The Prisoner
Refering to Singapore Airlines SQ006 crash in 2000.
SIA have removed SQ006 permanently from their timetable. The flight number
is now replaced by SQ030. The return flight of SQ005 is now SQ029.From now on SQ006 is history. The flight number were changed after SIA investigating team and management found something spooky happened on SQ006 final flight.
If you recall, exactly one year before the date that SQ006 crashed, there was a Taiwanese SIA stewardess who was murdered in the SQ hotel in LA. The murder suspect was her fellow colleague, an Eurasian guy.
remember??
Her naked body was dismembered and hidden in a cupboard. Do you know that she was wearing red when she was flown back to Singapore on SQ005 via Taipei and wore red when she was buried. Her mother wore red too to receive herbody at Changi Airport.
Exactly one year (31 October) later on her death anniversary, the SQ006 plane crashed in Chang Kai Shek Airport. Coincidentally, this was also the day the Eurasian steward was released from prison.
The SQ006 TPE>LAX sector was schedule to leave TPE at 10:55pm. As there was an approaching typhoon, SQ006 captain and flight officers decided to board the plane and depart 15 minutes early. The L1 and L2 doors were not closed till 10:55pm (the original departure time). Reason being the number of pax do not tally with the passenger lists in economy section.
One of the junior stewardess counted 5 times and advised her colleague that she cannot tally the pax in the economy section. Both
of them then counted the pax again and confirmed an extra pax in the cabin.
When they recounted the pax with the chief stewardess again the number of pax were
correct. The junior stewardess advised her chief stewardess that one of the lady
pax sitting in 40A (front section of the economy class) was not there and they cannot locate her in the lavatories either.
The flight gets push back as schedule. The two junior stewardess were among the casualties in SQ006 and none of the pax in the front economy section survived the crash.
The chief stewardess suffered slight injuries as she was sitting in the business class section.
While preparing the flight for LAX in the business class section, one of the
male inflight supervisor who can "see things" happens to see a lady flipping
through the pax listing which was placed on one of the first class cabin table. As there were cleaners in the cabin vacuuming, he did not shout to her, but when he walked to up the first class section, there were no signs of this lady. The male inflight supervisor was among the survivors
unscratched as he was sitting in the back section of the economy class.
This story was brought up during an investigation interview with
the SQ006 crews. There was suspicion that the murder a year ago could have involved
more than one person but they were let off.
It was belief that the (Eurasian guy who is also an SIA steward) accomplices could have been in the SQ006 flight. It was understood that one of the male inflight stewards who died in this crash is a buddy of the Eurasian guy.
The flight number was immediately changed after this interview.

Trainer Jim and his girls
During the session on "How to address your first and business class passengers",Jim told the class of new stewardesses the way to address a married couple for example by the surname of Lim,was Mr and Mrs Lim. If they have a child travelling with them, it would be appropriate to address him as Master Lim.
The trainees nodded with understanding and when Jim asked one of the trainees how would she address the Bates family, her reply was Mr Bates and Mrs Bates. "Correct" replied Jim and he asked another trainee how would she address the son who was travelling with Mr and Mrs Bates. Without hesitation she replied "Master Bates"..Oops!

Strange behaviour of a trainee
Rose was behaving strangely from the very first day of her training, her trainer Jim noticed. She was not sociable and did not mix or chat with the other trainees in the class.
The first day was always the day of excitement for all trainees, whether they be guys or girls. That's the day they got to know the staff, trainer, the entire cabin crew setup etc. By morning tea-break,all the trainees in the class averaging twenty in all, would be familiar with each other.
After tea,the girls were back in the classroom, chatting noisily away with each other...but not Rose. She was absolutely quiet and nervous. When asked to do a self introduction of herself, she could only managed with a few sentences of singlish, much to the amazement of her classmates.
Rose had a poor command of the English language and did not have a cut of a stewardess. She was sloppy in her dressing and even dozed off on the first day of class when her trainer Jim was giving a talk about the management hierarchy in Singapore Airlines.
A few days later a fellow trainee pointed out to Jim that at the stewardess interview, she remembered clearly Rose was a chatty and friendly person. Her spoken English was good but now in the classroom,Rose was a different girl.
Another class girl also reported to Jim that she too remembered Rose to be a bubbly and talkative girl and they sat next to each other in the same bus on their way home.
It was strange according to this trainee that Rose could not remember her now,let alone the conversation they had and the bus ride.
Jim noticed that Rose not only had body odour but bad breath too. This was also an observation of the fellow trainees. Rose had armpits full of unplucked hair and to make matter worse, she liked to wear sleeveless blouses to the class.
Jim repeated spoke to Rose about her weaknesses and tried to help her but to no avail.
Rose did badly in her studies and failed her basic examinations repeatedly and was asked to leave.
There was speculation among the trainees that Rose had a twin sister and had stand-in for Rose during the stewardess interview.
Was there a loophole in the interview process?...did the interview clerks really always have a good look at the candidate's face and compare to her photo in her identity card?....hmmmm maybe they did huh. Perhaps,Rose had a dual personality and the bad one took control of her being while she was undergoing her stewardess training.

At the stewardesses interviews.
At an interview in New Delhi,my ex- SVP asked a charming Indian female candidate why would she want to be a flight stewardess with Singapore Airlines.
"Sir, SIA is a reputable and a great airline to work for" was her reply.
Thinking she was trying to "curry favour" the SIA interviewers with her reply, the ex- SVP told her " now don't give me that rubbish".
"But sir, this rubbish is all over India" came the swift replied.
The young lady got the job.
A local female candidate was asked why would she want to be a stewardess. Her reply was,"I want to improve my horizontal!"
Yet another one told the interviewers,..." I want to expose myself ".
A young lady who was unsuccessful, confronted the interviewer and asked him whether it was because she was ugly that SIA did not want her. The fact was this lady had been unsuccessful over the last six attempts was due to her looks (she was really ugly with some of her teeth jutting out of her mouth).
My ex colleague, the interviewer told her she was a pretty girl( of course,he knew better than to agree with her that she was ugly) but it was something else that bothered him to which she unashamedly retorted .." I know why you did not select me sir,it is because SIA don't recruit pretty girls, isn't it?....SIA seems to think that beautiful girls are somewhat arrogant and not humble enough".
When an interviewer asked the Ah Lian looking candidate what did she have for her lunch. Her reply was "Lice with veggie table and lan cheow pork!"
A lady candidate in Beijing was asked if she could have her hair done nicely if she was recruited as a stewardess,to which she nodded in agreement and told the interviewers she would fix her "mop".
An ex-colleague of mine (ex-CCE)who was an interviewer has this to say:
I asked one before " You mentioned you like to read. So what do you normally read?"She answered, "I read the dictionary"......*gulp.
The same ex-colleague submitted this yesterday:
I always enjoy looking at the candidates who say in a very boring and monotonous tone (without any smile) that "I'm actually a very friendly person"
Oh really?

The kindness of SIA staff and crew
Over 100 staff have volunteered to participate in projects with the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled (MINDS). The wives of 14 expatriate pilots also sewed several "Friendship Quilts" which were raffled for MINDS, which is SIA's adopted charity. The SIA Community Service Club actively works with MINDS Youth Group in organising weekend activities and other social events. It is also active in community work with old folk's and children's homes. As part of their training curriculum, SIA cabin crew trainees have to participate in community service. Last year, seventeen batches of trainees visited seven MINDS Employment Development Centres and seven old folk's homes. The Lions Home for the Elderly, Sree Narayanan Mission and the Society for the Aged Sick were among some of the old folks homes visited. The Cabin Crew Division held its annual Senior Citizens Party on 13 November last year at the SIA Training Centre. A total of 146 senior citizens from the Toa Payoh, Hougang and Ang Mo Kio befriender Groups were invited. The honoured guests were treated to a sumptuous meal, lively entertainment from the cabin crew. They were each given an ang-pow and a gift pack. These were put together through donations from the crew.

Job enlargement for cabin crew?
Future cabin crew would have to be equipped with some kinds of entertainment skills before being employed.
Can our current SIA girls be sent back for training on how to entertain passengers on the flight like this one in the video.
Contact me airlines if you need me to teach your crew how to be magicians, singers, comedians, masseurs,jugglers,etc...in short, how to keep your passengers occupied and entertained during those long and boring flights.
I offer 3 months free trial and after that money back guarantee if your passengers are not satisfied.
FH appealed against his dismissal.
Through the Airline Executive Staff Union,FH launched an appeal against his dismissal from SIA,citing the loan given to him was a personal matter.
FH was dismissed because as far as SIA was concerned,it was unethical and wrong for a senior staff to borrow money and worse still, did not pay back his subordinate,Sue.
After some hassling between the union and SIA,the matter was referred to the Ministry of Manpower.
After looking at FH's case,MOM advised SIA to reinstate or compensate FH for the loss of his job. Of course,SIA would not want to rehire FH as he was no "angel" too.
As a compromise, SIA generously compensated FH with about $170k. However, when the Union asked for the annual free tickets for FH,a privilege enjoyed by retirees,SIA refused.
SIA has the right to refused giving FH the annual foc tickets because he did not retire but sacked with "compassion".
Please note, SIA with constraints from its shareholders is still a compassionate employer and even paid errant crew in the past, with thousand of dollars who had committed offences like molestation of stewardesses by male crew, theft, high "casual" medical leave etc, after dismissing them.
In my opinion, those bad apples should be handed over to the police and let the law deal with them.

Hell hath no fury.......
The saying that "hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn" was very applicable to my ex colleague, FH when got into some kind of involvement with a stewardess.
FH was a bachelor and had no intention of shedding his status.
Well when he met stewardess Sue,he was fascinated by her looks. Sue was a Chinese national and somewhat sexy with her plastic breast. She was fair skinned and had a complexion that was as smooth as silk. FH was 48 and Sue was 26 years of age.
FH was a fierce lover and extremely choosy with the his bed partners. For him, Sue was a special attraction. FH 'worked' his way up to bed with Sue in a matter of days after flying with each other for the first time.
Sue was also a passionate lover but her priority was not to get emotionally involved with anyone. She had a few motives for joining the airlines and one was to make as much money as possible using her sexy body to lure any man who could afford to pay her for her 'services'. The other motive was to acquire a Singapore PR.
FH was a gambler. He loved betting on horses and footballs. Getting married and sex was usually not in his mind. He loved the thrill of winning on whatever he gambled on. He needed the adrenaline that pumped his heart everyday, without which he would have felt listless and lethargic.
At one stage,FH lost so badly in gambling that he became indebted. He owed banks, finance companies, loan sharks and colleagues by the hundred of thousands.
Then he met Sue. They both became intimate and one day,Sue suggested to FH that if he were to marry her,she would "present" him $100k. All she wanted was to get a Singapore PR and what a better way than to "marry" FH. There was a condition imposed by Sue and that was ,they would not be living under one roof for she needed"privacy". She needed to service her male clients . FH agreed to the condition.
They approached the registry of marriage in Singapore. There were some complications in their case for Sue was married in China. Sue,at first told FH not to tell the marriage registry about her marital status.
Afraid of being prosecuted by the law if found out to be lying,FH refused to co-operate with Sue.
In the end,Sue came back from China with documents from the "relevant" authorities in China, stating she was a divorcee.
The Singapore marriage registry refused to recognised the documents as legal and that resulted in Sue being unable to "marry" FH.
On failing to get married,Sue asked FH to return the 100k he took from her.
Meanwhile,FH had used Sue's money to settle part of his debts.
There were frequent quarrels and fights between the two.
One day, Sue wrote to the CEO of SIA accusing FH of cheating her of her money. FH was eventually sacked from SIA............to be continued

Steward Vandalised Crew Executive's Car (2)
Jr reported the matter to the director of cabin crew about the threats made by Hoe and vandalism of his Mercedes. On the advice of DCC,Jr made a police report. DCC had also instructed his managers to set up a disclipinary inquiry and sacked Hoe if was found guilty of the allegations.
When Hoe received the letter informing him of the DI,he panicked. He desperately tried to contact Jr and asked him to squash the matter. He pleaded with Jr and asked for forgiveness. Hoe was willing to compensate Jr for the damages done to his car.
Hoe was the breadwinner of the house. He had an aged mother and a house mortgage to pay. Besides,he was planning to get married to a stewardess and without a job,it was unimaginable,he explained to Jr. His fiancee was supposed to quit from SIA and pursue her studies overseas.
Jr. was a gentleman and very compassionate indeed. He made an appointment with DCC and brought Hoe to see him and his managers. After listening to Hoe's plea,DCC asked Jr whether he wanted to proceed with the DI. Jr. knew Hoe's chances of keeping his steward job was zero after the inquiry. Threatening a colleague, let alone a superior with bodily harm would result in a sack. In that respect,Jr told DCC that he would prefer to let Hoe off with just a warning and in return,Hoe promised he would never give any trouble again.
A few years later, when a chief steward was arrested in Sydney for trying to smuggle drugs,Hoe abruptly resigned from SIA. Hoe claimed he won $1 million from gambling in Las Vegas.
Today,Hoe is a bankrupt working at Sim Lim Tower selling computer games softwares.

Happy to have shared my blogging experience
Steward Vandalised Crew Executive's Car
This guy called Hoe was a frustrated flight steward who was not promoted for a number of years. In the airline,he behaved like a thug and many crew were afraid of him. He carried out the service on board the flight the way he wanted it.
On one flight he defied a female inflight supervisor's order and threatened her he would skin her alive.
The IFSs reported her to the company but under union's pressure, the company let Hoe off the hook.It became a habit for Hoe to defy the seniors order and each time he was let off.
It was on a cool winter night at Dubai airport when Hoe got in from a flight from Singapore. At the same time, Jr the cabin crew executive was also at Dubai airport leaving for a flight to London. They met each other and as a matter of duty, Jr advised Hoe to stop chewing gum and button up his uniform jacket.Hoe refused and there was nothing the CCE could do then except to report the matter to the office after the flight.
Hoe was subsequently called up by the office and warned by his ward leader, another CCE for his poor behaviour at Dubai airport.
Immediately after the warning, Hoe went and confronted Jr in the office. He shouted at Jr and threatened him with bodily harm. However,in spite of being provoked by Hoe,Jr remained cool and composed.
Jr invited Hoe to an unoccupied office and told Hoe that they could discuss the matter there. Hoe accepted the invitation and went to the office.
Jr was a cool kind of CCE,in his early forties. He was a prison officer before joining the airlines and had handled rough and tough prisoners. The prisoners had high regard as well as reverence for Jr. He was an efficient and tough officer but because of the higher pay in the airlines,he left the prison service to be a steward.
So this young steward Hoe didn't know who he was dealing with. When he entered the office,he started using expletives on Jr and threatened bodily harm again. Before he could opened his mouth to use another swear word at Jr,Hoe was floored to the ground with one hard punch in the stomach from Jr. Hoe was shocked and in pain and ran out of the office. He hopped onto his motor bike and scooted off.
Two days later, Jr found his car sprayed with paint remover. There wasn't any evidence to pinpoint Hoe as the culprit but deep down,Jr knew it was Hoe who had vandalised his old Mercedes Benz...to continue
