeo beat other candidates in the online popularity contest handily.

Asked whether she thought online popularity translates into votes, Miss Seah said: 'This is a watershed election for social media, and how this will translate into votes is anybody's guess.'

She is part of the NSP team contesting against Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong's team in the Marine Parade group representative constituency.

Mr Yeo, who took the question at an event at the *Scape youth park, was more bullish. Online popularity, he said, has a bearing on votes.

'The question is, how much?'

BT: If lose election can become stewardess mah and later contest in the CC union election and sure be voted in as CC's union President. Btw CC union beli "luan" and need a Nicole Seah to help them.

Carried to her room by a ghost?

Stewardess Alice didn't like the setting of her hotel room in HK. It was dim and the wall paper was dark and gloomy. Alice felt eerie that evening when she checked into her room. She picked up the phone and called her colleague
Helen asking whether she could bunk in with her.
"It's fine with me,don't be afraid because I think my room is ok" Helen told Alice over the phone. Alice without even unpacking her bag hurriedly left for Helen's room.
When Alice entered her room, Helen noticed her face was pale and was having cold sweat all over her body. Now Helen began to feel scared.
The 2 girls shared room that night. However something strange and unexplainable happened that night.
At about 3 am Helen got up to go to the toilet but found the bed in which Alice was sleeping empty. "Where has Alice gone to at this time of the night?" Helen asked herself. The next moment, the phone rang and Alice was on the other end of the phone. She sounded frightened and all Helen heard was "I am scared,I am so scared...."
Helen left and went to Alice's room. They were both trembling with fear and decided to call their leading stewardess, Mag.
On hearing their plight,Mag went over to Alice's room. She asked for the key to Helen's room.Mag proceeded to Helen's room and on opening the door, saw an old lady with long black hair sleeping on Alice's bed.
Mag was one of the few crew who were known to have an unusual sensitivity
to supernatural phenomena (like ghosts).
Mag communicated with that old lady and pleaded with her to leave the room.
After much persuasion,the lady left.
Mag returned to Alice's room and invited them to bunk in with her. She assured them that everything was taken care off.

Later in the day,Mag explained to the 2 girls that Alice was "physically carried" from Helen's room to her own room by that old lady who was a ghost. She told Mag that was her bed which she had been sleeping for the last few years and Alice had no business sleeping there.

It was rumoured that a lady guest had committed suicide by hanging herself in the same room Helen was staying just 2 years ago.

PS: the other theory was that Alice sleepwalked to her own room. The door to Helen's room was not locked after Alice left. Alice had her door key on the bedside next to the bed she was sleeping in.

No gratuity? U mad or what?

Ann had worked sufficient number of years to qualify for a lump sum gratuity payment when she finally quit the airline. But then she was penalised and told she would not be receiving her gratuity because she had taken too many medical leave during her tenure as a stewardess. Most of the mcs were from IMH (Institute of Mental Health) which showed Ann was mentally unstable.
As a last resort, Ann approached her MP for help. Her MP knew Jack the cabin crew union leader very well and called him to assist Ann.
Jack spoke to Ann and found out that even before she had joined the airline she had on some occasions consulted the IMH psychiatrists regarding her condition. Based on this, Jack argued that the airline was unfair not to pay Ann since they knew that Ann had consulted the psychiatrists in IMH before becoming a stewardess. The airline denied knowing Ann had consulted the psychiatrist before.
Finally, the Jack managed to persuade the airline to pay Ann.

BT: This story was related to me by a former unionist.
Note:  SINGAPORE Airlines used to pay cabin crew a gratuity of $15,000 upon completion of five years of service.
This has now been cut to $10,000, but a bigger gratuity awaits those who stay on: Junior crew who stay 10 years, for example, will now collect $35,000 - $5,000 more than before.

Cannot say, never say but can tell you in private..hehehe.

During the past week I have met a few retired crew at some shopping malls like the Nex Mall and other eateries. We had meals and drinks and chatted about the funny stories that took place during our previous job. Some of the stories told and if I were to blog about them, would cause a big embarrassment to our ex employer. How could I blog about a gal who told a extremely difficult passenger to "F*** off" during the flight? How I could I blog about the crew playing SKP during the nite flight so on and so forth?
Yes, so I've decided not to blog about things we did that would cause discomfort to the airline.
It was fun though meeting these senior ex crew.

No bias against Taiwan crew, says SIA

SINGAPORE Airlines does not discriminate against its Taiwanese employees, a spokesman said in response to a recent complaint made by a former SIA flight attendant from Taiwan.
The woman, surnamed Liu, said in a recent interview with Taiwan news channel CTI that SIA had falsely advertised the basic salary for cabin crew. She also claimed that Taiwanese flight attendants were left out of training opportunities and long-haul routes, and were not given certain benefits and allowances.

Click here to find out more!
The advertisement can be found on SIA's website. It states: "Upon graduation (from training), you can look forward to a basic salary and various allowances amounting to about $3,500 a month."
The SIA spokesman told AsiaOne: "Our ads state very clearly that the salary figure cited is for basic salary and various allowances.
"The majority of our cabin crew are trained to operate on multiple fleet types, which cover most of our destinations, as long as they meet English-proficiency requirements."
The spokesman added that SIA employs a small number of crew members from Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan. They primarily operate on routes serving those specific markets, and fill a need for flight crew who are familiar with local cultural and language requirements.
"This is made known to them during recruitment."

February 1968.... I started training as a steward.

I Can't remember how long the training was but it wasn't too long like these days where it can take up to 4 months. It was at Paya Lebar airport where we were trained. There wasn't a decent classroom. It was like a tuition session where we sat around a table with our instructor teaching us from the book. There wasn't even a blackboard let alone power point, white board, flip chart etc etc.

The food and beverage classes were the most enjoyable. We were brought to the catering and kitchen areas which were situated one floor below us. We were allowed to sampled the food and drinks in the in flight kitchen. It was real fun.
There was 3 guys and 2 gals in our group and our instructor was newly promoted and he was damn good at his work.
The most senior person was the cabin crew superintendent and his name was Jimmy Goh, a short guy with small eyes. His assistant was a mustachioed guy by the name of Robert Phun. Jimmy was never a steward whereas Robert was a former steward. These two were most likely to be in their late 20s or early 30s.
When I first reported for training at cabin crew department, I was astounded by the rows of beautiful cars parked along the roadside adjacent to the office. There were Jaguar,BMW,Alfa Romeo and the high end and expensive cars. I found later that those cars belonged to the serving stewards.
After seeing those cars,I was motivated to work hard and did passed my exams with flying colours.
There wasn't any graduation ceremony or certificate of competency after our course. There was no celebration or whatsoever. We merely go on our flights as though we were senior crew,no spoon-feeding at all.
My first flight was on the Fokker 27, a 20 seater aircraft. The flight was to Malacca,Kl and back, all in a day. The menu was "poh piah" or spring rolls heated up in the Mapco ovens. They tasted delicious and after the passengers had their share,we gobbled up the remainder.
One of the most interesting events on one of my flights was the Medan flight where live crabs escaped from the cargo areas and crawled into the cabin, causing panic amongst the passengers.
At times there were cargo of rambutans, mangoesteens and fruits from Malaysia loaded next to our galley for import into S'pore. One of the cabin crew pastime was to savour the juicy sweet fruits, courtesy of our importers during our free period.
Life as a cabin crew was fun and satisfying.

Why such comment huh?

"you forgot to mention one other requirement: being nasty to the engineering staff. oh yes, many of us have had just about enough of you CCs "real mature" acts. of course, to be fair, there are those who are nice. but i've personally come across enough of snobbish CCs to come to the conclusion that if you're a CC long enough, you WILL be a jackass.
all talk about stress, unruly paxes, diseases and what-have-you...but you didn't mention the LV luggages you strut around with, or the vw gt that drive to and from Changi Airport, or that rolex you have on your wrist. or the fact that you treat engineering personnel like we're supposed to be at your beck and call. get off your high-horses you myopic, arrogant morons. and because of your union arm, we're stuck with Loga as GS of SIASU. well done you bunch of waiters".

BT: Above was a comment left for CC (cabin crew). Obviously the writer must be an engineering staff from SQ. Aiya friend how can you call us a "bunch of waiters", "jackass", " arrogant moron" etc?
No big deal about Rolexes or VW, LV bags etc..

Missed flying ? no lah I miss the free booze.

Quite a few were sacked or asked to leave the airline because of their drinking. Most were senior male crew who on the average had spent 20 years flying.
Before joining the airline most were non alcoholic drinkers but somehow after a while they became compulsive drinkers. What were the probable causes? Some say it was because of the easy access to free alcohol on the planes while others blamed it on the lonely stops at oversea stations.
Most became alcoholic before the age of 55 and could not lived without alcohol.
Their favorite drinks were Johnnie Walker Black Label Whisky, Brandy VSOP, Beer, etc.
The above are hard liquors and too much consumption of them would ultimately cause liver cirrhosis or  liver cancer. Quite a few technical as well as cabin crew had been victim of this deadly sickness.
Liquor of many types are found on the airplane bars.
You would have whisky, brandy, gin, vodka, bourbon, beer, champagne, wines etc etc on the bar list. They are all served free of charge. The airline does not query the crew if the consumption is high or otherwise. Most of the drinking crew would write off the number of bottles they brought into their overseas stations as items consumed by passengers eg. the crew would take  2 bottles of Scotch whisky and wrote down as 2 bottles consumed by their passengers.
For a bottle of Black Label whisky one would have to pay an average price of S$100 at a retail outlet. For an average alcoholic, the consumption of a bottle a day is normal. Three days of night stop means 3 bottles consumed.
And what about those discreetly drinking on board the plane whilst on duty? Not discreetly really because you can't hide the alcoholic breath.
One senior crew fainted on a flight to Germany. A doctor was summoned and the diagnosis was " alcoholic withdrawal symptom". Reason?  It was because his superior was on the same flight doing an appraisal on him and had to refrain from drinking.
Another crew collapsed in the classroom while attending a computer course due to lack of alcohol in his blood. Many couldn't wake up in time for their flights because they had too much drink before their flights.
Most of the crew who had left the airlines bemoaned the great loss of free alcohol.
Fortunately, I didn't take a liking to alcohol otherwise I too may be like them.

A farewell party

Can't believe my ears when a crew told me this story...it went like this:

A senior staff (boss) in his department was to be transferred to another division. Let's call him Terry. He was not the best boss to work with and most of his staff disliked him.
One day he had news he was to be transferred out of his dept. It was a practice that the staff would throw a farewell party for a colleague who is leaving the dept or company. Being an unpopular boss, Terry knew his junior staff would not care to give him a farewell party. In order to avoid embarrassment to himself, Terry decided to give the staff a farewell party.
Terry's house was big and spacious. He organised a party and invited his staff. Being polite, most of the staff attended his party. They had a BBQ and lots of drinks.
On the next working day i.e. Monday, Terry's secretary went round the office and asked those staff who had attended the farewell party to pay for their share of the expenses incurred at the party!

Met pilot Ian's wife face to face.

"Ian's wife and I met on Wed's evening at hotel cafe in the city. Her name was "Betty" and I was surprised to find her looking youthful despite of her age (about 40). At first,I was damn uncomfortable. Meeting your lover's wife is not funny. The feeling sucks but I had to go through it. Ian did not have any knowledge of his wife meeting me and talked things over. He would be mad at me if he finds out.

One thing that shocked me was Ian had herpes. When Betty broke the bad news, my jaws almost dropped. "Girl you better go for a medical check up" said Betty to me. "Ian passed that dreaded disease to me years ago" Betty told me with a sigh of regret. I did not know what else to do but broke down and cried in front of Betty. I was disappointed with Ian. What else has he got that he didn't tell me? AIDS"

BT: Above was a story from a stewardess who had a pilot lover. Betty was the pilot's wife who found out about their affair and requested the meeting with the stewardess.

What they got by bullying the cabin crew.

A cattle class passenger got up from his sleep and found other paxs were served meals but not him. He was very annoyed and shouted at the chief steward for not serving him. The c/s apologised and explained that "it would not be a problem" because the crew would served him straightaway. The pax rudely pointed his index finger at the c/s and told him "it will be your problem as I am going to complain to your CEO about your f**king service attitude". The c/s replied " Sir, since you are so rude and going to complain against me, I am not serving you any meal for the remaining 11 hours of the flight to London."

Passenger Sam was not only rude to the crew but put his hand under the skirt of a female pax when she was fast asleep next to his seat. The lady screamed and the cabin crew came to her rescue only to find a drunkard Sam verbally abusing them.
The senior steward relocated Sam to another seat away from the ladies. Sam insisted he had another alcoholic drink. The steward obliged and served him the drink with 2 strong dosage of sleeping pills dissolved in it.
Not only did Sam sleep very well after the drink but did not disembarked at his destination on the way to Europe.

A flight engineer verbally abused a stewardess on the flight only to eat his steak which was rolled on the galley floor.

Another flight crew pulled rank on the steward only to have his tea not only with milk but the steward's sputum in it.

A half pissed Mr. Clark threatened a steward for not serving him alcohol only to be arrested by security when the plane landed. He told the steward he would get him killed (this happened 30 yrs ago). The said steward is still alive and kicking at age 65 now.

A passenger dumped his rather large kite on a first class seat when he was a cattle class passenger. The crew told him that he was not allowed to leave his kite in the f/c seat. There was a vacant seat next to him at the back and he could leave his kite there. He insisted the kite travel f/c. At the end of the flight he left the aircraft fuming mad as there was a hole in his kite!

.........more later huh?
