A comment worth reading by a reader (part 2)?

So, on your 5th year, you decided, enough lah.. and you resign...

This is the compensation for your youth, time and exclusive employment
with the company.

Flight Stewards/Stewardesses
(i) Completion of first 5-year contract - $10,000
(ii) Completion of second 5-year contract - $25,000
(iii) Completion of third 5-year contract - $2,500

Assuming you began employment at 20 years old,
you would be 25 years old.

What have you acquired that you can write, say about you work
as a flight attendant?

Some things:

1. Say sorry
2. Say Good morning, evening, afternoon.
3. Shout.. "Unfasten sealbelt! ... come this way!"
4. Smile ( sincerely)
5. Bun your hair in French, Chinese, Japanese style
6. Paint your nails really well.
7. Know where Gucci, LV, Prada, shops are in each city.

and perhaps much more... ( but not quiet useful to other employers )

Meanwhile, your college friends joined Siemens, Google, Marina Bay Sands Hotels,
Amazon, LTA, NParks, etc..

What would they have acquired that is different from a flight attendant?

Some things:

1. Ledgers & propriety softwares
2. Booking platforms & logistics softwares
3. Cloud computing
4. Social media management
5. Events management
6. Business challenges
7. Networking with like minded people in different industries

Of course, there are people who might not want that type of working
environment or pressure, and will get accustomed to a life of checking in and out
of hotels, and wait for rosters to be published... with apprehension about how many
Indian flights, Manila flights, or turnarounds.. and wonder if they can attend their mothers birthdays...anniversaries.. spend time with their pets that require attention..etc..

Leaving after 5 years, you might have time to relearn or update skills that are required
to earn a living. Leaving after 10years is going to set you back plenty. There will always be the exceptional few. But by and large.. plan your path... during your moments of quietness in your hotel room, contemplate, evaluate, calculate... because the company
is not your friend, but a business. It will decide based on their business needs.

Currently SQ is in debt and will be for some time ( 5 years or more ) Ignore all the reports about how well they are doing and ignore all your flights being full. They will not miss you one second if you should ever leave them.

Flights will still take off, the service will still be completed, and the company will still receive praise.

Wow, the unglamorous life after CC in a nutshell.

If what is said of cc is true then why 3 to 4 times more are applying the cc job now as compared to pre-pandemic? Think these young cc wannabes are stupid or ignorant?

Bohtong was a cc for many years and how come he is doing well and enjoying his retirement? Point to note: Bohtong only has a O level education. He did not study so hard and yet he is happy being a cc.

Bohtong did not fly for long.
He and many others in that cohort were promoted to the highest rank among all flying crew.
This rank was original labeled as Training Check Personnel ( TCP for short ).

Their role was to check on crew's work and later the quality of items being provided by different vendors that supplied the flight.

As such, the flying done by these TCPs was not on a daily basis. Unlike the operating crew, TCPs flew, perhaps twice a month. The rest of the time, they had to do a lot of other administrative things, like file management, reviewing probationary crew's performance by looking at reports submitted by operating crew. They also had to conduct training for brand new crew.

Most of these TCPs were very happy with their pay and also their rank. Almost like Gods, they were seen as "pioneers" and their knowledge was tip-top. But they did not like the administrative duties of reviewing, reading and they had difficulties adjusting to life at a desk. Their managers could (finally) see, exactly how they behaved. It was not easy for them to master the office computers, photocopying machines, telex machines, and even the internal office phone systems.

They certainly preferred flying as part of the crew... but without pushing, pulling a meal cart or
cleaning a toilet on board. It is always easier to point out mistakes that others make.
They get to eat first class meals too, while seated in a first class seat.

These TCPs were paid handsomely, if we were to look closely at their work. They were paid the same allowance as operating crew, stayed in the same hotels and sat in the same transport. Salaries in that era was good, as the cost of living was still low.

That is how the TCPs could afford terrace, semi-detached, bungalow housing. They saved money.
But this is no longer possible on a flight attendant's pay... even as an IFM.

The good,BT amongst the best, even minded, fair,God fearing blessed and long live.
