"Retirement for the CCE was indeed a sad chapter in SQ"...lamented a crew

Well, early retirement for the CCE was indeed a sad chapter in SQ..I have joined SQ in de 90s and has seen de glorious days when SQ crew were highly regarded as world number one crew. Now,we are tired, sad and frustrated bounded by constraints set by the company. We no longer are able to soar like we used to as we have limited resources that are being taken away due to cost cutting measures.
The current adoption of the Inflight Auditor are not making things better.Firstly, most of the IFS are there to serve their term like serving the National Service for 2 years. They have no power,no say in de CC division as they are not even in the mid level mangement. When you appraoch them for help or advice, they often cant do much as their "hands are tied"..Service standards has dropped in recent years and so has the ranking for SQ. CC no longer sets standards but instead has opted to accede to ridiculous request made by their frequent flyers.Memos issued to accomodate personal preference are now a common thing and sevice deviations are more rampant now as each passengers tends to make use of their status to abuse the system. Many a times, service standards are also set by "non flying managers" who dont even know anything and IA are just there to execute and be a messenger..Ranking for SQ is no longer important for the SVPs.They are more concerned about KPIs and profits..Who cares whether you are number one when you are in the red..
The day the old guards left, I saw the downfall of CC..Sad to say, SQ will never be number one again..

Some customers prefer the SQ style:

Lights on
Drinks
Food
Drinks
Food
Long Announcements
Sales Announcements
High fares

Some customers prefer EK style:

Lights on
Short announcements
Food & drinks
Lights off
Lights on
Food & drinks
Lights off
Transit DXB
Low fares

If you like SQ style which is basically disturbing you endlessly to give you perception that you get value for money then go for it

For me, I prefer EK.
They give, close shop and thats it.

SQ target only J & P class market.
EY is boh-pian have to offer.

If your criteria is cost ( which means self paying ) then other airlines better deal.

But if your ticket is paid by someone else ( like business travel ) and the sector, arrival times important, then SQ is the choice.

Overall, SQ service is not exceptional... Delta, Emirates, KLM, Air France, CX, BA, QF is just as good and at times is better.

You see heres the problem as written in the post managemnet only cares about kpi n not ranking. Where as other airlines care about ranking and you see their standards have risen above SQ.
SQ has lost their way and failed to see the reality other airlines have outshine them

Sell all your SQ shares now at $12 plus! Don't wait for it will crash!

"Penny wise pound foolish" Keeping the cces would not have cost more than having the ifs be ia. CC management is small-minded.

Come on lets face it SQ is being run like a typical china man where he skims on every cent. As much as they say they are trying to diversify as long as it cant get in line of their china man thinking it will never work

It was a grave mistake to adopt the American system of running a corporation. We have done away with the traditional mgt heriachy that have served us well and there was no compelling reason to change at all. The CEO style of running comapanies benefits only the man himself and some of his cronies that draw on the huge salaries and bonuses. The fat cats are getting fatter and fatter.

Too much power is placed in the hands of this one person. The British system rewards hard work, benefits community and recognises seniority as well as encouraging workers to stay on. Unlike the MD, hiring and firing is the order of the day. He is always trigger happy and usually walks away with thick pay cheques.

SIA used to have a Managing Director. This key person has a team of Directors that run the various directorates of the Company, as in Finance, Personnel, Marketing..etc. Their functions are clearly defined. I would say that this corporate mgt style is good and is mutually beneficial for the Company, staff and customers.

KPIs, targets and other ambitious plans only serve to fatten the bank accounts of the CEO. It is like taking money from the graded staff to reward the rich and powerful.

Based on what you wrote, I can say you know nothing about management style
