Interesting observations by a passenger on SYD/SIN

A friend who flew from SYD to SIN last week on SQ WhatsApp me the above observations. My friend didn't want to make a big hoo-ha of the situation knowing that I was once a cabin crew with the airline.
What do you make of the above points?

Latest hot news!

Move over Ah Lians cos SIA gonna recruit girls from the Philippines and Myanmar soon. SG's Ah Bengs are still safe because SIA is grateful for their NS service.

Typical complaint king and whining sinkie. Nobody asked your friend to take SQ. What he expect? Kow tow to him? Convey this message to him-Balls to yoh lor.

Tsk exactly. Toilets dirty blame the users mah sheesh. Why cant in the first place they use it in a more humanly way and clean up their own spills and cant even dispose a tissue paper properly? As long as u get ur food, a toilet with wet basin and tissue paper on the floor and NOT some other shit like a piece of POOP staring at u, some cordial cabin crew, (nvm about those frowning brows some ppl are just born this way. Sometimes u may look like this too but u wouldnt know it urself) some okok in flt entertainment to pass time, most importantly, REACH YOUR DESTINATION SAFELY , BE THANKFUL. dont always think ur money so big lah. Too much comparisons 10 20 yrs ago means u are unrealistic and complains (even the observatory types just might make u an unappreciative being). make urself unhappy only. Like shit spend $1000 on air tix but get this. Focus on the good stuff and the memories of ur trip and other positive stuff lah. Not saying jus ur fren but to the whole mentality of demanding sq pax.

You sq cc should know where you stand as far as the passengers are concerned. Used to be but now living in the past glorious era. Wake up before too late. See now sq is going to hire more foreign cc. Bt's friend is merely providing constructive feedback but I won't waste my time, whatever for? The unrepentant sq cc you will be driving taxis or be waitresses soon.

What makes u think those are cc comments??? Don't assume anything. When ure a cc were u Everyday a TOP notch service provider like every single minute? Cmon lah. We are all humans be more forgiving . And ask ur self are u Everyday the loving spouse, patient parent, caring child to ur parents?? Of cos we strive to be one Everyday but don't think just because you said yes to all u are perfect. If ure from the past glorious era all the more pls don't compare the present and the past. You had it so much easier. The world has changed so pls pls pls for ur own sake move on and stop comparing. And why must u curse?? Is driving taxis and waitressing a demeaning job? It is not as Long as u are making a honest living. What's the problem wif u?

Anonymous said...

GUYS,get ur facts right n know that whether sq cc is doing a good job or lousy job, foreigners will still be employed. Get it? Go and read ur current affairs if u still dont know what im talking about.

The rot has already set in long ago. When you try to teach (thats if you know what to teach), the juniors call you nicknames like siao on or wierdo and ostracise you. Worse, they gang up and frame you for something you never did just to get rid of you.
So, everybody just mind their own biz, do the minimum and collect the pay and who gives a shit about service standards.
Everything just do as per circular, any deviation, just VR or dont get caught. Time will be easier to pass and faster to pass.

If even 2 series buggers can become Chief, what does this say? Their work is tip top and know the tricks of the job? These high flyers are specialist in polishing boots and know nuaght about the job

Anonymous said...

It takes 2 hands to clap. Why are the juniors calling u weirdos and xiao ?

Anonymous said...

Ya ya employ more foreigners lor spend more money to train and employ them then pass the $$$ cost $$$ to consumers see ppl still want to fly sq not. Great job sq.

Anonymous said...

To the anon who said "waste my time whatever for" blah blah u just did HAHA

Anonymous said...

Sydney flt only 8hr not good enuf. Ur fren should observe a 4 sector flt. Cannot sleep one ah. Observer mah lol.

Anonymous said...

The cost of training a foreigner is same as training a local.(they spend same time at stc using same trg materials and same instructor).Employing a foreigner might even be cheaper than employing a local. So what costs is there to be passed on? But the big difference is service attitude which typical local sinkies lacked. Even if it really cost more, SQ would rather hire foreigners than the whinning and ungrateful locals who keep bugging for more and working for less

Now the cc very good wad last time only nice to angmokau (some spg la) now the new ones bagus. unbias.

My dear, sq interviewers must fly to the respective countries for the interviews. Dont u hv to include accommodation/lodging and meal allowances? There is a thing called LEVY which the enployer has to pay for hiring foreigners. Im not sure about other nationalities but the jap crew are paid almost twice as much as the local crew. This is common knowledge. Are u sure that the foreigners have better service attitude? You dare to say all of them better? Not true at all. Are all singaporeans bad service providers? Not true. Well if ur so dam confident that sq wont mind spending more to hire them so be it. Consumers have a choice.

Yawn Ft means levy means higher cost

6 years flying senior says:
good morning Mr BT,
my few cents worth.
I agree with the above comment the rot set in long ago in ASS Q. Basically there are only 2 main camps of crew, the only care about money and the only care about promotion. If you are a leader, how to balance being a motivating leader and yet getting your crew to get the job done? This is why being a leader is not easy, and many are promoted for the wrong reasons
eg play soccer, do charity, alot of comments forms, but does this make you a good leader?
I have encounter a few true good leaders in my initial years of flying but nowadays really hardly can see. Maybe many left and it is ass q 's loss to be honest.

Mr BT, long ago ass q did not recognize SG ah beng for serving the nation la. The difference between serving a nation and a Msian ah beng if I not wrong is $100+ in basic pay only hehehe. 1 year go 2 times reservist, allowance lost more than that lol.....so SG ah beng jialat liao lol hehehehe

Er ok lets get to the main point. So many complains about the sq cc. So what solutions do the complainers hv to offer? Did ur fren offer any mr bt ?? Btw the so called bad service providers are locals or foreigners? In my opinion sq cc is not bad at all but I agree that the leader makes a lot of difference. Are they the humiliating tyranny type or motivating type. Common sense will tell u which set of crew will perform better under the diff leaderships. Latest crew story I heard was just last month a senior said this " everybody has a name for a reason and that's why you are called an idiot" does the junior hv a right to complain. I think he or she has but not sure he did it. What I'm trying to say is leaders pls respect your staff, respect yourself. If u can do this, SIA service will be good. Unhappy with the mgt? Boot lickers? They exist. Just do ur job own job well.. Good luck SIA.

Some european airlines are much better when it comes to toilet cleanliness.
On a full load, AMS-SIN vv, the toilets are never wet, no pieces of tissue or paper hand towels lying on the toilet floor or tops. The waste bins are never full.

I wonder if its the Asian culture of tidak-apa... attitudes of pax.

SQ tries to be different by adding rather than improving efficiency.
Most airlines use 100% disposable tray components. Crew collects trays and discards all that is on the trays into a cardboard box which is loaded inside the cart.
SQ has metal cutlery.. thinking its "atas" and differentiates it from other airlines.
Crew must collect and insert the entire tray back into each runner in the carts. This slows the service down.

And SQ is reluctant to service coffee/tea in paper cups.. again believing that its "atas" to use plastic cups and serve them with ad hoc side trays.
Collecting rubbish using a waste cart is also prohibited... this is non-sense.

In today's world, customers are aware of what they pay for the products. Using a plastic bag to collect waste is perfectly acceptable in the EY. False standards & misguided beliefs set by crew managers who are out of touch from the real world.

It encourages an attitude of disenchantment from precisely the staff that is to deliver enchanting service. Managers do not value employees, they value their own bonus & pay above all else.

Good luck to all operating crew.. my best wishes.

SQ crew culture is becoming more and more American. If the present attitude amongst the junior crew does not improve, then the Company will not think twice about hiring other foreign FSS. The traditional Singapore Girl image has lost its appeal and in its place today are a generation of strawberries who bruise easily. SIA is merely biding its time and providing the necessary ropes for this precious species to hang themselves. Hiring and Firing is the sole prerogative of employers in Singapore.

Anonymous said...

Hey at least one reader gave some constructive comments to all the criticism. Thats right toilets dirty are users fault and the current crew can suggest to their mgt about the disposable stuff.

If SIA rly going to hire too many foreign fss then it will truely lose its singapore gal image. Well what to do our sg gals are gettin smarter and better educated. This is not a life long career for them. We afterall do not want our daughters/gf/wives to be doormats too. Strawberry generation or whatever u like to call them is a first world country problem. Not just in sia culture.

Been observing these comments for a while and notice that there are some commenters who like to "threaten" the crew and some in particular to the junior crew. Idk whther these are genuine SIA crew or ex crew or some big shots like the way they portrayed themselves to be or jus some internet trollers. Idk how many commentors here are parents because if ure not one and have not been one then it is quite difficult for u to understand the attributes and behaviour of todays young generation. THreats are definitely not the way to go if u want these grp of ppl to excel. Older generations could probably accept this and lived thru their whole lives living under fears and threats but not our children. I can sense the problems brewing in SIA and it is sad to read some of these comments. There is so much discontenment and unhappiness. So many threats. People who cannot move on. People who are still stuck in their old glorious past. People who are "out of touch with the real world" as one reader aptly put it. Im not the first one to say that SIA needs to change. Im a singaporean and am so proud of our national carrier and our true blue singapore gals, and boys. If u want them, u have to learn to keep them.

6 years flying senior says:

agreed ...sometimes I wonder, they call the juniors all kinds of generation did they forget they have kids or nephews or nieces themselves?
There are good cultures passed down by the seniors, eg how to respect your seniors, how to handle difficult colleagues or passengers - but they refuse to accept the new generation. Respect goes both ways and earned, not demanded.
How you educate your kids should be how you educate your juniors.
But sadly as agreed with above comments, CC have some in the office that choose to live in their past era.
They cannot stand when crew are using handphones, using facebook, or using social media but this is the world it is now. They still think their currypok hair is in and crew cut is ah beng ah seng hair..can only follow what they believe.

Passengers reading this cabin crew not ur maids and pls maintain in the toilet ah and SIA should help their own ppl when dealt with extremely nonsensical unreasonable pax like no fish to eat throw tantrums??? Hunger strike?? Threaten crew??? Apa ini lah. Im customer customer always come first but cannot reprimand crew when they kena a customer from hell also right . SIA what they hv the ward leader? Must be discernin and wise lah Cannot like bodoh everything just scold the staff. Think ur job so easy meh pay u so much to scold staff.

Hi all, I am the pax with the observations, didn't read all comments here but seems like several people are not happy , basically, I am not complaining, just observations re some crew, that's why I put 'not all' , I still like SQ and would try to always fly SQ if possible, the crew are friendly ,just saying some, not all, lack the service standards of the past, of course these are just observations about some crew,in every good team, there are black sheep, think CC can understand that some of your colleagues are just not up to standard with their jobs, think sometimes wnt want to say about them but sure you do feel that way about some, overall I still think SQ is good, otherwise xiw (ignore this word xIw) as I can't edit on this device when tyre wrongly ,otherwise why will I pay to travel on SQ, so guys, cool down, you op (ignore again this word op) or most of you are doing a good job,.

If only the public knew how much the vice presidents, senior managers, managers are paid.. including bonus, & within their own divisions.

Then perhaps the focus will shift towards managememt rather than front-line people.

Some unbelievable comment..."REACH YOUR DESTINATION SAFELY, BE THANKFUL"? What talking you? If MRT delay, Taxi aircon not working, bus not come in time, etc will you say reach your destination safely so don't complaint? Ultimately pax paid good money to SQ for transporting them SAFELY isn't it? This guy make it sound as though that pax owe it to SQ!! I am sure all other airlines will tell you that their first priority is to ensure pax arrive their destination safely and if this guy represent the attitude of majority of SQ crew, guess we should start flying with other airlines that is more willing to shows some appreciation.

"Too much comparisons 10 20 yrs ago means u are unrealistic and complains"...so if it can be done in the past but not now then what does that imply? 1) the current bunch of crew is not as good as those before them. 2) we must not expect the same SQ standard as before = crew standard drop!?

"So what solutions do the complainers hv to offer" Another strange comment.....How about pax offer to clean the toilet and serve you crew meals ho boh? But in return you crew pay $$ to pax for fly SQ lah, what say you?

Please understand that we are all paid to do our job. If you cannot accept the duties that comes with it then leave. If your predecessors can do it and you cant then that can only mean that you are not up to the standard, not the job or the pax!!!

"Managers do not value employees, they value their own bonus & pay above all else".......err.....so did the crew value the pax or merely value their own "welfare" above all else?

"If only the public knew how much the vice presidents, senior managers, managers are paid.. including bonus, & within their own divisions"....Lets face it, they are holding those position and being paid that amount for a reason. If you think you are can do a better job in those position, then look go work for a company that is willing to offer you lah, what is the point red-eye over those that make more than you?

Anonymous said...

Threats? Do not see any evidence at all. Sounds more like FACTS!

Anonymous said...

Yah dont complain. Dont know who complaining more now lol.

Anonymous said...

Omg why u hate the current crew so much? fierce ):

Anonymous said...

Ooopsies phew ! i believe the current crew is really not bad and can improve with the right support of the mgt and team leaders . i think what some of the ppl here are trying to say is the crew needs motivation too . Not just all reprimands, non supportive leaders, the negativities and unnecessary comparisons. I do know of a very young fss into her 3rd yr of flying. extremely hardworking and gets her fair share of shit. I think there are many young gals and guys out there who want to do well too. You are right to say that they are paid to do their job and the shit that comes with it. im not disputing that but surely some kind words of affirmation wont cost too much ? U may hate to hear this but yes this world is different from the one we used to know. "The only constant thing in life is change" what u could do in the past might not be done in exactly the same way today. But yes u could still achieve the same desired result but a diff method, a diff way . Sorrrzzz if i had made anyone seem like a dinosaur here. didnt mean it this way haha. Wellies to the current crew , keep it up if ur doing well and change if u know u ought to . and rem never stop dreaming just because you had a nightmare and ppl will not stop at putting u down :p have a cheerriofull day yo!

ps/: my england no good too lol
