CC wanted me to create a forum to air ........

3years flying junior has left a new comment on your post "Like a dog that returns to its vomit..........":

Good morning BT, I am someone that always believe good service comes from within, its a matter of whether we (CC) want to do it or not. After 3 years flying with SQ, I am truly impressed by how crew's creativity can do magic on board. By enforcing, does not get the desired results. I am paxing recently to PVG, for once I sit down and observed that the smiles are gone, the positiveness and passion are replaced by "are towels done"? SPML accounted for? etc. WE ARE SAPPED by the company because of all these minor things they are squeezing us. EG..roster us flights right till our rostered AALV, A330 refusing to standardise at 11 crewing, take away 2 crew for 200R, i feel it doesnt make sense playing THE SIA GIRL video right after take off, but we are not happy, tired, demoralised. I really hope BT start a place for our views to be shared, or even publish a newsletter to be sent to our CEO :D for I am someone at the frontline for SIA, I know, if mgt do not squeeze and squeeze us, we dont need checks board, we will fight for SIA.

BT: I do not mind creating a blog for cc to air their frustrations, grievances with their jobs etc. However, I won't condone the smearing of individuals, insulting anyone or accusing people of this and that unless you have solid evidence. Also, if not many cc are participating in the blog by leaving comments etc I would inevitably delete it as the views would not be the representatives of many cc.

Like a dog that returns to its vomit..........

I was told the Cabin Crew Executives  (CCE) are now going back on flights to appraise the crew. The standard of the inflight service must be deteriorating like crazy to enlist the CCEs' assistance.
8 years ago they got rid of the most experienced CCes by offering early retirement. They replaced them with what they called IA or in flight auditors who are actually inflight supervisors (IFS). The CCE is a management position and the IFS is not. In order to reduce cost they did away with the CCEs. The CCEs were also considered  "dinosaurs" and redundant.
Now my younger ex colleagues in the office the CCEs must be grinning from ear to ear. The reasons are because they "love" flying and staying in 5 star hotels all over the world. Besides, flying will break the monotony of the office work which most loathe.
It's a good thing they didn't opt for the early retirement.

BT: The CCEs were formerly cabin crew.

My papaya blog

Sorry cc I have closed the above blog because of the unethical calling of names etc. It was set out to be a place for cc or anyone to air their grouses and unhappiness over their jobs, frustrations, weather etc. However, cc started to mention names of people they don't like and insulting them. Enough is enough and have made up my mind to close it.

Secrets to looking good on long-haul flights.

BEFORE YOU DEPART

1. Ensure you have a good rest before the flight. Minimise your intake, or refrain from, caffeinated or carbonated drinks and drink plenty of water instead.

2. Dress in layers to keep comfortable. Aircraft temperatures vary so the more comfortable you are, the better you will feel.

3. Dress in comfortable, light, non-crease clothing and avoid wearing tight pants.

4. Wear flat, comfortable shoes - feet often swell when sitting in the one position for prolonged periods.

5. Pack a comfortable outfit for the long flight so you can change prior to landing or during transit. Remember you may be in the same clothes for over 24-hours on some long haul flights so changing your clothes will make you feel better at the other end.
ON BOARD

1. Crew are known to drink as much as two or three litres of water during a long haul flight. Drink still water regularly and don’t be afraid to drink too much of it. If you find you need to go to the bathroom more often, treat this as a good excuse to move your body during the flight - it will make you feel better in the end.

2. Apply night-cream or hydrating moisturiser to the face and body regularly throughout a long flight to avoid dry skin. If you are wearing make-up, consider taking it off during the journey. Spritz your face regularly to keep it moist. Use lip balm to keep lips moist and avoid cracking.

3. Eat healthy snacks such as fruit and avoid saturated fats. Move, walk and stretch regularly throughout the flight. During the flight many crew members avoid heavy meals loaded with carbs and tend to opt for lighter options (such as salad and/or soup) during the night.

4. Use eye drops to prevent your eyes from drying. Consider using a saline nose spray to keep your sinuses moist.

5. Groom yourself prior to landing - brush your teeth and hair. Ladies, apply light make-up and lip-gloss to make yourself look and feel fresher upon arrival.

IN THE AIR

1. Think about your arrival time and try to sleep throughout the flight accordingly. If you arrive at your destination in the morning, try to get a good sleep or rest on the aircraft. If you can't sleep, even closing your eyes and resting your mind is better than nothing.

2. If you arrive in the evening have a few small naps to get you through the flight, avoiding a long sleep so that you can sleep that night at your destination.

3. The sooner you can adjust to the new the time zone the lesser the impact of jet lag you will experience. Revitalise yourself by taking deep breaths.

4. Dry lips are one of the hazards of the job - Elizabeth Arden’s eight-hour cream/gel is standard issue for many cabin crews.

5. Wear eye shades and ear plugs to assist in resting. Use a neck rest pillow to assist with comfort.

ARRIVAL

1. If you’re in transit try and shower and brush your teeth and change your clothing, if you haven’t already done so aboard the flight. Cleanse your face and reapply hydrating products. Keep drinking plenty of water.

2. Expose yourself to sunlight to combat jet lag.

3. Walk or move around to get your blood flowing and to assist with staying awake and alert.

4. Avoid drinking too much alcohol when you arrive at your destination or you may fall asleep at the wrong time as well as risking dehydration.

5. A common saying among airline crews is: listen to your body – regardless of where you are what time it is. If you’re feeling like you need to have a sleep then sleep.

Union or no union the show must go on

The cabin crew voted out the previous committee of their union representatives and installed one that is new to the game. The new team is in power since last October when they trashed the incumbent led by Alan Tan 20 to 0. Great news when Tony their new leader and new party Choice won by a landslide. Cabin crew was jubilant at the results and almost everyone was celebrating.
Alan and his party Heart wasn't doing a bad job. The crew was overly ambitious and greedy. They wanted Heart to squeeze every drop of blood from the company. They wanted more perks and pay besides what they were having. These were mostly the younger and junior crew.
SIA is a good company to work for. Granted they were a couple of asses in the office who would make life difficult for their flying colleagues. Overall, it's still a great company. An employee gets all kinds of perks eg. car and housing loans at very low interest rates, free tickets for self and dependants plus unlimited discount tickets to SIA's destination, $8 a month sports club membership with free car park, shares option, housing renovation loan, free meals provided for the crew on the plane even though they are being paid meal allowances etc etc.
Without giving Choice party a longer period of time to prove themselves, some of the crew are already cursing and swearing at them for not being able to deliver their election promises.
Cabin crew think that they can suka suka kicked the people they democratically voted in. If they think their elected reps are not doing a good job then they have themselves to blame.
The crew are childish and a bunch of spoilt brats. They should thank their good fortune for having been employed by the airline. Outside of the airline, they are nothing. I know it because many of ex colleagues who were so called executives could not even find a proper job. Even 7-11 stores don't want them as assistant night supervisors, a position that hardly pays more than a $1,200 a month. They were "big timers" when they with SIA,earning no less than $7,000 a month plus bonuses ( senior ones with O level were taking home something like $10,000 a month). No wonder they were given the "Handshake". Today many have found they are redundant and unwanted in the employment arena.
So CC please wake up! When you leave SIA then you would know what you are worth.....perhaps a piece of S***.

Seminar/Talks for cabin crew wannabes in preparation for April 2 interview in S'pore

Hmmm.... hard work but we thoroughly enjoyed conducting the above this afternoon. We had a dozen participants and throughout the 3 hour session there were lots of questions fired at us regarding the upcoming interview. These people who attended our seminar would no doubt stand a better chance than those who did not.
Very important issues and points which the interviewers would look for were highlighted to the participants.
I am confident most will make it,if they apply what was told to them.
Good luck guys!

Finally the UN forces are attacking

Early this morning, The French flew 20 Mirages over the Benghazi area and fired at Qaddafi forces, tanks and artillery in order to halt their slaughtering of innocent Libyan citizens.
A few hours later, the US and English joined in the operation by firing over 100 missiles from their wars ships and submarines in the Mediterranean at military targets in Tripoli.
Qaddafi remains defiant in the face of the attacks from Allied forces.
It would be in a matter of days before Qaddafi and his sons suffer the same fate as Saddam Hussein and his two sons.

Japan dumps water on stricken reactors ( 3 hour ago)

Disaster in Japan

Earthquake,Tsunami and nuclear leak
Make the Japanese future bleak
They took many many lives
And very few did survive

My heart goes out to the poor souls
The disaster is beyond their control
If it had happened to us here
Definitely we can't endure

Like Goh Chok Tong had just said
Even a small flood we're afraid
Complain against the smallest thing
Singaporeans are good for nothing

New power line may ease Japan nuclear crisis

A nearly completed new power line could restore electric cooling systems in Japan's tsunami-crippled nuclear plant, its operator said Thursday, raising hopes of easing the crisis that has threatened a meltdown.
Tokyo Electric Power Co. spokesman Naoki Tsunoda said the new power line to Fukushima Dai-ichi is almost complete. Officials plan to try it "as soon as possible" but he could not say when.
Meanwhile, conditions at the plant appeared to worsen Wednesday, with white smoke pouring from the reactor complex and a dangerous surge in radiation levels forcing workers to retreat for hours from their struggle to cool the overheating reactors.
The chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency said he would go to Japan as soon as possible to assess the danger. He called the situation serious and urged the Japanese government to provide better information to the agency.
The new line would revive electric-powered pumps, allowing the company to maintain a steady water supply to troubled reactors and spent fuel storage ponds, keeping them cool. The company is also trying to repair its existing disabled power line.
The word came as international concern mounted over the deteriorating situation at the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant, where the danger from the reactors has nearly overshadowed the human tragedy of last week's magnitude 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami that pulverized Japan's northeastern coast and is feared to have killed more than 10,000 people.
The 180 emergency workers have been working in shifts to manually pump seawater into the reactors because last week's earthquake and tsunami disabled main and backup power for electric-powered cooling pumps.

UCLA student posts video rant on Asians and the response.

Associated Press
The chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles said Monday he was "appalled by the thoughtless and hurtful comments" that a white student made about her Asian classmates in a video that has drawn national attention.
Alexandra Wallace posted a three-minute rant on YouTube called "Asians in the Library," in which she criticizes the school for accepting "these hordes of Asian people" who she said have no manners and invite their extended family to visit on the weekends. The UCLA political science student also faulted Asian students for disrupting her studies at the library by calling family members in the wake of the tsunami.
"I'll be in, like, deep into my studying, into my political science theories and arguments and all that stuff, getting it all down, like typing away furiously, blah, blah, blah, and then all of a sudden when I'm about to, like, reach an epiphany, overhear from somewhere, 'Oh ching chong ling long ting tong, ooohh," she said.
UCLA Chancellor Gene D. Block said the video doesn't reflect the views of the university community
"Like many of you, I recoil when someone invokes the right of free expression to demean other individuals or groups," he wrote in a statement posted on the university's website.
Wallace, who couldn't immediately be reached for comment, issued an apology to the university's Daily Bruin newspaper on Sunday, calling the video inappropriate.
"I cannot explain what possessed me to approach the subject as I did, and if I could undo it, I would," she said. "I would like to offer my apology to the entire UCLA campus."
University officials are evaluating whether there have been any violations of the student code of conduct and what sanctions if any are appropriate.
BT: The original video could not be embedded here because it was disabled. However, you could see glimpses of it in the 2 videos below in which 2 Americans of Asian origin responded to the racist comments made by the blonde.

5 Ways You Can Help Japan's Tsunami Victims Right Now, From Your Couch

A devastating tragedy occurred in Japan on Friday when a monstrous 8.9-magnitude quake hit, causing a 10 meter (33 foot) tsunami to engulf the northeastern coast of the country. There are reports of over 1,000 people who have lost their lives, tens of thousands evacuated, and massive damage. Whether you have a lot or a little to give, here are five ways you can aid in the relief effort this very moment, without even leaving your couch.

1. Buy a Lady Gaga Earthquake Relief Bracelet

Lady Gaga was extremely quick to respond to the tragedy. As early as Friday afternoon, she tweeted: "I Designed a Japan Prayer Bracelet. Buy It/Donate here and ALL proceeds will go to Tsunami Relief Efforts. Go Monster."  The rubber band bracelet states "We Pray for Japan" in both English and Japanese, along with an image of her signature monster paw. The bracelet is $5 and will ship out March 25th. Pre-order now.

2. Send a Text Message Donation to Red Cross

For a simple and quick donation, just text Red Cross: “People can make a $10 donation by texting REDCROSS to 90999. Their donation will go to support relief efforts for the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.” The $10 donation will be automatically billed to your cell phone statement.
You can also use their donation form to give a larger amount.

3. Create Your Own Fundraising Page at SXSW4Japan

5 Ways You Can Help Japan's Tsunami Victims Right Now, From Your Couch Yesterday, South By Southwest Interactive Festival director Hugh Forrest announced SXSW4Japan, a site where conference attendees are asked to donate a cumulative total of at least $10,000 for disaster relief efforts. You do not need to be a SXSW attendee to participate. Here are three ways you can join in:
  1. DONATE - Click on the general donation button in the upper right hand corner of the page or text your donation to 90999.
  2. SHARE - On the web; On Twitter; Mention it in your SXSW talks with #sxswcares and #sxsw4japan.
  3. CREATE A FUNDRAISING PAGE - Use the SXSW platform to create your own personalized fundraising page, where you can ask family and friends to contribute. Read tips for it here.
All proceeds go to the American Red Cross.

4. Send a Text Message Donation to the Salvation Army

The Salvation Army in Tokyo immediately mobilized an effort in Sendai, reportedly the most damaged city in the region, to provide victims with food, water and other necessities. They are also providing aid in Tokyo: "Because the whole public transport shut down and stranded many commuters, The Salvation Army opened a section of their Territorial Headquarters building for those who could not get home."
If you'd like to donate $10, simply text "japan" or "quake" to 80888. You can stay updated with the organization via their blogTwitter feed and Facebook page.

5. Choose Any Mobilized Charity and Donate

The above options are all quick and easy, but there are many more mobilized charities to choose from. Google posted this helpful list of organizations, all of which are prepared to accept donations now.

GE Poem by Ong Ah Bee

Recently, my white MP,
nok on my door, and very kek ki..
Say ‘I’ve worked so hard, so vote for me’,
‘Or rubbish won’t be cleared, in your vicinty’..

I said ‘Dear MP of my GRC’,
‘Dun remember u, so please pardon me’..
‘I only saw you on TV’,
‘Dozing off and jiak liao bee’..

Last GE I voted for thee,
2% up in GST..
Cut CPF and up utility,
Are still very clear in my memory..

5 years later, then you come to me,
Fresh from your slumber of ivory..
Say that only, you can help me,
Escape from a life of poverty..

Just take a drive on CTE,
Count the number, of all the gantries..
Or squeeze a ride on the MRT,
That has not been cleared for me

My life since the last GE,
Has been downhill though I voted PAP..
If I vote the same for your sleeping spree,
I can expect the same misery..

So! this time round, I vote for somebody,
Who will kachiao you, to productivity..
Forms fill wrong, no big deal to me,
If there’s someone to speak up for ah bee..

So dear MP of GRC,
If life no improve, vote u cho simi?

Japan earthquake: Danger of nuclear disaster after Fukushima plant failure?

It ain't easy to be a cabin crew but applicants abound

If you think the life of a cabin crew is cushy and the job is easy, think again. To be a cc one needs not only brains and beauty but to be hardworking, pleasing, subservient,an eye for details etc etc.
The salary after all is not fantastic. Most of the income are derived from things like meal allowances, inflight incentive allowance, transport allowance, uniform allowance, bonuses etc. If one is on leave, be it annual leave or medical leave, one would not be paid those allowances. So cc will be paid only basic salary under those circumstances i.e. ranging for a little over $1,000 to $4,000 for the most senior crew.
The work is hard and the hours can be very long. Take the non-stop flight from S'pore to New York by the A345. All in all the total number of duty time from reporting for work until you touch down at New York would be about 22 hours. Imagine cc has to be subjected to different time zones and breathe in oxygen that are thinner than on earth.
Discipline is also very strict. One has to be punctual, neat in overall grooming, respectful of the seniors etc etc. Medical leave (MC) especially "casual" ones are frowned upon. If one was to report sick for a tedious and unpopular turnaround flight then the same crew would be rostered again for such flight. Taking too many MCs would jeopardised one's chances of getting promoted. Then you have to be careful not to invite complaints from the passengers, the general public as well as the seniors or your juniors.
Medically,  a cabin crew in general would not be as healthy as an office worker. Why? It's because of the lack of sleep, frequently suffering from jet lag (no such thing as getting used to it), having meals at irregular hours, fatigue, exposure to cosmic radiation etc. In the long term, life span would be shortened due to sicknesses like cancer, heart problems, diabetes, severe backaches etc. The longest a cabin crew has ever lived was 69 years old (I did not include those who flew for a short while and then worked in the office eg. managers and cabin crew executives). (The average life span of a Singaporean is 81.6 years  but cabin crew is 58 years). He just passed away 2 weeks ago. Most died around 50 plus and they had flown for an average of 30 years (IFS & Chief and mostly male). The stewardesses cannot be included in this group as they would average about 8 to 10 years of flying. Most of the IFS and Chief died of cancer and heart problem. Examples of those who died within the last 5 years were IFS Justin Choo, IFS Rex Pek, IFS David Chan, IFS Kenneth Chan, IFS Derrick Isaac, IFS Philip Voon, IFSs Shirely Wong, IFS Paul Foo, IFS Foo Kwee Pin, IFS WC Soh, IFS Malcom, CS Lester Sim, CS Barry Loo and many more.

France recognises Libya opposition

France is the first country to recognise the Libya Revolutionary Council as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people.
Steady la President Nicolas Sarkozy, like that much cheap oil will flow into France after the Qaddafi & co. is gone. Heard that Libyan oil is sweeter than the Saudi oil, meaning it's easier to refine.
Singapore quickly do like the French did and our petrol will be cheap and our electricity bill will be affordable.
The Libyan Revolutionary Council promised it won't forget who their friends are.

Delta tops the world's most admired airlines

Delta Air Lines has been voted the world's "most admired airline" by Fortune magazine, managing to push the much-acclaimed Singapore Airlines into second place.
The award, announced March 3, means that Delta came out top in a string of assessments including social responsibility and quality of product, as well as business-related criteria such as quality of management and global competitiveness.
Delta has moved steadily up the ranks over the past four years to reach top spot, which was awarded to Singapore Airlines last year -- the airline's boss Richard Anderson described the award as a "remarkable achievement" in a note to staff.
Other airlines in the top ten included major international carriers such as Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, Cathay Pacific Airways, Qantas, British Airways and ANA.
Despite the award, a quick look at the figures show some improvements to be made for Delta.
Although the company topped its peers for social responsibility, quality of management and global competitiveness (among others), it was lower placed in other areas, most notably quality of products/services where it scored a relatively low ranking in 7th.
That criteria was led by (you guessed it) Singapore Airlines, with Air France/KLM in second place, Cathay Pacific in third and Lufthansa fourth.
The world's most admired airlines:
1     Delta Air Lines
2     Singapore Airlines
3     Southwest Airlines
4     Lufthansa Group
5     Air France-KLM Group
6     Cathay Pacific Airways

Farewell Justin RIP

Turning this into an obituary blog is not my aim. However, if you are around my age (65) your friends and ex colleagues  would be also quite old and queuing up to "go"...hahaha. So I cannot help but published the names of my friends and dear ex colleagues who had gone and blog about how much we missed them. For those who are here looking for juicy airline stories, this blog has plenty of them but inevitably will skip this particular posting. Please bear with us, as we old people are rather sentimental and like to dwell a little about our wonderful time with each other in the airline.
Justin was one the senior crew I enjoyed flying with. He was a leading steward when I first flew with him on the B707. He was a good leader and one who did not "zap" his juniors unlike most seniors in those days. He was meticulous in his work but a bit kaisi sometimes. Justin was one who did not like the establishment but was nice to his crew. Why I said he was a kaisi? He always had this notion that he could be sacked  if he did not do his job properly. Therefore,he had this habit of not trusting his crew and would tell us point blank  that he would not cover for us if we erred.
I heard that Justin was complaining to Pineapple Huat and Kia Su Lim while they were having lunch that he was having a flu. A week or so later, they were shocked to hear Justin had died of pneumonia. Smokey a retired IFS was advised by Justin not to drink too much at their lunch session about a week before was also shocked to hear Justin had died.
Many of us could not believed that Justin had died. He was in the pink of health, one who did not smoke nor drink too much and yet died at a rather "young" age of 69 (his favorite numbers).
Justin had a younger brother working with us in the airline too. He has since retired and is currently enjoying his retirement playing golf and looking after his grandkids, I was told.
We will miss Justin and may he RIP.

Don't let them exploit you, friends.

Those employers who take advantage of older workers by paying them peanuts should wake up to the reality that they will get monkeys.
What makes me want to blog about this subject is because I was told that a retired chief steward and a supervisor are currently working for a very low salary. They had just started working for a delivery company which pays each of them $400 basic salary a month plus another $200 for transport allowance. Their job,I was told, was to deliver some small items to their customers. Their main means of transportation are either by buses or MRT or both (can't expect them to travel by cab right?). They accepted the job because of boredom. Their are in their early 60s.
One would assumed that once you have put in many years of service with SIA as a cabin crew you would be getting a decent salary when you start working for another company. Granted these are retired and old ex crew but what about their vast experience as front line and service people? Yes, you may argue that since they accepted the job they must be quite happy with the pay. I agree with that statement but I think their employer are exploiting them, knowing their present predicament. My suggestion is not to let them exploit you,my ex colleagues and friends. Come let's get together and see what we can do as retired staff of cabin crew .
One afternoon I was having coffee with a retired chief steward at a coffee shop in Sengkang when I received a call asking me whether I could bring a small dog from a place nearby to an animal clinic at Balestier. I told the caller my fees for a 2 way trip was $80. She agreed and I offered the job to the chief steward instead. It was his first assignment and he enthusiastically accepted my offer. See , it's so easy to earn $80 in just under 2 hours of work.
On another occasion, I had a retired colleague transporting a dog to clinic. As he was driving home after the assignment, I offered him another job. This time he was to fetch a dog from Tampines to Turf City. He earned $130 for the 2 assignments in just under 2 hours of work. He thanked me for helping him earn some money. This same guy is hardworking and he now earns a couple of thousands a month for looking after people's dogs.
Do you remember Bobby Chew the ex chief steward? He is a taxi driver and occasionally I will ask him to ferry small dogs for me. He told me it's more rewarding to transport these pets than humans. He always look forward to my call.
I am currently helping VJ to conduct talks for cabin crew wannabes. He had sat in my talks and picked up some tips. He would assist me  for now  and after a while I want him to take over the job completely. I told him I will get the participants and he will conduct the workshop and we will split the proceeds 50 50. He agreed.
I am currently operating a pet hotel and don't mind having my ex crew friends work with me. Any takers? But first you must have a liking for pets like dogs and cats.

Libyan Revolution is not the concern of most Singaporeans?

I was having lunch at a restaurant recently and I overheard the following conversation by some Singaporeans  a table away from us regarding the situation in the Middle East:

"Do you think S'poreans would dare to protest against the government like the Libyans?" asked a guy.

"No way would S'poreans be like the Libyans....know why?  because they are more preoccupied with the   subjects like the rates of COEs, value of their HDB flats, maid levies, where to have the best char kway teow, roti prata etc." replied another.

The conversation was nonetheless interesting because they talked about their children's education,CPF and even about the casinos here.

I thought to myself  the S'pore Govt's strategy of providing every S'poreans with a roof over their heads and even hawker food to fill up their stomachs is really working.

Crew slang & lingo

You may or may not have heard of the following crew lingo or slang:

Chiat chow --- in Hokkein literary means eat grass but to the crew it means one is broke or penniless. It's commonly used when a crew has lost a lot of his money/meal allowances in a gambling session, most commonly losing in a casino.

Pai lo ti -------- in Hokkein it means queuing at the bakery for bread. In the crew's context it means waiting for one's turn to have sex with a gal who is busy engaging in sex with another guy ( it's an orgy but more orderly and disciplined ).

Bicycle ------ when a gal is branded as a bicycle it means she is a whore and any guy could ride.

Langar lorry-------- this refers to a gal who is ugly. In Malay it means a person who is being crushed by a lorry in an accident.

GS------------ a galley steward but also means a galley slave.

Off load------- is to rid the aircraft of it's bar drinks, soft drinks, mineral water, food etc and pack them to the hotel to be feasted later on....eg  She off loaded a lot of dry stores from the EY (Economy Class)

Dry stores------ grocery items like biscuits, bread, can drinks etc.

Koooning ------ means sleeping ( combination of Hokkein and English)

Uplift ---------- to collect/borrow money from credit card company/bank or colleague after losing at casino etc. eg " He wants to uplift $2,000 at ANZ bank using his credit card after losing all his money at the casino"

Blur like sotong-------- also means stupid or in a daze...eg Wah that new stewardess is blur like sotong, don't know where the coffee cups are.

CCN ----- Cabin Crew News (usually associated with a rumour)

EOB-----Eat aircraft food so don't have to spend money eating outstation food when the aircraft lands.

BT: will blog some more if I can recall or can any crew or ex crew contribute too?

Libyan Rebels Beat Back Gadhafi Forces

By PAUL SCHEMM, Associated Press – 51 mins ago
BREGA, Libya – Mutinous army units in pickup trucks armed with machine-guns and rocket launchers deployed around the strategic oil installation at Brega Thursday, a day after the opposition foiled an attempt by loyalists of leader Moammar Gadhafi to retake control of the port in rebel-held east Libya.
Government warplanes launched a new airstrike on the town in the morning, according to witnesses who said they could not immediately identify the target. But it was likely an airstrip that belongs to the huge oil complex on the Mediterranean coast.

Gaddafi’s Underground Labyrinth & Prison

Source: http://leaksource.wordpress.com/2011/03/02/gaddafis-underground-labyrinth-prison/

Qaddafi forces retake towns near Libyan capital (AP)

NATO ( no action talk only), USA, Britain,France and the whole world talked and talked for the last few weeks about the situation in Libya, about wanting to help get Qaddafi. While they were talking about sanctions against Libya, freezing of the dictator's assets, demanding his departure etc thousands of Libyan are being slaughtered.
I heard over the BBC one early morning about the discussion over the Libyan crisis and was shocked to hear some Libyan academics stressing that they don't want the Americans to intervene in the war. These A-holes talked and protested with their CB mouths against the American presence (as if the Americans wanted to) and at the same time their fellow countrymen are being butchered ( Many Libyans in Libya are crying out for the foreign forces to come to their rescue)! They, the CB academics said they were afraid the Americans would stay put after the war, just like they did in Iraq and Afghanistan.
How to fight that monster when he had the whole air force at his disposable? All it takes are  one or two war planes to bomb the rebelled held cities and they will fall.
Btw the Libyan academics were not in Libya (hiding somewhere in London) and did not know the reality of the situation. So proud some more...dun want others to help fight Qaddafi. Sure die one!!!

I am SIA.....

Different people provide services to their fellow humans in different ways. For me, I provide services to pets and their owners in my own way. I drive a van and transport pets like cats and dogs to the clinics, beaches, groomers, hydro therapy etc. Although making money is my objective, I provide these services with a heart. It means I do not transport pets to SPCA/AVA for pet owners who want to put their pets down for frivolous reason or reasons. My van is  sometimes used as a pet ambulance to bring DIL pets to the animal hospital. I am available 24/7 ( unless my mobile phone in the "off" mode).
Once I received a request to bring a 2 year old Beagle to the SPCA. The owner told me the reason he was putting his dog up adoption was because he and his wife was going to get a divorce. His wife had abandoned the dog and he did not have the time to care for him. I told him if no one adopts the dog in a given time,he will be put to sleep. He told me he was aware of it. I refused to transport the dog to SPCA because I would feel guilty. The Beagle was still young and had to suffer the consequence because of the owner divorce. He told me he would double my fare if I bring the dog to SPCA. I told him "Sir,even if you pay a $1,000, I won't do it". I really feel for the dog.
After a long silence, I offered to help re home the dog and he agreed. The dog was adopted later on.
There was another occasion I received a call in the middle of the night  asking to ferry the dog who was bitten by a cobra to the hospital. I collected the injured dog around 10pm and sped off to the animal hospital at Stevens Road. He lived for a few more days before he passed away.
There were many more of similar stories but I don't want to bore you. In short, although retired from SQ, I am Still In Action (SIA)!
