COE for cars over 1600cc has hit the roof!

The above is for June COE. It has crossed the S$100,000 mark for the first time since 1994. For S$71,000 one can buy a new Mercedes 200 in Japan (pic below).

What's your take on the subject?

This comment made be SAD :-(

 Hi Boh Tong

I agree to large extend that a former RI like youself shouldnt be steward/CCE for 35 years straight shouldnt be the norm.

Usually, people from elite schools such as yours tend to gravitate towards management positions in MNC.

Though its okay to do it less than 5 years for experience and use it as bragging rights, do it for lifetime seems a waste of potential opportunities outside of flying.

When we're old, we can only look bad and wonder "What if..." this and that. Life shouldn't be flying for life.

Theres more to it.

SIA cabin crew job is safer than PMETs

"This is even after he began applying for jobs that offered about S$2,000 a month, which is less than half of his S$5,900 monthly paycheck prior to being laid off.

At 49, Jeff (not his real name) has been written off by potential employers as “too old, too expensive and too experienced”."

More here

BT: I rather be a steward because at 49 I would most likely be a IFM (Inflight Manager) and SIA would most unlikely find me “too old, too expensive and too experienced”.
So what is this guy talking about? ....read here

Comments about me & my blog

I have been blogging for the last 16 years and have received negative  as well as positive comments about myself and my blogging. Some comments sounded personal and hurtful but I weathered them all. Let's have a look at those comments. Btw the comments were made in 2014 which is about 8 years ago. Examples of a few comments are below:

" Heard you were from RI and your classmates are doing well but you are one miserable

RI boy who spent your life flying as a steward. A big disgrace to your former school"

" I am addicted to your blog and must check it everyday, twice a day"

" I don't know why I must read your blog everyday"

A comment worth reading by a reader (part 2)?

So, on your 5th year, you decided, enough lah.. and you resign...

This is the compensation for your youth, time and exclusive employment
with the company.

Flight Stewards/Stewardesses
(i) Completion of first 5-year contract - $10,000
(ii) Completion of second 5-year contract - $25,000
(iii) Completion of third 5-year contract - $2,500

Assuming you began employment at 20 years old,
you would be 25 years old.

What have you acquired that you can write, say about you work
as a flight attendant?

Some things:

1. Say sorry
2. Say Good morning, evening, afternoon.
3. Shout.. "Unfasten sealbelt! ... come this way!"
4. Smile ( sincerely)
5. Bun your hair in French, Chinese, Japanese style
6. Paint your nails really well.
7. Know where Gucci, LV, Prada, shops are in each city.

and perhaps much more... ( but not quiet useful to other employers )

Meanwhile, your college friends joined Siemens, Google, Marina Bay Sands Hotels,
Amazon, LTA, NParks, etc..

What would they have acquired that is different from a flight attendant?

Some things:

1. Ledgers & propriety softwares
2. Booking platforms & logistics softwares
3. Cloud computing
4. Social media management
5. Events management
6. Business challenges
7. Networking with like minded people in different industries

Of course, there are people who might not want that type of working
environment or pressure, and will get accustomed to a life of checking in and out
of hotels, and wait for rosters to be published... with apprehension about how many
Indian flights, Manila flights, or turnarounds.. and wonder if they can attend their mothers birthdays...anniversaries.. spend time with their pets that require attention..etc..

Leaving after 5 years, you might have time to relearn or update skills that are required
to earn a living. Leaving after 10years is going to set you back plenty. There will always be the exceptional few. But by and large.. plan your path... during your moments of quietness in your hotel room, contemplate, evaluate, calculate... because the company
is not your friend, but a business. It will decide based on their business needs.

Currently SQ is in debt and will be for some time ( 5 years or more ) Ignore all the reports about how well they are doing and ignore all your flights being full. They will not miss you one second if you should ever leave them.

Flights will still take off, the service will still be completed, and the company will still receive praise.
