Thanks for opening up to us the ball-les posters who are too scared to post comments with our email. Now that you have opened for us to post anonymously let me the first ball-les to comment. SQ has arrogantly increased the airfare since traffic has picked up and this has made us the poor folks unable to travel. Why always think of profit before the poor??
Further to the above comment on SQ's increasing air-fares, my humble opinion as follows, and I must add that they are purely my views. Here goes:-
1. SQ is a listed company with members of the public holding owning shares. The law require the Company to act in the best interest of their shareholders. As a result, they have to be profitable as they are accountable to shareholders. As you all know, the accounts are discussed at a company's Annual General Meeting for approval. Any company with an unsatisfactory performance will not go down well with shareholders. 2. No institution or person owes any legal obligation to look after the poor and needy. However, there are Social Enterprises who will do so like charities, foundation, etc. SQ is definitely not a Social Enterprise and has always prided themself as a premium airline. This is not likely to change.
Fortunately, with budget carriers, travel is within reach of poor folks but they should also not expect too much. Even budget carriers also need to be profitable, so it all boils down to the work "profitability" and how much you want to make.
Opening up air travel was the cause of covid here.Further opening up to certain covid prevalent passengers without decimatingtesting, like Milan Airport experience will only mean bigger spread of covid of newer variants that defy vaccination. Thus economy that runs on covid will boom,as follows more cases locally.Good or bad its to be seen, forsight and hindsight sorely needed, whether it generate trickle down economic benefits to the nation.Seems like another invasion, fought on virus level, and no winners. In the least,it trims the population of the world, only the meek, masked and mandatory social distancing will be saved.Man inhumanity to mankind, driven by despot, dictator decimating human as much as ww1 and ww2.Let us pray.
Increase airfare: This is where your yearly free ticket comes in great. Remember to travel off-peak, avoiding year-end holidays and school breaks and u will be ok to go. If so happens the crew recognized u, you gonna enjoyed feted service on board. When l flew Lon -Sin, the LHR check in lady was so sweet and friendly when l informed her l am a retired staff. Never knew she blocked 4 seats in the middle row for me till l got on board. I was getting crew coming up to me to introduce themselves. Then a bot of mineral water, 6 pkts of playing cards (me being a gambler) and a pair of socket. During the flt, the chief steward (my ex team member) came along with a bot of red wine from the Biz class and got me high on cloud 9. The IFM was great too, inviting me to the galley to have cavair and a glass of Dom. Imagine all these feted service on a free ticket, wow wee. But with the yrs gone by, and with senior crew retiring, having crew knowing u will be an era of the past. The beauty of the free ticket is that it is a lifetime warranty situation.
On Anonymous comment over the adverse impact of opening up air travel during Pandemic, I guess the various Governments had no choice.
Many Governments, including ours, had highlighted that prolonged lockdown/strict controls were not sustainable as it would affect the economy badly, resulting in many losing their jobs, government treasury going bust and so on. Look at China's attempt to have a Zero-Covid policy. It was almost impossible and the prolonged lockdown resulted in social unrest across the country. I am not a pro-government guy, but I think the respective Government had their citizens' welfare at heart. I don't think there's Government/Dictator exercising oppressive rules or abuse of power in attempting to resolve the problem. Of course, again, these are just my views.
Hi, Sunny Gale, as a CC Wannabe in the 70s I would probably be in the same age group with you, I am naturally very envious I am sure you enjoyed meeting old friends. During my flights, when I tell the IFMs (then known as Senior Chief Steward) or the Chief Stewards/Stewardess that I had always wanted to be a CC, we would share stories about their good old days. Nowadays, for some strange reason, the younger CCs not so chatty, probably because of the generation gap, ha ha
SUNNY why kill the golden goose? If SIA management found out what the crew did for you SIA may warn the crew in future not to entertain staff who are basically freeloaders :(
Haha, not much time left to kill the golden goose. We are all dropping off one by one. It's an old-time staff culture. Even the check-in staff at LHR was into it, giving me a wide berth in my seating on board. It was a culture that was International airlines wide, where there were inclusivity in the crew caring for each other. Well, u won't be able to come across such inclusivity anymore in our present world. Those were the days my friends, l thought it would never end.
Air travel brought in the first covid,it wont be the last. Now variant infects even those vaccinated, from traveller from certain country. The carrier should give a one off for those infected discount or rebate for air travel.Flying half full still cost marginally the same, same as bridging loan for deep pocket source.During the end of ww2 marshall plan was introduce to kickstart the economy, including GI bill for education. One cannot think of profit at all time ,just my 2 cents worth.

SQ tickets are too expensive than pre-Covid.
Recently, news has it that aircraft are in shortage all over the world and unable to meet the increasing travel demand with decreased supply.
Dont waste time being CC. The pay has been the same for
past 20 years. No wonder turnover is high.
