SIA Flight Attendant/Cabin Crew Salary and Allowances

Each crew is given $277 a month as transport allowance and $125 a month for uniform laundry. An average of $2,800 in Location Meal Allowance (LMA)and IFA (assuming a crew works 70 to 80 hours a month) is paid to each crew per month. For a new crew the starting Basic salary is $1,340. If you were to add up all the allowances and salary of a new cabin crew it comes up to $4,567.
The above does not include bonuses and gratuities.

BT: The salary of $4,567 for a new crew is my estimate only.

Hi I would like to ask if I would like to become a pilot with the airline, do I have to have a minimum university degree to apply? I've heard that a minimum polytechnic diploma will do. Thanks so much!

Boh Tong said...

This blog is about cabin crew but I think a poly diploma or an "A" Level is fine.

Hi I would like to ask if I'm able to join SIA if I have back problem like a scoliosis (curve spine) ? But my doctor said my spine is alright to work as a cabin crew and I'm able to get a confirmation letter from my doctor as well. Also, the curve of my spine is not really visible unless if look at my back closely. Will this problem matters to SIA even if I have a letter from my doctor ? Hope to hear from you soon and thank you ! :)

Boh Tong said...

SIA doctors will decide not your doctor.

Zac said...

Hi Mr BT,

If I have red-green colour deficiency, does it mean I no longer have any chance to try for SIA as a CC?

Best, Zac

Boh Tong said...

Dear Zac,

It's for the doctor to decide cos I have no say in this this.

Hello, I have been selected as a flight stewardess with SIA from India. The salary mentioned on their website states SGD 3500. Are you sure about the estimation?

Anonymous said...

If SIA says its 3.5k then it shd be.

Is it easier to get in SIA with recommendation even if you dont have a polytechnic diploma but have experience in guest relations?

Boh Tong said...

Dear Mya,One must have the minimum educational qualification to enter SIA workforce. Experience is secondary.

Hi Mr Boh Tong. I would like to ask you if muslim ladies are able to wear hijab while working with SIA? If no, then, do you know if there is any airlines which allows their air stewardess to wear the hijab? Thank you for spending your time replying and reading my comment :)

Boh Tong said...

SIA crew do not wear hijab. I think airlines like Saudi allows.

Hi Mr BT,

I'm wondering when will your next talk/seminar be since the upcoming SIA recruitment will be on 9th Jan? And may I ask how do I go about signing up for it? I have been following your blog for quite some time now and I saw the testimonials from the wannabes that you've helped get in the airlines. I could really use some help from attending your seminar as I am feeling quite lost after failing the interviews twice. Appreciate you taking the time to read and reply me, thanks and have a great day.

Amy

Boh Tong said...

Hi Amy,

I am busy these days so may not conduct any talks. However, if I do I would advertise in my blog www.ourcabincrew.com

Sorry to hear that you've failed in your previous interviews.

You have a great week ahead.

Amy Ong said...

Good Evening Mr BT,

Thank you for such a quick reply. I notice that your next session will be on 4th Jan but there's a maximum of 5 participants only. May I check with you if it's full already?

Amy I will delete the advertisement if I have enough people.

Good Morning Mr Luke, my name is Sarah, if you don't mind I would like to find out if during Round 2 height check will they ask you to take off your stockings?? I wanted to where those very thin (almost translucent) skin colored stockings to look more presentable during the interview, actually if they look closely can see my toe nails quite clearly, its not those thick looking stockings. Hope you don't mind Mr Luke, thank you in advance and have a wonderful week ahead :)

Boh Tong said...

Good morning Sarah,

If you're much taller than 158cm then they may not ask you to remove your stocking. If they think you may have difficulty in touching the tape then they will ask you to remove.

Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Hello Mr Luke, my height is 159 cm and I can reach an arm reach height of 210cm to 211cm. would it still be a problem? if they ask me to remove can I request to go to the washroom to remove it as my stockings go all the way up my thigh and it'll be awkward for me to be removing it in front everyone. Thank you once again for your response Mr Luke, much appreciated :)

Sarah

Boh Tong said...

Sarah in this case do not wear the stockings.

Hello Mr BT, I'm just curious to know if there has ever been any cc wannabe who got in due to recommendation or coz they knew someone from inside SQ?? Thanks in advance (:

Ask SIA lor whoever u are

Hello BT, I would like to find out what happens if you clear all the rounds but in the Kebaya round when they measure your height it is different from your Round 2 measurement (158cm or slightly above in Round 2) and if it happens to be shorter than the required height? Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas :)

They wld take the kebaya rd measurement as final.
Merry Xmas to u too.

Anonymous said...

Hi BT,

I am just wondering, for the skin check round. Do they only look at the skin that the kebaya cannot cover or will they be very stringent about scars? Because i have a surgical scar from my underarm till my elbow, but i'm sure the kebaya's 3/4 sleeve will be able to cover it.

Thank you.
Hope you have a great day ahead!

Boh Tong said...

They are very strict regarding scars. Yours is a 50-50 chance.

Hello my name is Jia Jin, it would very kind of you if you could tell me if SIA would reject me as I have a shoe bite scar/mark on both feet caused by my heels at the back of my ankle??

Hi Boh Tong, sorry for bothering you. I am going to ORD in June and I just went through the medical check up today. How long does it take for them to notify me on whether I am selected?

Boh Tong said...

Cowie most likely they will notify you (if u passed your medical) in about 1 to 3 months time depending on classroom and instructors availability. In your case since you will ORD in June they take a little longer.

Anonymous said...

Hi BT, could you kindly tell how long does it take to receive the "golden call" from SIA if my availability is immediate? Is it the same 1 to 3 months period? Thanks and have a good weekend :)

Samantha

Boh Tong said...

Sam there are people waiting for up to 2 months. Pls be patient unless you hv failed your medical.

Anonymous said...

Sorry BT, just very anxious and the wait is like a mind game in a way.. If rejected means they'll send the letter within the said 2 to 4 weeks is it? But the medical report is the final say or SIA will still decide the final decision after reviewing the medical report? Quite worried BT please don't get me wrong :(

Hello BT, my name is Elangovan and I read some comments on your other blog posts of people saying they received rejection letter after their medical and assumed it could be due to something which happened to them when they were very young. But I was wondering whether could it be because SIA went to do a background check on them based on their employment history or the character referees which is also after medical check up and got rejected due to those reasons?

Boh Tong said...

Hi Elangovan you may be right. Some of these people were rejected because of their declaration although their medical test showed they are ok eg 1 girl declared she had TB when she was a child and even though there was nothing wrong with her during her medical checkup, she was rejected. Which company would wanna take the risk of employing ex TB patients when there are many others who do not have poor medical history.

Anonymous said...

HI BT thanks for your response, it's quite stressful waiting for the response from the company. So if the medical report says fit to fly the company will call you or they will still think about it and consider the decision? Sorry to trouble you BT, just wanted to clear some doubts I had, hope you don't mind. :)

BT, if you happen to miss the "golden call" will SIA call you back again? Thanks in advance for your response and have a great weekend ahead :)

Hi BT,

I have been following your blog for a while. It provides an insight into airline crew world.
Thanks for the information provided.

Recently I learned that my daughter has been provided with more than a month of corrective procedure for safety lapse by SIA. Safety lapse was a tooth paste (>50ML) in carry on bag.

Just wanted to check it is fair for her boss to do this ? If so, it is part of company policy ?

Thanks,
Micheal

Boh Tong said...

Micheal, I am not sure of this procedure. Best is ask her to consult the union and perhaps they can help.

Hi BT,
Hello BT,
I'm one of Taiwanese audience who have been following your blog for a while as well.
Thanks for all the information you've provided so far.

And l have a question about should I go to the walk-in interview in Jakarta? I'm interested in SQ very much! I've read the requirements and it does't limit for SQ citizen or Malaysian/Indonesian. Could I go and have a try?(I do really hesitate to make a decision and buy a ticket to there then they r gonna send me home ><)
If you could answer me,I'll really appreciate!!!

Thanks,
Chelsea

Boh Tong said...

Hi Chelsea, I think the interview in Jakarta is for Indonesians. If you want to take the risk then by all means go and try. They may allow or may not allow you to attend the interview.
If I were in your position I won't for the sake of the interview buy a ticket and fly to JKT unless I happen to be there for a holiday.

Greetings Mr BT,

I have just completed my diploma and i need to wait for approx. 3 - 4 month before i could get my diploma certificate. It is possible for me to still attend the interview with just a verification letter from the school? I am now currently holding on a Higher Nitec and N Level cert.

Thank You,
Michelle

Boh Tong said...

Michelle, you may attend the interview with your letter. However, they reserve the right to disallow you to attend. Why don't you wait until your get your cert and then attend the interview?

Good day Mr Boh Tong,

I went for the interview in January and it has been 2 months since I went for the medical check up, I did not receive any rejection letter up till now.

However I have to wait to ORD in June, can I say that I am safe from being rejected? I have yet to receive the golden call too.

Hi Mr Boh
I went for the Slk air interview last month.I got rejected in the first round itself.First they take height. my height was nearly b/w 157-158 ie less than 158.They told me to wait.then they form a group of 10 candidate and told us to introduce ourselves. But I was uable to answer well due to nervousness.Later they announce the selected candidates.
But iam confused about the reson why I got rejected.
I wonder "Is it because of the height requirement or because of the poor performance?"Could you guide me to clear my doubt? If height is the reason they could have send me back then itself. What is your opinion on this.Is there any way to know the reason of my rejection?

Is there any official contact method for Singapore airline to clarify our doubts regarding latest job posting ,interviews etc.?

Malu: I think they wanted to give you a second chance but your performance must have been bad and that's why they boot you.
The SIA interview is for S'pore citizen only. You may try going for the interview and who knows you may be allowed to attend. However, again your height is the stumbling block.
SIA official platform?? You go and ask them.

Also I have a scar on my knee, which can be hidden under my skirt, however do you think this will pose a problem for me in passing the skin test?

Thank you in advance. Hope to hear back from you.

Hi BT,

You may address me as Ly. Today I was suppose or rather have planned to go for SIA Cabin Crew walk-in interview, but I decided to forgo it because I felt that I hadn't prepare for the interview well. I hope the next time when they hold another cabin crew recruitment exercise, I will be 100% prepared and confident. So, the main question that I would like to ask you is that...
Firstly, should I purchase your eguide today? Because it seems like you will update some things in your eguide again? So, I am quite unsure when would be the best time to purchase it. I hope you could advise me thanks.
Secondly, when the interviewer ask you to give a self-introduction, is it okay to tell the interviewer more about yourself? meaning does the question "self-intro = tell me more about yourself?" And how long must your self-intro take approx? Less than 5 mins?

Thank you! Hope you would reply. :)

Boh Tong said...

LY: you may buy the guide at anytime. The questions you asked are in the guide.

Sometimes I don't understand why some ex cc wanna join as cc, and after they quit they defame about their job so badly online. Such an irony... They should know that being a cc has tons of responsibility and they ought to handle it with grace. I wonder why would the interviewer select them at first lol.

SIA next cc interview is in KL. Stinkaporeans also can attend.

Dear Boh Tong,

I am a cabin crew wannabe, Currently 25 years old, married, and have a son. I attended the recent SIA interview, however, I failed the management round.

Do you think I failed the 4th round due to the fact I have a young son?

I am very disappointed and I hope to try again the next time.

May I know if SIA keeps a record of all the applicant's information and will it be reviewed if in the event of second try.

Also, I read above that SQ is holding a walk-in interview in KL, can Singaporeans attend?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my comment.

Have a good day

Boh Tong said...

Dear Janice: You failed not because you've a son but something else.
SIA may or may not check your record (they do keep). The interview is
now closed. Online application has to be submitted before 21/3. Yes Singaporeans
are allowed to attend the KL interview.

Janice Chua said...

Hello Boh Tong, thank you for your prompt reply, I appreciate that a lot. I will prepare better for next time

Hello Mr BT,

Good day to you!! :)
I actually participated in the recent interview and got booted out in the kebaya round even though my skin/height/weight was all good. The problem was because of my shoulder - one side lower than the other when I was 'cat walking'. The assessor actually made me walk a few times and told me about the problem - her advise was to practice my posture cause it was rather obvious. I am wondering if this problem could be fixed with some adjustments and if I would still stand a chance or is it not worth the try since she didn't keep me in review.

Hope to hear some advice from you, thanks a lot in advance :)

Boh Tong said...

Take her advice and yes don't give up hope since you've reached the kebaya round.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Mr BT, really needed the extra push! Will try to correct my posture and try again :)

Jun said...

Hello Mr. BT,

I went for the recent interview and passed both rounds of the interview and was told to wait for their email to be notified on the date of the next round of interview. However, i am worried about the medical check up, as i stated that my PES status in the application form was C9L9. The PES status was due to a minor slipped disc discovered after my ORD 2 years ago. My questions are:
1. Would they probe why my PES status is C9L9?
2. Would it help if i get my specialist to write a memo to certify that i am fit for cabin crew duties.
As my injury was not so serious that required me to undergo surgery and that i have been actively exercising for the past few years with no recurring symptom of backpain or injuries

I hope the information above would be sufficient for your wise advice.
I apologize for such a lengthy post, and thank you in advance for your time and wisdom.

Regards,
Jun

Boh Tong said...

Jun: to sia any condition is serious. They don't want people who were/are unfit to be their cabin crew. Perhaps, get a letter from your specialist may help and will they call you up?

1) i have some freckles spread around my left forehead and around the eyes. Its not visible from far but it is when closeup. Will they penalise this?

2) My normal blood pressure is 130+ and may be 140+ when anxious or after exertion. Will they reject me because i heard that abit of hypertension they will reject.

3) I have a friend who has a deep cut around his eyebrow and eyes when he was a kid. Right now, there is a visible scar that cannot be concealed fully even by concealor. Will this affect his selection?

Thank you so much for your help.

Later they only shortlisted 3/10. Im 33yr this yr Chinese (somehow i dont look like my age, ppl say i look between 25 & 28). Does it mean I am totally no hope on trying anymore that why I am not selected? I remb you mentioned before unless the one who are very outstanding. However those are called up are Malay candidate. Hello BT!

I am a Singaporean who attended the KL interview last month. I was told by Mary that the result will be known within a month's time upon completion of the medical checkup. It has been a month already and still no news from them, not even the rejection letter. I stated 'immediate' for availability and I hope that the wait will not be for nothing as I have previously heard that rejection letters might be sent out as late as after a month. It's like they may reject you last minute. Will SIA in anyway missed out your application or send the letter to a wrong address or am I likely to be given a slot? Just from your experience. Hear from you soon and God bless!

Regards,
Pam
