SIA cabin crew interview

Singapore Airlines is embarking on an aggressive recruitment drive for cabin crew or flight attendants in Singapore as well as in other countries. Below are the oncoming interviews:

  • Singapore on 26 April 2014
  • Shanghai  on 12 April 2014
  • Jakarta     on 12 May 2014
  • Tokyo      on 12 & 13 April
  • Korea       in May 2014
The question many people are asking is "why so many interviews?". I can think of three reasons :

1) SIA cabin crew turnover or attrition rate is very high. Around 1.5% to 2 % of the crew leave per month. There are currently about 7,800 cabin crew inclusive of foreign crew. Taking the average of 1.75% of the total workforce leaving will give us the figure of 136.

2) Network expansion.

3) Increase in flight frequency.

Reasons for leaving:
  1. Expiry of work contract
  2. Resignations
  3. Dismissal
  4. Others

At the last interview in Singapore (15 March) there were 1400 applicants out of which 400+ were short listed for the final round on 16 March at SIA Training Center. I understand about 100+ were recruited.

The next interview in Singapore will be on 26 April.

Hi Boh Tong

I went and passed the recent interview on 15th March, and have gone for medical. You mentioned that 100+ were recruited but I have yet to hear anything after my check-up. I have no medical records as far as I know. What does this mean for me?

I'm super anxious about this. I hope I hear from them soon.

In any case, have a good weekend and thank you for your time and attention!

Please be patient and wait for the call.

Hi Boh Tong, i had previously gone for the SIA cabin crew interview in March. i actually made it pass all the rounds of interviews but i failed the medical test. do you think it's advisable to call them up and ask why ? or to appeal by doing another round of medical checkup on my own ? please advice. thank you !

It's no point calling them because they won't entertain your call. Forget about being a cc with SIA as you have failed your medical. Consult your doctor and make sure your health is fine.

Thanks for the advice Boh Tong! but I heard that some people have ever tried appealing even after failing their medical checkup and they actually got in after that. Thus, that thought.

Hi Mr BohTong,

1. i wonder if you could do a post about returning crew procedure?

2. Anyone to share experiences on the interview process from anyone who has returned recently?

3. Is it true that normal crew who are returning much tougher to get through than returning mom ?

Thank you!

"excrewloveflying"...I am sorry I've missed your questions out.

To answer your Q1, returning procedures for cc is different now and I am not familiar with them.
Q2: It's diffiuclt to get people to relate their experiences
Q3: I dun think so bcos SQ may take you back so long as your work & medical records are good.
