A profitable 2016 and Qantas CEO's challenge

After a huge loss in 2014, Qantas resort to laying off thousand of its employees in a restructuring exercise that saw a big profit of A$1.4 billion for the year 2016.
Now CEO Alan Joyce of Qantas has challenged Airbus and Boeing to build airplanes that can fly from Sydney to London, Brisbane to Paris etc with a full pax load over a distance of more than 16,000 km nonstop or 20 hours flight time. If any of the company could build such a super ultra-long-range airplane, I am sure Qantas will be the first to place an order.
