I have just received some bad news coming out of Perth. Two of our ex colleagues (one a retired ifs and the other an ex check steward) who now live in Perth are dying. The ex ifs has an incurable cancer and the other from complications due to Parkinson. Both are in their 70s. I feel sad for their loved ones. Both are nice people. I hope those who come here and read this blog would spare a thought and not scribble some horrible comment.
The next time SIA starts hiring cabin crew, I wonder what would be the qualities it will be looking for in its candidates. The reasons I am saying this is because the crew need not be smiling as they will be wearing the face masks during flight. This may be a permanent thing even in the absence of Covid. Therefore, smiling and having beautiful teeth may not be a must. Next, crew are not supposed to interact with passengers. Social distancing may be a norm. On board the flight, the crew would serve the passengers with minimal contact. Also, crew presence in the cabin during flight may not be a requirement. Can you think of anything else which may be the new normal for the crew when the Covid virus go away?
It looks like the Omicron variant is displacing the notorious Delta variant according to an expert Dr John Campbell (You may watch him on YouTube) Omicron may be more infectious than Delta but it does not make one very sick. Hospitalization and death rates are falling in most part of the world especially in South Africa where Omicron originated. It is predicted that by early spring ( April/May 2022) the world may be free of the Covid-19 virus. Life will be back to normal. This is definitely fantastic news for the world.
In my opinion, SIA may be short of cabin crew and pilots. Cabin crew may resume recruitment and it is wonderful news for the wannabes who had waited 2 years to fulfill their dream. Please be patient you cabin crew wannabes. You have waited 2 years and another few months of waiting will not be painful. Good luck!
