An excellent/comment article by Sunny Gale

BT: I suggest all cabin crew/flight attendants as well as cc wannabes   and critics of cabin crew read the article below:

Blogger SUNNY GALE said...

The job scope of a waiter/ cabin crew may be the same, but the lifestyles (this is where the "power"of this job comes in) is world of a difference.
Also the salary is pretty good.
The fun you get from its lifestyles is priceless which cannot be duplicated in any other job and it's so enticing/enriching a job.
You see, when u decide to join as Cc, u r not into the job really. What u r getting into is a job that opens the world to your doorstep.
Flying to countries that span across 7 continents, not once but over and over again. It's so gratifying/sensational to be able to see the world for free and WowWee, u get to stay in a 5-star hotel.
Where to find, this kind of job?
Compared to the same job scope waiter's job, or even a manager job, the mundane lifestyles of working on the ground make living on this planet a little boring.
I am sure all the Cc of the world knows this fact.
The only factor that can override the lifestyles of Cc is the power of getting a job that can make u a ton of money, hehe, bec money makes the world go round, but u would still miss the fun of flying though.
Another beautiful part of this job is if u r a guy, u get to work with so many great-looking girls u can fall in love with. This is not all, if u r amorously adventurous, there r so many overseas girls u get to make friends with. Again, where to find this kind job (Singlish phrase of the century).
If u work on it, u will also end up with girlfriends all over the world. What a lifestyle.
If u have a ground job, all u r looking at is for the weekend to have fun and chill at Clarke quay and drink yourself drunk and then take Grab home.
For Cc crew, u can drink at most crew room in the hotel and just go back to your room when drunk, it's so so convenient. And a secret here ah, most of the time u get quality alcohol for free. Cc trade secret ya. U know and l know only (Cc who r into drinking will know what l mean).
As for ground job, u pay for every glass u ordered. Moreover not so good quality drink. The good quality one comes at a price.
So u see, waiter and Cc job scope is the same but, lifestyles is a world of a difference.
U ain't know what u r missing if u have not been a Cc.
For those who live to have fun, hey this is the job for u. Don't be a waiter ok.
This job is so good that when u come across a funeral wake and u find the person in the coffin still smiling, even though dead, u will know that this person must have been a cabin crew before, hehe.
Guess he/she has been living a great life when alive with no regret.
So go join Cc and see the world for free. Don't be a fool and play it cool in life.
Think about it and observed people on the ground - u will realise eh.... every day they do the same thing, going to work and looking forward to the weekend to have some relief from work…and then Monday blues over and over again till........

However, don't expect working as a cabin crew to be a breeze. This job is exhausting - u will feel extreme tiredness after the flight and would want to get to the hotel or home soonest possible.
Only 2 activities can keep u awake. The need to eat is one and if gambling is your favourite pass time, this is another, lol.
The work onboard is simply a situation of the same procedures and is not difficult to master though.
Your senior crew member at time is the more difficult situation to handle than work, hehe. Just take it in your stride as this is part and parcel of working life. You see, not all human r born with good emotional intelligence.
Still want to be a cabin crew? Then go get Boh Tong e-guide to give you an edge in the Cc interview, as it will gives u an idea of what the airline is looking for at the interview.
Haha, just a little promotion for your blog and your entertaining us readers with articles.
Cheers.

In my humble opinion, there's another distinct advantage. In the event you have a nasty supervisor or lousey colleagues (grumpy, condescending, shirker, etc), you can tell yourself, you won't be meeting them the next day or over the foreseeable future. Next flight, different supervisor, colleagues and different passengers. In most jobs, you have to meet your nasty boss, colleagues, and even customers, everyday until you get another job.

It's a perfect cc flight with perfect IFS/M.Certain factors stand out.Top down style by CC.Every other flight got checks more than brain surgeon.Tray in tray out kitchen specs, where are needed for such checks unless it's to create more work for AO,Auditors etc.Got one cases of AO,generating repeated advice on one incidents,it means it's to justify their presence, ability as ward leader,or what leader ?That's the reason, they were replaced with cheaper, keen to please IFM Auditor, all out to kills to prove their worth. In order to be 'Lumber 'one in pax survey ,it accumulated a lot of deadwood till cc got bogs down, like a swamp festering, and stinking.Try complaining to Onion,er Union, the were busy for their own interest in IFm ,once reach become top dog set for like. The LS and the 8,and many other sagas were the result of such.To be a stormtrooper there were easy ,study the CC circular by heart, which they keep on updating or changing, depending on who,'s in charge up there.Example like proposing soup for JC and counting leftover bowls after service to gauge popularity.Coffee tea ,drinking cart on HKG turnaround, tpe, tyo.Sadly, all had passed, due to being curse ,from morning till night. How many cases of molest by senior crew ?Beside octopussy Long ,1court cases, when power goes to the head it does affect their judgement added the pressurisation on circulation it's occupational hazard, for IfM.Additionally ,the long ,remoteness, away from home, create havoc's on their mind.Pity such junior ,working under such condition.Nowady, with media,no one get away ,be done on board be dammed online.Having said that BT,blog serves a useful service in the continuing saga of it.Those who can should donate or support this blog the antidote and antibiotic to crime onboard, otherwise we are lesser, and dumber and dumber.

Excellent article by Sunny. It also dwell into what life is all about. On ground it's work and work and nothing but work.
No wonder the world is experiencing a decline in population because people wise up and realized that there is nothing to life but work.
Hm... so better not to bring another child into this world unless humanity can recreate and make life more interesting and less stressful.
Kudos to u Sunny for giving the cue for human to take a look at the way we are living on this planet.
This is the same situation as climate change, which if not taken seriously will result in the extinction of the human race on planet earth.
So if u cannot get work and life balance, u r not going to have children and slowly but surely the human race will disappear from this planet due to diminishing population.
Take note u human out there with the power to influence changes, eg Prime Minister or world leaders, it's time to look into how to make the world a better place to live in, otherwise human being will be an endangered specie in the future.
Nowadays the young people when they go for interview, they even ask about the work and life balance of the job, otherwise they r not interested in your organization. Wow, what a changed in the younger generation.

I'm sorry Ive to disagree with Sunny too optimistic view of being CC.

That view is correct in SQ golden age before middle eastern airlines and budget carriers took away the SQ flair. Here's the points -

1) layover get short with CC spend most time in hotel room to rest and not able to go out and spend allowance because SG cost of living is expensive. They too are tired to walk around the areas as they get older.

2) CC skills are largely non-transferable in other work other than F&B and perhaps hotel.

3) CC on tenure have no choice but to lan lan till 60 plus years old and stuck in there especially when they have family.

In conclusion, the job is good for short time but doing the same airline CC routine over and over again and expecting different result like better pay and more leave for CC is what Einstein termed as insanity.

It will never happen as long SQ competition with other airlines is visible.

Hi, Anonymous who posted on 14/9/22,

Sunny's view is not wrong, and yours is also correct. I am of the humble opinion that the scenarios facing the current CCs are also experienced elsewhere. Please allow me to cshare my views on your comments

1) layover get short with CC spend most time in hotel room to rest and not able to go out and spend allowance because SG cost of living is expensive. They too are tired to walk around the areas as they get older.

In life, and almost everywhere, we always hear people fondly recalling the "good old days...." Of course, the good old days of CCs were very enviable but, with time and prevailing conditions, one cannot wish for "the good old days" to into perpetuity.

2) CC skills are largely non-transferable in other work other than F&B and perhaps hotel.

There are also many occupations out one's skills and expertise are so narrowly geared and structured that switching profession/vocation is a near impossibility. For example, pilots, artists, musicians and many more. They will either have to be very versatile or moderate their expections in life.

3) CC on tenure have no choice but to lan lan till 60 plus years old and stuck in there especially when they have family.

This happens to almost everybody and not specific to CCs. Once you are old, marketability dropped. Even some professions are in high demand, for example, doctors, lawyers, bankers, age will also be a toll with passing years.

Above are my humble views and, in summarising, I would say both Sunny and Anonymous are not wrong. At the end of the day, it is up to each individual to make it good for himself/herself. There is this old saying, "if you are born poor, it is nobody's fault. But if you die poor, you may have to bear some blame because you did not put in enough effort"
