Why would the crew offload (stealing) aircraft liquor in spite of the risk of being caught and dismissed from the company?
In my opinion, these are the reasons:
How were the crew caught?
In my opinion, these are the reasons:
- It's free of charge
- Easy access to the a/c bar
- Poor accounting practice
- Liquor is very expensive
- The crew is an alcoholic
- One could also sell them to a pub/bar at outstations (100% profit)
- The risk of getting caught is very slim ( less than 5%)
- It's convenient to put the bottles in one's bag than to go out to the shops and buy them (convenience)
How were the crew caught?
- Sometimes SQ arranges with the overseas authorities to let them apprehend the crew
- Other crew reported to SIA about the offloading
- Crew apprehended by custom personnel
