Cabin crew interview (SIA) Singapore

Over the last few interviews for SIA cabin crew/flight attendants in Singapore the queue was relatively short. The main reason was the interview in Singapore is only for Singaporeans unlike previous interviews where candidates are allowed from other countries and Singapore PRs.
The new practise may be due to the S'pore government's policy of Singaporeans first when it comes to semi-skilled and low-skilled jobs.

On 13 July there will be another interview in Singapore and my bet is the queue may even be shorter than the one held on 1 June this year. This is good for Singaporeans who aspired to be cabin crew or flight attendants with SIA. The competition is less fierce and the chances of landing the job are better than before.

Another possible reason may due to the anticipated oversupply of cabin crew. SIA is cutting down on its unprofitable European and North American routes and it won't need that many crew.

Whichever way, the Singaporean cabin crew wannabes should be happier now.

Please explain the logic? Oversupply of cabin crew then hold interview so frequently for?

By the way, I predict the queue will be longer than the one on 1 June. Why? Students from all 3 Unis just graduated!

The term "oversupply" is wrongly used. It should be "shortage of crew is less acute" hence less frequent interviews these days.

I was simply speculating and that's why I used the term "another possible reason".

BT, in your honest opinion, do you think SIA is still in need of crew?

Anonymous said...

not only local unis, SIM too and there will be the poly grads still trying.

but not that many uni grads wanna be crew anymore, no?

i love BT said...

what? eng lesson huh?

Sure SIA still needs cabin crew but not as many as before hence less interviews overseas of late.

BT you do not have to explain to that arrogant reader of yours. Few blogger would care to answer question let alone explain.

Maybe more people understand that the politics within is even worse than AHTC and PAP, and decide not to get involved.. seeing the world through the toilet window of your hotel room.. which is next to the airport. Anyway.. air ticket is very affordable now.. so why suffer the 18 hour nite stop trying to squeeze shopping and sight seeing?

But being a stewardess is like ultimate validation for a female... new generation yet archaic ideals... new only with trappings of new media such as smart phones.. brain still disengaged.

many girls only get to know the 'reality' once they go in but cant quit due to bond so they wait 1.5 years and tahan thru. not a great way to fly anymore, go fly with other industries lah.

I'm sorry if it sounded arrogant. That's not my intention. Maybe I could have phrased it in other ways. I'm a fan of bohtong. But I just didn't understand the part where there is an oversupply of CC yet have the need for frequent interviews, and I just wanted it clarified, that's all. Don't so sensitive lah, the 2 Anonymouses above me!

Hi BT!

I have 3 O Level credits and currently pursuing a diploma. I will be graduating in October and will only be getting my cert in January. Am I still qualified to go for the interview this July?

Thanks in advance. May God bless.

I think January 2014 is a little too far off. However, you may try on 13 July and who knows SIA may allow you.

Hi Mr Tan, I would like to ask a question on getting accepted as a SQ FA. I have a Diploma In Financial Management from Kaplan, a private institution in Singapore and I am wondering whether SQ accepts private diploma cert.

Thanks.

Boh Tong aka Luke said...

If it is a recognised institution it would be accepted.

bt, do u know if there are still alot of crew leaving the company every month or more are holding on to their jobs now for the time being?

Boh Tong aka Luke said...

more are holding on

how come sia? thought late last year and earlier this year crew are quitting in large no.

Boh Tong aka Luke said...

Lesser cc are quitting judging by the number of interviews at other countries eg Malaysia,Japan etc.
Moreover, overseas candidates as well as S'pore PRs are not allowed to attend the S'pore interview anymore.
Hope the above explains.

came across your post while I was searching for SIA interviews, I have found out that currently SIA even hold interviews at local polys and they through lesser rounds. as well as, for the recent interview jan 2014 they even allowed malaysian(s) in. was wondering do you know roughly when the next interview would be after the one on jan?

any upcoming interview's for malaysian?
