Lucky people, excellent company

The coming 8 months bonus for SIA staff is a lot of money. Take for example a stewardess who has been flying for 1 to 5 years may be paid something like 12k (1.5 x by 8) or an inflight manager 28k or a captain 120k! Lucky people working for an excellent airline. Only regret is those crew who left because they refused to be vaccinated against Covid. Think these former crew should be reinstated to their former position.

Firstly, the key words are "eligible staff". Secondly, is the announced 8-month bonus across the Board (applies to all) or only for those "eligible" ones whilst the others do get some but the equivalent of lesser months?

Even if, and only if, all staff are eligible for the 8-month bonus, those who are likely to benefit more are senior management because their monthly salary are higher than those on the ground. Of course, in their defence, they would say it is the decision of the Board of Directors BUT they are the ones making the recommendations. They could also argue that their responsibilites are wider and more crucial BUT without ground staff, all the best strategies and visions will come to a standstill.

There are some organisations that have come up with a very equitable package but I won't mention it because I don't know the structure and distribution of SQ's 8-month bonus is like. It also sound like a PR initative.

My personal views and I stand to be corrected.

If you actually read the articles online, it is clearly stated 6.65 bonus in July and 1.5 ex gratia in January 2024. The ex gratia payment is for the hard work during 2020-2023, 0.5 months for each of the 3 years.

So when they say eligible, it actually means a range of different payouts because some people may have taken voluntary no pay leave, and that 1.5 will be prorated.

Hi, Anonymous of 21 May, yes, you have observed correctly. But I was wondering if this applies to all. In many bonus announcements, it would feature the top-tier amount, whereas, in reality it is "up to". This is because, like you said, some might get pro-rated amounts and, further more, there could be other factors (e.g. performance, contribution, etc) taken into consideration resulting in some getting lesser months.

If all will be similar computation, that's good but some will still benefit more than others.

My personal views.

The senior management only gets the 6.5 and not the 1.5 mths payout.

Hi Boh Tong

What's your take on SQ recent announcement that they will do away with paper packaging and have fuller breakfast set meal after public complaints?

Do you think its fair move?

Yes it is a fair move is my opinion.
