With all the good news about the crew and staff of Changi Airport being vaccinated and the mounting of more flights, 2021 may be worst than 2020. Singapore is also willing to open its border to other low Covid risk countries but it is not being reciprocated.
The government support scheme (50% subsidy of crew salary ends March this year) will end come March. We do not know whether the support scheme will continue after March. If not, it will be a huge burden for SIA to continue paying full salaries to its crew. In my opinion, there may be another round of retrenchment of crew. This time would probably affect all the foreign crew. In the first round of retrenchment, only foreign crew below 2 year service were retrenched.
The other alternative to retrenchment is to force the crew to go on long "no pay leave".

Even if on no pay leave, whats your alternative for CC with families? They cant do Grab or odd jobs for long as they've housing loan and children to feed.
Even with so called skills, they'll be worse as they've to compete with younger people with better relevant skillset.
Never say flying a stable job in future any longer.

Imo,no need to guess,its a human rights all over the world including local here.Those who look down from Ivory tower,might think differently,and suggestions not practical,like ungrade,uptrain etc.A more practical would be to have multiple sources of incomes,jobs,since Covid virus can mutate into more infectious strains,including duo strains of covid concurrently,vaccinations effectiveness uncertain against both.
Travel bubbles to most travelled countries via green lane,include higher risks,whether it is worth to slip in variants unwittingly,until all citizen vaccinated and protected,and thus have herd immunity.Worldwide,aircrew have not been working since the outbreak a year ago,at certain time,the money will dry up,and support scheme rethink,phrase like its not unexpected,its a good think etc,overuse and unspeakable,lacking empathies and sense,one need to vaccinate against such phrase,to rise above the gloom.However,we are one nation,we can surely rise again,with help and hope,as long as we are healthy,better than some other countries with runaway infections and lack of oxygen tank,with the lowest fatalities in the world.
