A Tribute to the famous Patti Page

Patti Page
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clara Ann Fowler (born November 8, 1927), known by her professional name Patti Page, is an American singer, one of the best-known female artists in traditional pop music. She was the best-selling female artist of the 1950s and has sold over 100 million records. Her nickname is The Singin' Rage.
Page signed with Mercury Records in 1947, and became their first successful female artist, starting with 1948's "Confess." In 1950, she had her first million-selling single with "With My Eyes Wide Open, I'm Dreaming," and would eventually have 14 additional million-selling singles between 1950 and 1965.
Page's signature song, "Tennessee Waltz," recorded in 1950, was one of the biggest-selling singles of the twentieth century, and is also one of the two official state songs of Tennessee. "Tennessee Waltz" spent 13 weeks atop the Billboard magazine's Best-Sellers List in 1950. Page had three additional #1 hit singles between 1950 and 1953, with "All My Love (Bolero)", "I Went to Your Wedding," and "(How Much Is That) Doggie in the Window."
Unlike most pop music singers, Page blended the styles of country music into many of her most popular songs. By doing this, many of Page's singles also made the Billboard Country Chart. Towards the 1970s, Page shifted her career towards country music, and she began charting on the country charts, up until 1982. Page is one of the few vocalists who have made the country charts in five separate decades.
When rock & roll music became popular during the second half of the 1950s, traditional pop music was becoming less popular. Page was one of the few traditional pop music singers who was able to sustain her success, continuing to have major hits into the mid-1960s with "Old Cape Cod," "Allegheny Moon," "A Poor Man's Roses (Or a Rich Man's Gold)," and "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte."
In 1997, Patti Page was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. In 2007 Patti Page was inducted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame.

Mr Brown the famous S'pore blogger complained about SIA

On the Hong Kong-to-Singapore leg of my SQ1 flight from San Francisco, a B777 aircraft, an air steward noticed my iPhone connected to the in-seat USB port.
He then told me I couldn't charge my iPhone this way. It seems it's not a question of not enough juice in that port but because the USB port does not have a circuit breaker and will keep charging even when the battery is full. Apparently it may overload the circuits or something.
I even offered to disconnect my iPhone when it was full but he wouldn't have any of it. So
I disconnected my iPhone from the USB port.
This is new to me. I have seen many people use it, myself included, without being told off.
It seems strange to me that you would design a plane with a USB port that cannot do what normal USB ports on computers do.
Anyways, I just switched to charging via the in-seat power socket (good thing I had my iPhone charger head with me).
So these SQ USB ports, are they only good for flash drives? Strangely, their Krisworld magazine touts connecting your iPhone to the Krisworld system to access your own movies and music via the in-seat screen and the connection method? The USB port.
They did have an asterisk on the iPhone bit that stated "On Selected Aircraft Only". So maybe my B777 was not one of the "Selected Aircraft".
Maybe Singapore Airlines can go to Sim Lim Square and pick up new USB ports for these planes. I heard got offer.

SQ new budget airline

SIA is starting a new medium to long haul budget airline sometime in 2012.
The proposed new airline, which will use widebody aircraft to fly medium and long-haul routes, will be wholly owned by Singapore Airlines but will be operated independently and managed separately from SIA, the carrier says.
The new carrier will likely compete with Jetstar Airways, the low-cost unit of Qantas Airways, and AirAsiaX, the longer-haul unit of Malaysia's AirAsia, for routes beyond the reach of traditional low-cost airlines that don't fly for more than five hours.
In a statement, chief Executive Goh Choon Phong said: "We are very excited about what our new low-fare subsidiary will offer to consumers. We are seeing a new market segment being created and this will provide another growth opportunity for the SIA Group.
"As we have observed on short-haul routes within Asia, low-fare airlines help stimulate demand for travel, and we expect this will also prove true for longer flights."
The new airline will start operations with a fleet of aircraft transferred from Singapore Airlines, Nicholas Ionides, the company spokesman said . Longer term fleet decisions will be made later.
The proposed airline won't hurt the business of its parent or of Tiger Airways Holdings, in which Singapore Airlines holds a 33 per cent equity stake, Mr Ionides said, adding that the company has no plans to reduce its stake in Tiger.
As for other details like routings, branding, logo, staff and crew or it's CEO, SIA has not given information.
My guess is the cabin and cockpit crew would come from the present bunch of people, especially the cabin crew. They would probably made up of crew who had finished their contarcts and retired cabin crew. Their instructors would probably be people like Boh Tong and some of his former more capable colleagues...hehehe tan ku la.
Logo wise it could like the one above which was the defunct MSA (Malaysia S'pore Airlines). SQ could tweak it a bit, change the colour and make it look slightly different. You may call it "Majulah Singapura Airlines or My Singapore Airlines or better still Merlion Singapore Airlines". Malaysia protested after MSA split in October 1972 to Singapore's desire to use it's logo and 3 letter coded. 39 years on, I don't think Malaysia would mind anymore (perhaps they had forgotten about the issue).

The accommodation for crew who stop at outstations could be 3 star hotels or even 5 star if so desired but have to share room to save cost.
Salary and allowances should be less than the main carrier staff and crew. If union demands higher salaries then it should recruit staff and crew from third world countries.

As for capital, SIA could raise it through the stock market. Yes, float the shares like how it did with Tiger Airways.

The inflight service will be minimum and f & b would be sold on the flight. Paxs are not allowed to bring "outside food" to the aircraft, so no tar pow ok!

Minimum number of cabin crew would be carried to look mainly after paxs' safety eg on a B747 flight maximum number of cc would be 12 (there are 12 doors). This would be tailored to the number of paxs on the flight i.e if lesser than a full flight then less than 12 cc would be carried.

Destinations would most likely be northern China and India. There will be a few flights to Europe and Latin America.

What else huh?

Southwest suspended pilot after radio rant

AP
AP – Wed, Jun 22, 2011

DALLAS (AP) — Southwest Airlines suspended a pilot whose disparaging comments about gays and older flight attendants were transmitted over an air-traffic control frequency.
The pilot was talking with another crew member and apparently didn't realize that his microphone was on.
Southwest said Wednesday that the pilot was reinstated after going through diversity training. The incident happened in March and was reported this week by KPRC-TV in Houston.

You Know It’s a "No Frills" Airline When…

* They don’t sell tickets, they sell chances.
* All the insurance machines in the terminal are sold out.
* Before the flight, the passengers get together and elect a pilot.
* You cannot board the plane unless you have the exact change.
* Before you took off, the stewardess tells you to fasten your Velcro.
* The Captain asks all the passengers to chip in a little for gas.
* When they pull the steps away, the plane starts rocking.
* The Captain yells at the ground crew to get the cows off the runway.
* You ask the Captain how often their planes crash and he sez, "Just once."
* No movie. Don’t need one. Your life keeps flashing before your eyes.
* You see a man with a gun, but he’s demanding to be let off the plane.
* All the planes have both a bathroom and a chapel.

Was it guilt or love that killed ...........?

Simon and Lily were childhood sweethearts. You may call it puppy love but you may be wrong. Their love for each other started from a tender age of 13 when they were in a co-ed school.
Each day during the recess period, the two of them would sit close to each other sipping drinks with straws from the same glass. They would pecked each other on the cheeks and nothing more intimate than that as it was prohibited in school.
Of course, everyday school day Lily and Simon would take the same bus to and from school, holding hands. Incidentally they were also living in the same neighborhood. They were very much in love. Their love for each other grew stronger by the day. Later they studied at the same university and graduated from there. Simon majored in Economics and Lily in Business studies.
They eventually got married and decided to start a family but something unfortunate happened that would changed their lives forever.
Simon and Lily spent their honeymoon in the Australia. It was while driving a rented car from Brisbane City to the Gold Coast that an accident happened. Their car slammed into an oncoming car at a speed of 100 kpm and it left Simon paralysed from waist down. Lily was not badly hurt and recovered in a month or two. Simon condition remained the same i.e. he was paralysed permanently. It was tragic and had long term consequences for the couple. Their dreams of having children were dashed.
Back home, Lily had to take care of Simon. Besides going to work she had to feed, wash and take care of Simon's medication etc. They had a maid but she did most of the housework and did not attend to Simon much.
Taking care of Simon and working at the same time took a toll on Lily. Besides all the hard work, Lily needed some emotional and physical love and attention just like a normal person. This went on for two years and Lily became frustrated with life. She often thought of suicide but the thought of Simon without her was unbearable. She persevered but for how long more?

At her work place, a handsome young man by the name of Victor had an eye for Lily. They knew each other for a year and he knew the problems Lily had. Vic was a nice gentle man and Lily liked him as a colleague. Sometimes, they would go out for lunch together but that's about it.

Often seeing Lily being bogged down with her domestic problem and appeared to be sad, Vic decided to cheer her up by asking her to go out for a movie one day after work. Lily accepted and they went for a movie one evening.

It was a romance movie and Vic and Lily enjoyed it. They had a wonderful time together. After the movie and a light supper, Vic drove Lily home. Just as Lily was about to leave the car, Vic leaned over and kissed Lily on her cheek. Suddenly a gust of sexy lustful feeling overwhelmed Lily. She had never felt like this before even during her days with Simon. Is this love? Lily asked herself or merely animalistic  lust?
Whatever it was, Lily felt good. She went home to Simon feeling happy. She had a nice time and Simon could feel it and was happy for her.

One thing led to another. Three months passed after their first date and now Lily was sleeping with Vic,often at the expense of Simon. She would reached home late and lied to Simon that she was working overtime. But Simon could sense Lily was involved with someone romantically. Simon pretended he did not suspect anything but he was relief and glad that his wife was having a good time. It didn't matter who she was screwing around with for he can't fulfilled the role of a sex giver to Lily.

Meanwhile, Lily was torn between Simon and Vic. She would preferred Simon but since the car accident he can't fulfilled her sexual lust. And here was Vic so handsome and caring and could satisfied her sexually. Somehow, Lily was confused but decided to postponed thinking about the future.

One day after work, Lily found Simon dead from an overdosed of sleeping pills. In his suicide note he pleaded with Lily to go on loving the man she was going out with and forget about him. He said in his note that he felt useless as a husband and decided to make way for his wife's happiness by committing suicide.
Lily was shattered and felt guilty. She kept feeling sorry for Simon and missed him a lot.
A few days later, Lily was admitted to a mental hospital for severe depression and trying to take her life.

According to her psychiatrist, Lily was having hallucinations. In her hallucination, Lily often talked to Simon like a good wife would talk to her husband. She often expressed her love to Simon and in return Simon would "whisper love words to her".

Lily never recovered from her illness and spent the rest of her life in the mental hospital. She died at the age 35.
of 35.

BT gave it to paxs complaining about crew resting in pax seats

What's wrong with resting in the seats?

Read the article below concerning passengers' complaints about SQ cabin crew resting next to them. What's wrong with resting next to a passenger? The crew were tired and entitled to a short rest and of course there wasn't any crew bunks on this B777 aircraft. SQ was short of aircraft or may have considered it not appropriate to deploy larger planes with crew bunks on this sector. Therefore, SQ allowed the cabin crew to take a short rest on the passenger seats.
These are the same type of people who disallowed their maids to eat at the same table with them (see picture below). Please la give them some dignity. They are human beings just like you and me. They dun wanna be cabin crew or maids if given the choice. Of course they prefer to be ceos, ministers, chairmans of big companies or the filthy rich etc but circumstances did not allow them.
Passengers and Stinkaporeans in general love to complain and grumble. These are the most unhappy people in the world. They also want others to be in the unhappy state like they are in. They have mouths like chicken backsides.
Go to hell and fly other airlines la. Wah I was told by some Ang Moh airline crew that passengers dare not even complain about them drinking alcohol while on duty. Hello, drinking wine to them is like drinking water to us la.
I was told by a supervisor that while attending to a complaint from a Stinkaporean passenger, he was asked to kneel down and not stand and talk to that passenger....what rubbish was that!
Then you have those who woke up the crew to demand for service. They could have easily asked those crew who were not resting. These type of passengers were the ones who think their 5 cents was like bullock cart wheels that big, so to speak in Hokkien.

Dear Mr/Mrs/Miss/Dr passengers I personally had enough of your bloody nonsense. I am glad I left being a cabin crew years ago. KNN

i feel that it is ok to have crew members to join the passenger in the same seating area to take a break. They are also human and u can't possibily ask them to hide at the pantry and take a break, its very unhumanly. I remember once i was on a long haul flight from San Francisco to Singapore and I can't find an air stewardess on duty as most of them are hiding at the pantry to take their meals, I felt very guilty when I ask for a drink from them as I understand they are having their meal breaks but can't be help my mum is coughing all the way. Therefore, I think that if there is no need for a service from the crew member, we should try to avoid disturbing them during their breaks. I understand that some crew member flew quite a few flights in a week therefore they will feel tired and need rest

Nepalese accused of raping SIA stewardess in HK

A Nepalese waiter has been accused of raping a Singapore Airlines air stewardess on a yacht in Hong Kong.
The accused, 21-year-old Gu Lun, appeared in court and insisted that he was innocent and admitted having sex with the 23-year-old stewardess only because she flashed her chest and seduced him first.
A DJ, whom the woman knew through her frequent visits to the Beijing Club in Lan Kwai Fong, had invited her to a promotional party on a yacht on 27 June last year.
She went with three girlfriends and got very drunk after having vodka, red wine and beer. However, the next morning, she woke up with some pain on her lower body and found herself someone else's home.
After a check with her friends, she realised that she had been sexually assaulted by a Nepalese waiter and she filed a police report.
According to media reports, the woman was on an annual visit to see her relatives in Hong Kong.
Last July, a Singaporean exchange student in Hong Kong was also sexually assaulted by three Nepalese men after she had been drinking in the fashionable Lan Kwai Fong district.

Charming Andy fought till the end.

Andy was a Leading Steward on the Boeing fleet . He was in his twenties, handsome and charming with a pleasant personality. Sometime in that year, he discovered that his body bruised easily with slight knocks from work in the aircraft. And the bruises did not go away. He went to consult the Company doctor who referred him to the General Hospital for blood test. He was diagnosed with acute leukaemia and warded in the hospital for treatment.
About a month after his hospitalisation I visited him and he was as usual pleasant and cheerful. A couple of months passed and I was told that Andy had become blind. After that I visited him again. His blindness did not depress him for he was still his cheerful and pleasant self. He was hopeful in getting better. He passed away about a month later.
While Andy was warded, a young lady doctor in charge of the ward attended to him. Their almost daily interaction between doctor and patient developed to that of close friendship. Their fondness for each other grew and they fell in love with each other. Despite his condition, the doctor lover had hopes of Andy’s recovery. Just before Andy’s condition worsened to blindness, they decided to get engaged. Even after Andy became blind, his fiancée doctor stood by him, encouraging him to fight his leukaemia. But the disease got the better of him and finally after months of treatment and struggle against the disease, Andy passed away.
This is a true love story with tragic end.

European Stewardesses

Many years ago we had European stewardesses on our European sectors. These girls were employed because of their language proficiency. They spoke English,Dutch,Italian and some other European languages.
Everyone was excited, including myself when the news was leaked out to the press about their recruitment.
After several interviews in Europe and in S'pore, around a dozen girls were recruited. The girls were sexy and most were blondes.
After their training stint in S'pore they were deployed on the European routes flying between S'pore and  London.
They were paid about the same as us in terms of meal allowances and salary. On each B707 flight one of these girls was rostered on the flight.

After about 3 months of flying, there were many complaints from passengers and fellow crew regarding their "tidak apa" and reckless attitude. To give you a few examples, there were complaints about them drinking alcohol on the flight. I had a personal encounter with one of them on a London flight. She was a Dutch girl and I saw her drinking whisky. On a morning flight, one was serving passengers breakfast with goggles on. There was another one who sold contraband cigarettes and another one was caught stealing aircraft tea bags, coffee powder, biscuits etc. from the dry stores compartment. A few were reported late for flights.

After much consideration, the company sacked the whole lot of them. From that time onwards, the company never ever talk about employing such girls.
