Cabin crew delayed flight at Hong Kong

Yesterday, 5 crew during their long transit at HKG airport left the aircraft to do some shopping. They lost their way and were detained by the airport authorities for questioning. Two of the crew did not have their security passes with them. I was told they shopped for pocket wifi which cost about S$170 in HKG. In SG, it cost $250. Due to their actions, the flight was delayed for 3 hours.

Is this referring to SQ861 departing from HK yesterday? The reason cited was security issue and the whole flight was delayed for more than 2.5 hrs with all passengers going through screening at transit area again. Most of the passengers including me will be very disappointed if the real reason for delay is as such.

Yes it was SQ861 yesterday but still have no confirmation as to the reasons for the delay.
Bohtong is probably right.

We thought that it was due to a false alarm. Now I can understand why the captain was not very specific in his update (sure will create big hoo-hah if he were to announce it if this were indeed the true reason). To think of it, I remembered 3 FSS and 1 FS with sad faces walked pass my seat.

Pardon my ignorance, but I thought the crew will move as an unit because they will depart Hotel in one coach and then head for the gate/aircraft together. This is what I see at the airport usually. If so, does it mean the 3 got permission and will now result in the IFM having to answer as well?

This is a hk turn. Instead of using time to do grd prep for hk-sin, they go out shopping for dongles, mooncakes, wanton mee etc. Goes to show how cbl these crew can be lor.

Of course have to move as a unit like Emirates and other world class airlines.SQ hires too many ill disciplined crew from third world nations so this is the result.

How come my comment not published?

The details of this incident reported in Wanbao. Curious to know what will happen to the crew concerned and whether their superior such as IFM will be affected.

wah.... you mean now HKG turn still got time to go out of aircraft? Last time is like only 1 hr or so in between. Only got chance to sit down while caterer loading meals; then gotta siam here and there for the AIC.

If crew is operating A380-900 aircraft, is mandatory to have minimum 1 hr 45 mins on ground, as the aircraft required that time frame for cooling down the landing gear before the next flight, this is very obvious as previously SQ12/11 turn in both LAX & NRT, when SQ12/11 was on B747-400, the aircraft will normally arrived back SIN at 1 am, when they change the airframe, the arrival into SIN was 3 am.

Thanks for clarification. I’m senior citizen lor! Left 15yrs ago before A380 was in the fleet.

The A380 only uses reverse thrust on 2 engines thus the stress on the wheel brakes are greater. Airbus initially wanted to do away with thrust reverser to save weight but FAA will not certify the aircraft to be airworthy. That’s the reason for minimum time required on the ground to allow brakes to cool.
