Latest news on airlines profits, losses and likelyhood of SQ take-over of Tiger Airways

For  AirAsia, 2013 profit fell 55 percent to 364  (S$145) million ringgit compared to a year earlier.

Fierce rival Malaysia Airlines announced last week its fifth straight quarterly loss in the first three months of 2014, reeling from the March 8 disappearance of one of its Boeing 777s.

SIA earned net income of S$360 million for its 2013-2014 fiscal year ended March 31. SIA said in a statement that the net profit decline  "was mainly due to exceptional items and weaker share results from associated companies". Had it not for SCOOT and Tiger Airways' losses, SIA could have make a much higher profit.

Qantas is expected to face a record loss this financial year, with analysts forecasting the beleaguered airline will post a 'loss before tax' of  US $868 million.

THIS IS A WAKE UP CALL FOR SIA TO STOP BUYING STAKES INTO FOREIGN CARRIERS BE IT A BUDGET OR COMMERCIAL AIRLINE. THESE HAVE PROVEN TO BE LOSS VENTURES. NO MATTER HOW CAREFUL WE ARE, THESE HOST COUNTRIES WILL ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING UP THEIR SLEEVES.

IN CONTRAST, JUST TAKE A LOOK AT EMIRATES. THEY OWN A SOCCER STADIUM IN UK. ETIHAD AIRWAYS IS CURRENTLY IN TALKS TO BUY A 49 PER CENT STAKE IN ALITALIA WHOSE OFFER PRICE IS 300MILLION EUROS. ETIHAD WANTS ALITALIA TO REDUCE ITS WORKFORCE FROM ITS CURRENT 13000 TO 4000. GOOD MOVE...ALWAYS LATE IN TAKE-OFF ALWAYS LATE IN ARRIVAL....THAT'S WHAT IT STANDS FOR!

THIS IS IN STARK CONTRAST TO SIA'S PURCHASE OF A 49 PERCENT STAKE IN VIRGIN ATLANTIC AT 600MILLION POUNDS. ARABS ARE GENERALLY MENTALLY SUBNORMAL...THEIR RELATIVES INTER MARRY....BUT HAVGE MONEY...PAY FOR TOP TALENT.

Nobody gives a shit to what stocks you guys are buying. How much can your 1 or 2 lot possibly earn you? It's so typical of all you people. Queuing and asking for currency exchange rates at people's park to change that $50.

I also go people's park to change money sometimes to enjoy better rates, this is how you survive in the stock market as well, look for bargains, if you dont manage your money, money will manage you , good luck

LOL. Same mentality as those LOSERS who bet $5 on World Cup matches and keep reading New Paper for analysis and asking people to update them live score or stay up late to catch the game.
