Upward Feedback System (UFS)


The UFS is somewhat like a crew appraisal system. The only difference is the UFS is carried out by a junior crew on his or her senior crew on the flight. The company assured the senior cabin crew that the UFS is intended only for feedback on their work performances and would not be used for other purposes like promotion,retirement extension etc. With this assurance, the union okayed the implementation of the UFS.
Many senior crew I met complained to me that the UFS is a "subtle" means by the company to assess their work performances. They claimed it is used to "jam" or block their promotions and retirement extension. Many felt the junior crew are one "up" on the seniors.
When asked what effect the UFS has on them, the seniors replied " we simply be nice to the juniors so we can get  good ratings on the UFS" They claimed the system has caused a drop in senior crew morale as well as the overall in flight service. " No one care about correcting the junior crew these days" one IFS told me. When pressed further, this IFS said with sadness in his eyes..." If we are strict with them, they will rate us poorly on the UFS, so we just close both eyes to the things they do".
Can you imagine if you are the SVP or CEO and the company allows the junior staff to assess you on your work performances?  Can you really function well under those circumstances?
The UFS was totally rejected by us during my time. Our SVP then tried to introduce the system but we discouraged him.

Filipinos can make good crew. Look at Toast Box, Hot Tomatoes etc where the Filipinos make excellent waiters/waitresses and frontline staff.

This system corrodes the fundamental building block of our Oriental culture, which is respect for elders and those in authority. The opposite is now true, that the seniors fear the juniors, and that will lead to the demise of traditional SQ crew culture. The management lacks wisdom to allow the Cabin Crew Division to come to such state of affair. Only going back to basics of showing respect upward in Cabin Crew can save the day.

Ward Leaders are insulated.
They just appear at work and look intelligent.. look only.

Once in a while they say

" you should manage your weight.."

or

" your contract is up for renewal.. please watch your MC.."

The UFS is good!..
Just party along with the juniors.. dont rock the boat..

See how other survive the system.. just follow..

Not here to be top dog crew..
just earn enough to retire like
AM..or AO of yester years..
