This is a Singapore Airline (SIA) blog . The stories are written by an ex cabin crew. The stories are about the crew of SIA, especially concerning cabin crew and pilots.
1. The Police Sgt - as a Senior NCO, or even before he joined, he would surely know that those younger and better academically qualified ones will be sent for officer's training and appointed as an Inspector (commissioned officer) above him. This not only happens in the Police, government uniformed organisations, but also in the civil service and commercial organisations as well. If cannot accept it, why joined in the first place. I must say field promotions (from a NCO to a commissioned officer grade) is very very rare in the Police or Army. Hence, he must accept that this happens everywhere and he has to take it or go hungry. So, he decided to join SIA and relived his past. The fact that he resigned from the Police, as well as SIA, goes to show that he has an inflated sense of his status, by virtue of age. 2. The Co-pilot - another sad case. As it was, he was being unhappy with the flying skills of other pilots. What if, for some reason, he is grounded? He might be moved to a desk-bound office job. And he might well have to report to someone without any flying experience.
There is this saying "Everybody MAY NOT have equal skills or abilities everybody everybody HAVE THE RIGHT to equal opportunities". So, if someone is more qualified, or luckier, than them to have the opportunity to a better (and higher position than them), they have to accept it - too bad and harbouring frustrations against others is just not being fair to others.

Hi, BT, my opinion on both of them:-
