Why let unscrupulous employers exploit you?

Someone spotted this retired IFS working in a local supermarket. Guess how much is he paid paid? $8 per hour! Working as a what? Perhaps he is a general worker doing the laborious loading of goods or perhaps a cleaner. I really don't know. This guy is working to pass his time. I was told he is financially sound and does not need to work in his retirement. In this case, if he does not need the money and since he is bored, he should be doing charity work. Nah! all these people just say they don't need the money and work for fun or to kill time.
Even if you do not need the money, why should you let unscrupulous employers exploit you...for $8 an hour?? You should have some pride and ask for more or perhaps you do not have the skills or qualifications/experience to deserve more pay? I rather be bored to death than to let people exploit me.

Why don't you do something else eg: be a dog walker? I can help create a website or blog for you and get some business.
A dog walker is someone who walk the dog when the owner is away on vacation or business. One hour in the morning or evening and you can earn as much as $50 per dog a day. All you need is an average of 4 dogs a day and you will be paid $200. Besides, walking is a good exercise.
Don't be scared of dogs cos they won't bite or attack you. You may start off with a small dog.
If you do not like dogs, you may be a cat nanny. This simply means you go to the cat's place and feed the cat when the owners are away. You don't have to walk the cat but you would have to clear the poo and tidy up the cat's home. This job pays about $20 per cat per day.

Driving a cab or be a Uber driver is more worth it than working for a supermarket that pays peanuts like in the above retired IFS's case.

As for the current cabin crew, I would encourage you to take up some skills or courses that will help you when you retire from flying (in case if you are "bored".

From the picture he seemed to hunch as most old men do. Frankly he is lucky to be paid 8 bucks an hour of work. If I am an employer I will give 5 bucks only take it or leave it old man!

Thought during PFS, IFS always tell us we are 'professionals' and highly sought after?
Balls to you all.

Like what our dear ministar tan chuan jin say about those collecting cardboard-they do for exercise la

If walking a dog or driving uber is so lucarative, nobody will be collecting plates in hawker centre or collecting cardboard liao lo. Talk cock

Rubbish! People who are financially sound will not sacrifice their ego or 'face' for $8/hr. Most likely its already pok liao and cant last long. Hence lan lan come out work and endure the sniggers from those who know them

Oi. BT dun spout your daydreams here la. $50 a dog n all u need is 4 dogs a day and u get $200. I will glady walk a dog for $10 each and u can keep the $40 as referal fees.
I have friends who tell me all they need is sell 20 of their handmade cupcakes a day and they will break even liao. And in 1 year they will franchise and 2 years be listed in SGX. But after 6 mths they close down liao.
Dream on

Eh BT why u say as if working in the supermart is something to be ashamed of? I have relatives working there so should i be ashamed of them too? Real brainless comment coming from you

Yap brainless comment alright. What is wrong with working in a supermarket.
You may like to know that the going market rate for an hour of work ranges from $6.50 to $8 max and this is what I pay to my employees. Going any higher and against market rate, you will have to fold your biz in no time bec it is not possible to cover the cost. So this IFS is getting a good 1hr rate of $8.
Also advising the young crew to upgrade or go for courses to prepare themselves when they grow old. My take is don't waste your time. What is important here is good financial planning when u r young & retire gracefully.
Now for a REAL TIME take on jobs when u r old: Whether u r a tech/cabin crew or holder of 2 masters degree, no employer will be interested in u my friends when u have crossed the 45yrs old barrier. They can get younger ones with the same degrees at a lower cost.
U will realized yr AGE criteria will override the qualifications/experiences that u may have acquired in Real Time world of ours.
So whether u r a Captain or IFS u r going to face the same hurdle.
Remember this very important phrase: The word is: REAL Time my friend, real time. It is what is happening in actuality not.............

Taxi driving is actually the best job in town after flying. In fact it is so good that the taxi drivers do not want to disclose it to u when u asked them. They will tell u the many negative aspects of it which is a Con. Hehe.
If it is not for the CPF issue (u don't get CPF contribution from the company) so u lose out compared to people working for a company.
It is actually rated as a better then working for people job. U r your own boss and own time own target. Not happy don't pick the pax, u choose.
There is no biz as simple as:once u step into the taxi u starts yr biz. No preparation required. Feeling Sleepy, then just go sleep somewhere. Where can u find a job where u can sleep anytime. Want a day off, just drive back home, no Mc required.
Ah this is the best: Don't let the wife knows this secret ya. A taxi driver can pretend that he is busy driving all day (this is what the Wife thought) but he goes down Geylang Lor 23 coffee shop (hotbed for taxi drivers, when u c Taxis parked there they r having a good time) and sits at one of the table outside the coffee shop and beckon the China girls (Mei née - pretty girl). They come to your table, have a drink with u and if u like them, u book them for $50 and the rest is paradise. Where can u find a job like this....... If yr wife is aware of this trade secret she would object to u being a taxi driver.
If u drive one man show, the car is yours for personal usage, with the COE so high who don't want.
So u see in reality (real time) taxi driving is a fxucking good retirement job, it is better then working for people after flying, no need to see people face dude.
As for how much u make :it is up to you, less play at Geylang/relax/sleep means more take home income or more play then less income but looking at easy $2400 for a moderate driver. Enough already lah, can still go holidays with an income of 2,400/mth.
Don't be a fool, play it cool cool taxi driving is the way to go if u r after 45yrs dude.
Don't waste your time looking for a job lah stupid. Best retirement job even for a captain. Beats working for people, u r your own Boss.

I don't think Bt is saying that it is degrading working in a supermart but rather the ifs who was drawing a bigger salary with sia should not be paid a low salary of $8 an hour due to his experience and qualification. Please don't call BT "brianless" or other derogatory names. You are fortunate that Bt published your comments which I am surprised.

Ifs and crew got what experience or qualification? Most likely O levels or pilferaging experience.
$8/hr is consider too high already. Such people should get $5 a hour with more cctv install to deter them from stealing and skiving.

Now Judge and Anonymous read the u/m properly:

Remember in the real world, Age will override your experience or qualification.
The employer is not interested in whatever you have dude when u are over 45yrs, even if u hve 2 masters degree. Your degrees and experiences are worth zero.
So forget it. Only the govt thru implementation of policies to make employers support and accept the contributions of our experienced citizens can change the situation.
If you are now around 25+yrs of age, u have got only 20yrs to go before u join the
zero citizen at 45yrs. Dont u lose your job once u hit 45yrs, cause u r going to suffer a loss of income even if u can get another job. No employer is going to pay u what u were earning before.
On the lighter side, pilferaging experience is a skill pick up thru the years. This skill is very much welcome in supermarket as a store detective. U are most welcome to apply for the post.

I rly dont think it is that bad to work in a supermkt for $8 an hour for a retiree. To kill time, kill bordom, for extra cash, for food on the table all sounds good. We cannot be simply defined by our job titles and how much or little we earn.
