Leading steward suffered heart attack

Another cabin crew had a heart attack while stopping at an oversea station. He is now in the ICU. He is probably in his late 30s.
I can't get over the fact that there are so many crew getting stroke and heart attack these days. Is it due the work stress or their lifestyles/eating habits?
The population of crew at the time when I left was almost the same as today (7,000). Perhaps, someone should do a study of our cabin crew work/lifestyle/eating habits to determine the cause/causes of the illnesses and take remedial actions.

The 8 are senior people who did these to me:

1. Did not promote me even with my good work record

2. Union people (2 of them in shortie's camp) who pressured the coy to sack me

3. The management staff (2 of them) who kept finding faults with me

4. 2 ifs who falsely wrote bad reports about me

5. Lastly the HR manager who sacked me at a discplinary inquiry

About airline crews in general

The 30 something steward getting a heart attack shouldn't surprise anyone because although he may have been in perfect health when he first joined SQ,his health may have deteriorated for the last 6 years or so because he may have picked up the things listed below.

And although they may review the crew's health from time to time, there is a lapse between the reviews which enables the individual to 'cheat' the test to ensure he passes his medical exam with flying colours so he can stay on the job.

It gets worse if the individual comes from some 'kampung' with little exposure to the outside world prior to joining SQ because he will be more easily influenced.

Likewise, just like many in his position, his circle of friends may include mostly people in a similar line of work,so there is very little incentive to change for the better. This then adds to the already deteriorating state of mind and health.

Poor habits:

Smoking
Drinking
Gambling
Overeating/Undereating
Pornography
Irregular sleeping hours
Taking slimming supplements
Recreational drugs
Excessive shopping

This is something companies are trying to address but it isn't easy for the management because you're not dealing with school kids and some unions are strong. The company can only do so much for employees. At the end of the day,the individual is responsible for his own life. Being close to family and friends who genuinely care about his wellbeing will help him stay grounded.Community involvement via the church or charitable organisations also helps.

Football fans know we've even had young seemingly healthy physically active footballers collapsing on the pitch because of coronary diseases so the crew must be more vigilant.

Anon on hateful 8,

In the first place, why was there a DI? People don't get into that much trouble for no reason. We are only hearing your version of what happened.

Don't blame the management for everything that is wrong at the company. You are responsible for your own actions and dwelling on the past is unproductive.

Don't bite the hand that once fed you.

To the person who try to impersonate me and telling a fake story. Pls do me a favour. If you do not know what those 8 did to me and my closed ones perhaps you might like to keep your mouth shut. Due to the 8, I lost my job. My parents have to collect cardboard and work as cleaners. My wife left me. I dont have money to cure my kid of a life threatening illness and he died at 2.5 years old. I will never forget how those 8 framed me for something I never done

I did not expect to find you here. Everytime you talked about the 8, I suspected it was you. Its been quite a while since you left. I know what you been through and how they framed you. Hope you can let it go. Our gang still looking for you. Perhaps give me a call someday to catch up, will you? Your batchyboy S

What has your parents collecting card boards got to do with you? Why cant you get a job maybe drive a taxi or be a security guard? I remember recently you mentioned 6 people did injustice to you. Prior to that you mentioned 8. Are you here to bullshit us? If you are truthful you should email BT & tell him the names of the "8" and he may be in a position to help you.

Mr BT,

Sounds like your airline's got some spiteful people (existing and former employees).I could be wrong but based on what little I've read, the airline was right to fire the bloke. No company would keep an employee like this. He sounds messed up and if retained,he may influence the others and a company like SQ cannot afford this, not in the current economic climate and competitive industry that SQ is in. Moreover, there are others itching to join an esteemed company like SQ.

I've got no sympathy for such people. We've all got problems but we don't spend time wondering what might have been or how we can get even with those who've hurt us.

Life has a funny way of working itself out. It's not how you start but how you end.The difference is that some of us choose to make something out of nothing rather than wait for things to fall on our lap.

Keep up the good work (blogging about aviation related stuff etc).

Thanks.

BT: You are right, well said cos I cannot re-instate u as I am not the ceo of SIA. What do u mean by saying I will "stir more shit"? Are u also angry with me?

I really feel sorry for you and if there is anyway I can help you get a job, I will. Please contact me thru' my email. The address is at my profile. Thanks buddy.

If u hv kids pls look after their health well and give them sound advises. A lot of young ppl hv diabetes and high blood pressure, high cholesterol nowadays. not just the arlines crew. It is a lifestyle problem. too much processed food, outside food and inactivity.

It would be futile to have a study carried out on the duties of cabin crew and their related ailments that are seemingly affecting the young crew. A wealth of information is available from so many sources. For a quick update on health: In the sixties, the amount of sugar consumed individually amounted to a mere 20 pounds a year. The current level today has been noted as 150 pounds per person annually. Grooming and Health guides provided by Training Centre are a good source of reference for all crew.
