I did not let passengers abused me or my crew let alone assault us

When I was a cabin crew I had encountered passengers who threatened and tried to abuse us. I still remember one passenger flying from Singapore to Bangkok verbally abused my stewardess. I was a leading steward then and this was in 1970. I confronted him and he was aggressive towards me. I told him to meet me at the hotel I was staying so we could "settle" the issue. I was a young fellow then, around 24 years and was fearless. That coward did not turn up at the hotel that night. If he did he would be real sorry. I could have taught him a lesson that he will never forget. There are other incidences like this and if I have the time, I will go into them.

Hi, BT, with the added experience in life and benefit of hindsight, would you do it again now? I am not trying to pour cold water on your valiance, but it might be a little "reckless" on your part for the following reasons:-

1. What if that guy turned up with a gang and beat you up? Remember that you are in foreign territory. If that guy is a local, he might have the connections you don't have.

2. Let's say, he turned up and both of you got into a fight. What if the police was summoned and both of you got arrested? Will SQ tolerate one of their cabin crew being arrested for fighting overseas? Fighting is an one-to-one offence. If that guy turned up with a gang and a fight breaks out, it is affray or rioting - more serious.

3. Wasn't there an option for you to alert the Captain of an unruly passenger? The Captain could have contacted destination ground staff who will then call the Police. I am sure you are aware of rowdy passengers being arrested by local police on arrival.

4. The stewardess wasn't in any physical danger because that guy threatened her only. She could've been moved to another section. In other words, your counter-measures does look a bit disproportionate in a sense that the FSS was not in any form of harm whereas, on your part, you exposed yourself to quite a bit.

OK, lah. I would have done the same thing if I was in your position. Young and courageous and, sometimes, overlook some undesired consequences.

My humble views.

On hindsight I won't have done it.FYI that guy wasn't a local but an ang moh. Even if he was a thug,I have Thai friends too.

Haha, well in those days, situation like this was a gangster talk kind of challenge.
Crew were not taught on air-rage situation bec at that frame of time l can say it was non-existence.
The crew have never thought of it in settling pax aggression/bullying on board.
Air-rage handling was not specific and we r at a loss in handling it.
So it ends up with a challenge to meet somewhere. Hehe.
Those were the days.
