SIA cabin crew job is safer than PMETs

"This is even after he began applying for jobs that offered about S$2,000 a month, which is less than half of his S$5,900 monthly paycheck prior to being laid off.

At 49, Jeff (not his real name) has been written off by potential employers as “too old, too expensive and too experienced”."

More here

BT: I rather be a steward because at 49 I would most likely be a IFM (Inflight Manager) and SIA would most unlikely find me “too old, too expensive and too experienced”.
So what is this guy talking about? ....read here

A retrenched PMET said...

BT is absolutely right! A PMET's position in Singapore is less secured than a steward's job (I am referring to Singapore only). PMETs are more vulnerable to retrenchment than a steward or stewardess. PMETs can be easily replaced by cheaper foreigners but not a cabin crew with SIA.
PMETs spent tons of money, efforts and time obtaining their degrees and all of them come to waste like "Jeff" who can't even get a job that pays 2k. Come on wake up man, it does not mean having better education equals better job security especially in SG!

The person who belittled the cc job is most likely an ex crew who has an axe to grind with SIA. Or it may be a case of sour grapes.
If the cc job is bad then why, according to reports that there are 3 to 4 times more people applying to be cc with SIA recently compared to pre Covid period?

Covid issues a new paradism in work etc, wfh, zoom meeting and generally avoid face to face contact.Internet /AI mean increase use by co,less physical shop or office.Which country with runaway covid cases, more death ,means less travelling for them.Importing covid cases into countrylike Shanghai, present a dilemma, aircrew, passengers, air connectivity, always a pathway for imported case, one must be reminded,1st local case were tourist from Wuhan.Open door policies also double edge sword,it cuts both ways. Many jobs were lost, covid related temp jib dissapears, allowance for aircrew much more attractive than local jobs, absolute number of applicants for cc jobs may be high,so are the risk, layovers days reduced, passing to family, around aircrew high if no precaution taken. The most popular jobs with the highest pay seems to be pm,then mp then the rest in that order.

Why should a cc contract be NOT renewed? The criteria for renewal is so lax that only one who commits a crime then won't be renewed. If you don't know anything about how the cc dept works please ask BT. In addition don't use offensive words like "bullcr**" here as there are kids coming here to read this blog. I suggest BT should not publish such offensive comment. It is not too late because BT can delete the comment above mine. Please do it BT!

Ok done! Offensive comment deleted. I don't mind if anyone disagree with what I state in my blog but to use offensive language here is another thing. To the Anonymous directly above me, thanks for pointing out to me .

Dont believe anything written by SPH, particularly if its about a Temasek linked business.

SIA uses SPH for publicity
SPH uses SIA for readership

IFM? at this era just be grateful that you are a leading or worst case scenarioe still a blue, all the klkkzbl oldies are hogging the ifm and chiefs positions yet doing nothing but ackstabbing the younger crews through tdf in teh fear of them being promoted and taking over their positions.
