The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It seats 210 to 290 passengers, depending on the variant. Boeing states that it is the company's most fuel-efficient airliner and the world's first major airliner to use composite materials for most of its construction.According to Boeing, the 787 consumes 20% less fuel than the similarly-sized 767. Its distinguishing features include a four-panel windshield, noise-reducing chevrons on its engine nacelles, and a smoother nose contour. The 787 shares a common type rating with the larger 777 twinjet, allowing qualified pilots to operate both models, due to related design features

Looks like flying a jet plane is easier and safer than driving a Ferrari, isn't it?

I once tried flying in the simulator under the supervision of a trainer. I was able
to take-off,cruise and land at the old Hong Kong Kai Tak International Airport successfully. It was fun really.

Please do not pay attention to the quality of the singing. This is a song about a cabin crew hopeful who was rudely told to stop smiling by her interviewer. We fully understand it's tedious and tiring conducting interviews on weekends especially after having to work during the weekdays. But do have some consideration for the wannabes who queue up for hours just to be interviewed ( many only for the first round and get booted out after a few minutes).

The said wannabe was not my student or participant before she attended that interview. After the failed interview she wanted to meet me and I agreed. She told me her problem with the interviewer.
I found out a few weaknesses about this young lady.She asked me to tutor her so she could get the job she badly wanted. I managed to change her attitude and mind set towards people. I started by telling her the job of a cabin crew is to please people and in this particular case, she must have irritated the interviewer by saying something that displeased him.
She was like a raw gem which need to be polished. After the session with me she applied for the job again. This time she was successful. She is now flying with a reputable international airline which I will not named, at least not for the moment.

SIA share is up 22 cents to $10.58 as at noon today on a light volume of 690,000. What's going on huh? Ah Phong doing something good for SIA? Hope so la cos the prices have been declining for the last 1 year from a high of $16.
Let's see how the share price is when the Singapore market closes this evening.

Upward Feedback System (UFS)

The UFS is somewhat like a crew appraisal system. The only difference is the UFS is carried out by a junior crew on his or her senior crew on the flight. The company assured the senior cabin crew that the UFS is intended only for feedback on their work performances and would not be used for other purposes like promotion,retirement extension etc. With this assurance, the union okayed the implementation of the UFS.
Many senior crew I met complained to me that the UFS is a "subtle" means by the company to assess their work performances. They claimed it is used to "jam" or block their promotions and retirement extension. Many felt the junior crew are one "up" on the seniors.
When asked what effect the UFS has on them, the seniors replied " we simply be nice to the juniors so we can get good ratings on the UFS" They claimed the system has caused a drop in senior crew morale as well as the overall in flight service. " No one care about correcting the junior crew these days" one IFS told me. When pressed further, this IFS said with sadness in his eyes..." If we are strict with them, they will rate us poorly on the UFS, so we just close both eyes to the things they do".
Can you imagine if you are the SVP or CEO and the company allows the junior staff to assess you on your work performances? Can you really function well under those circumstances?
The UFS was totally rejected by us during my time. Our SVP then tried to introduce the system but we discouraged him.

Please do not click on their links as they may contain phonographic stuff which will infect your computers. I think this spam mail is machine generated.

Welcomed onboard with a smile and professional attitude. Offered Dom Perignon that arrived with some nuts. Before leaving the gate the Champagne was topped up. There were 4 of us travelling in first class. After departure the crew served drinks within 10 minutes of being airborne. Given flight suits, amenity bag, slippers and eyeshades. The first cabin is warm and comfortable and the individual suites on 777-300 ER are very comfortable and offer sufficient room. I was told they would servie the initial lunch 90 minutes after departure or I could eat when I wished. Service and food was of excellent quality and quantity. The crew on both legs of the long haul from SFO-ICN and the continuation to SIN were very engaging and professional. Another full meal started with Satay and proved to be too abundant to finish. The continuation to SIN from ICN, again another full dinner. Only disappointment was the lack of first run movies on Krisworld.

Do you ever wonder if you were to suffer a heart attack on a flight who is capable of helping you? Many may think the cabin crew or a medical doctor could help. But does it ever occur to you how many times would a doctor be available on the flight? Most of the time,there will be zero doctor on board. So under the circumstance, the patient would have to depend on the cabin crew. The question now is how well are the crew trained to handle such a situation? My answer is most aren't capable of assisting the patient. Then what is the solution? There may also be other cases eg. epilepsy,fainting,coma, coughing blood, giving birth etc. Certainly, most crew would have limited knowledge and skills to assist these unfortunate passengers. In my opinion, the airlines should employ cabin crew with medical/nursing skills. Perhaps not all cabin crew should be ex nurses but at least one should be available on each flight. I notice that many in the nursing profession who were interested in becoming cabin crew were not recruited during the interview. I am talking about qualified nurses who are keen to be cabin crew.

What happen if there is a security issue on the flight? Don't you think the cabin crew should be trained in some kind of martial arts to handle the rough and unruly passengers? The security training the crew receive at the moment is insufficient. Many with martial arts skills applied to be cabin crew were also not selected.

Times have changed. Most passengers aren't interested with having good looking crew serving them. They want to feel safe and secure on their flights.

My suggestion is to recruit people with nursing and medical skills,people with martial arts skills, policemen and women, firemen etc. Of course, these people should also be selected because on their good personality, ability to please and serve, having good team spirit etc.

you have to put through. And that’s why they say these jet setters are the Top 3 Most

Spoiled Girlfriends in the World. If you’re in a relationship with one: man, we give it up to

you…. And If you’re planning to have one:

Be prepared, Be very very… prepared.

1. Do Not expect her to drive the car. She’s most not likely to have a driving license, she’d

say “Babe, I only have a passport.”

2. Familiarize yourself with SKYPE, YM’s. VoIPs. She worships those amazing discoveries.

3. DO treat her like a princess before she can treat you like her king. Get ready for

statements like “Buy me food, or else Ill break up with you!”

4. DO NOT be surprised if she wants you to take several shots of vaccines: Hepa B, Hepa

A, Meningitis, Yellow Fever etc. etc.

5. Stay away when her roster comes out. That’s the next worse time to PMS.

6. BE grateful of her smile. You get it for free. IN the skies, it’s worth 6 digits.

7. BE READY to see yourself 5 to 10 years from now. She wants a man who knows his

direction.

8. DO give importance to time, preferably Military time. 21:16 is NEVER the same as 21:17

9. DO NOT wake her up when she’s sleeping, even if you wonder “ she must be hungry after

sleeping 18 hours already!” Again, LET her wake up by herself.

10. DO NOT mess with how she arranges her suitcase. Boots are for Boots sack,

shampoos are for toilettries, undies are for undies bag and so on.

11. DO NOT expect her to remember names of your friends in one sitting.

12. DO NOT accuse her of bragging when she says she went to Paris for Coffee or just hit

the gym in Berlin. She’s just plainly, innocently telling you a story.

13. Do not get intimidated by the beautiful men around him, chances are she’s already used

to/sick of seeing hotness in form. Those men have lost their beauty.

14. DO NOT call her on the phone when she’s on Standby. DO NOT… ever.

15. Do NOT question why Half of the dresses in her closet has never been worn, and she

still complains, she doesn’t have anymore.

16. Do Not remove any clothes you think is too much in his suitcase, remember: she has four sets of outfit in her suitcase: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Fall.

17. She expects you to learn how to read an Aviator watch.

18. And when she gives you that expensive Aviator watch, Do not Ask her: “ what time is it

yes even over the caviars in first class cabin.

22. Understand that discovering a designer dress on the clearance rack can be considered

a peak life experience.

23. Make sure of the inaccuracy of your bathroom scale.

24. Remind her which country she is in first thing when she wakes up in the morning

25. During dinner, when she asks you whether you like chicken or beef… Oboohooy! you better think fast!

26. Begin to be scared when you oversee a long line in Immigration, she has zero tolerance on airport queues.

27. Work your muscle for a trip together, you’ll be carrying at least four baggages for her. A

Gucci make-up bag, a Paul Smith, a World Traveller Trolley, and a Burberry Laptop bag at

least for a Domestic Flight.

28. A bouquet of flowers is THE if not, THE ONLY way to say “I missed you” when you pick

her up at the airport.

29. Prepare yourself for her jetlag, otherwise known as the PFS or the POST Flight

Syndrome. You should be awake when she is and asleep when she is . You don’t want to

see a whole 72 hours of tantrums.

30. And lastly, it might seem like she thinks she is overqualified for love. But DO remember

that in reality, she feels like she is just an ordinary girl standing in front of a boy, asking

him…

In the "Life" section of today's Straits Times,there is an article of this lovely couple cabin crew of SIA. Both Irene and Allen were my ex colleagues. The top picture shows Allen and Irene as young cabin crew (in their 20s) and bottom one was a recent picture.
I understand they had sold off their multi-dollar house in the East Coast and immigrated to Canada. All the best to Irene and Allen and may you both enjoy your retirement.

The crash instantly killed the 31-year-old Ferrari driver, Ma Chi ( a wealthy Chinese national), while the taxi driver and its passenger, a 41-year-old Japanese woman, died in hospital a few hours later. A commercial B747 at cruising altitude of 35,000 ft would fly at between 700 to 900 KPH. This Ferrari was speeding at 110 KPH. Can you imagine the impact of the jets that crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center of New York City about 12 years ago? details here
