The lust for money drives him to cheat his crew

Ray's modus operandi is like this: He would invite the crew to his house for a drink and would introduce them to his wife. Then they would arrange a mahjong game.
The whole idea of how to cheat at the mahjong games were already rehearsed over and over again by Ray and his wife. They were efficient and professional. It would take a pro to find out how they go about cheating the innocent victims.
Once they started the session, Ray and his wife would sit opposite one another and they would signal to one another the mahjong cards they need to win the game.
Once the signal was given, either Ray or his wife would open the cards for the game to end. One of them would win the round of games. They played many rounds and at the end of the whole session which may last for a few hours, either Ray or his wife would be the winner. Most of the time, they would make a profit of several hundreds. Many crew had been suckered into losing thousands of dollars to Ray.

During the festive occasions like Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year  etc. Ray would invite many people to his house. After a nice meal, Ray would invite the guests to gamble. They would usually play a game liken to Blackjack or a Chinese card game call "si ki puay".
A professional cheat (Ray's accomplice, not a crew) would be in their midst. He would be the "banker". At the end of the night, Ray would get a 50% share of the loot which may amount to a couple of thousands.

One ex-crew told me he lost $6,000 at one sitting on a Chinese New Year game at Ray's place. Another told me his wife was cheated at a mahjong game. A crew's friend was also cheated of thousands of dollars. The list goes on......

Ray has retired from the airline. He lives in a private property and drives a car. His lifestyle is that of one who is rich. He has been in this cheating game for the last 20 years.

Cabin crew (past and present) beware of this "Ray". I can't divulge more.

BT, This sounds like a crime thriller. There used to be a super conman in Singapore who fleeced hundreds of thousands from innocent victims. He was a lawyer's clerk earning a good salary and in many ways sounded like an Englishman who spoke excellent English.

His wife had an English name and they had two adorable children. One success con drama led to another and as time went by, he was able to live in the best hotels in Singapore with money from his ill-gotten gains.

THEN ONE DAY, HIS NAME WAS FLASHED IN THE HEADLINES OF THE S.T. IT WAS REPORTED THAT HE HAD FORGED THE SIGNATURE OF A CERTAIN POLITICIAN IN HIS APPLICATION FOR A LOAN, AS GUARANTOR. HE EVEN IMPERSONATED HIS VOICE IN A TELECONVERSATION WITH THE LENDER BANK. HE SOUNDED VERY CONVINCING!

The Bank was too good for him. They called the office of this politician for verification, and that was how he was caught. His jail sentence was fairly light and by the time of his release, it had become clear that he was in debt.

Tragically, he and his family were found dead in their home one morning. Gas canisters were found, emptied. This conman had locked his house, turned on the gas and took his wife and children along in a family suicide.

PEOPLE HAD SAID THAT IF THIS MAN COULD HAVE BEEN A TOP CRIMINAL LAWYER. BUT HE HAD CHOSEN THE CROOKED PATH. THE SIGHT OF HIS INNOCENT CHILDREN WOULD HAVE BROUGHT TEARS TO ANYONE.

CRIME DOES NOT PAY! I THANK THE GOOD LORD FOR ALL THAT HE HAS GIVEN AND MY FAMILY GOOD HEALTH, HAPPINESS AND PEACE OF MIND.

Here is a short story :- One night we were having drinks at Chusan Bar and one of my friend who is a lawyer today said that he like to go London to do Law ! Hen stood up and in front of the packed bar said "I will sponsor U" Wow and he took out his check book and signed a cheque for $10k to my friend ! Cheers all round ! BUT at 1am that night he went to my friend's house to collect back his cheque ! That is how impressive & suave Hen can be !

Certainly hope that "Ray" is reading this blog. Have heard of one incident where a senior CC had cheated some crew during a N/S over CKPUAY many years ago. He had many rounds of royal flushes.

Back in SIN, he was confronted and accused of cheating his friends. The confrontation was very fiery and ended that ended with the assurance that someone will be collecting the money from him. But he does not fit the decription of this R guy.
