SIA is not doing well, crew should be considered lucky.....

SIA Group quarterly operating profit/loss (in SGD millions) for the last 14 quarters

Singapore Airlines short to medium term outlook remains bleak as yields and load factors drop again. The cabin crew are still bickering about their flight operating patterns as well having to work harder than before when the airline was doing better. The crew should consider themselves lucky to be employed and at quite a good salary. Those who aren't happy should leave as there are thousands of wannabes dying to be employed.

BT: Do not for once think I am anti SIA. No I am not but I am against certain individuals in the management. I am for SIA because I do not burn the bridges behind me. As for the cabin crew, I will always be there for them. But at a critical moment like this when SIA is not doing well I think the crew should not grumble or bad-mouth the company. In fact, we should stand together and back the company and see that it overcome its difficulties.

Mr BT,
i totally agree with you. I am not the only one "grumbling" and fustrated.
My own humble observations is the mgt splash money at non neccesary things but the cutting measures are only focus at one department -
cabin crew.
So many coffee cups introduce by CCEs, even peanut also use another dish..come out with peanut plastics to warm peanuts..cafe gourmand for paris where as we have no time to even do due to 3hr mandatory rest..all these are money wasted...just like the recent 5m advertising campaign just splash like that...
whereas keep cutting crew....sydney downgrade until dunoo go where..paris stay at some small alleys...fra become 4 days....
do not get be wrong Mr BT..i support your blog..thats why I air my views here hoping one fine day...Mr Tan or Mr Goh will come here and read and know what is happening on ground...
have a great day !

Dear "5 years flying junior" I would like to thank you for your active participation in my blog. I understand how you crew feel about the cost cutting measures taken by SIA cc. It must affected the crew a lot because the crew were used to longer stay overseas as well as getting paid for working less. Now things are different cos SIA is losing out in the game. Bear a little while longer and I bet if SIA makes billions like it used to then cc will be rewarded.

Even if sia make trillions, cc is the last to be rewarded. Thats if cc are lucky enough. So TKK hor ;)

Yes Mr BT,
it is very sad because our National Airline is rotting from within. I was once very passionate with this company like you. However, I believe the mgt from your time are good thats why crew are happy, and when crew all happy, they fight all the way till landing. Unfortunately I have lost faith with the mgt now. Why do I sayu so? B772J cut one crew crom EYCL, JYY JCL Full load 30pax but no top up of crew, it is not we are lazy, I believe CC are one of the most "pia" people around, sometimes it is just too much they way they cut crew complement...work until back injured, they ask why my MC so high..this happened to me personally. One more crew maybe $100 more IFA for long haul and $20 more for TA, they also dont give, I seriously doubt this current mgt.

Thanks BT for your comments that have struck a raw nerve for many. The truth must be told even though it hurts. Reality is more powerful that fantasy. In the same vein, SIA Mgt could take a leaf from the GM of British Airways Singapore, William Roberts who had been reported in the news that he goes on flight on his off days to serve meals and clean toilets. At 34, he must be the firtst angmoh to take this lead.

During YKW's term as SVPCC, he sent our mangagers to the tailor to have uniforms made for them. They were all rostered for flights to see for themselves how CC worked on board. There was one particular flight that I would like to single out. This was a SIN/MAA/SIN sector that terminated at SIN past midnight and had taken place before the no-smoking rule came into effect. This manager had to be propped by CC upon exit. He was a non-smoker, it was past his bedtime and the ordeal was indeed a heavy lead for him to bear. Certainly hope that those at the top are reading this blog and taking the cue from here.
