The upcoming staff canteen will be situated in a new building block near the current STC. The bulding will consists of classrooms for both cabin crew and pilots. I am not sure how many storeys is the building nor which floor will the canteen be. It may take a while for the building to built. It is still in the planning stage.

New staff canteen

Heard that SIA is going to build a large canteen to accommodate the staff during meal hours. The current canteen is too small and during lunchtime there is hardly any space for the staff to dine. Besides, the number of food stalls are limited. In the interim, the airlines provide free bus shuttle service to ferry staff to East Point Mall. etc for lunch. The new canteen will be built near the current STC.

Many are gone :(

Quite a number of the retired senior crew has passed away within the last 2 to 3 years. People like Mark Poh, KS Goh, TH Goh, Aleem, Aloysius Fernandez aka Smokin Joe,Gary Goh,Haridas, Kookie and many others were gone. Could this be due to old age (most are just over 60),Covid or the side effects of Covid vaccines? There are also those who are sick and still struggling to live.

As a reminder please be civil and do not degrade the deceased in your comment. Those whose comments which I deemed as inappropriate will not be published or have been deleted.

Can't believe Smokey is gone!

I can't get over his demise, because Smokey was such a fit man who was always positive in his outlook. Many years ago he was our cabin crew football captain. He did not smoke but drank a little to keep healthy. The last time I met him after his retirement was at a cafe with a young lady. When asked how he was getting on with retirement he replied that he was in good health and was having a blessed life.

Silence is golden

Imo,talking about Prez hopefull more eyeball.Let him heal,if you talk on Tkl versus Tar ,you will definitely get more views.Go with the flow, not a small stream !

Above comment left by a reader. Why want me to talk about the presidential hopefuls? I know it is a hot top in SG at this moment. I rather have less "eyeballs" (views) than to be sued if I say anything about SG politics. To me silence is golden when it comes to politics.

Why recruit more?

SIA is still recruiting cabin crew aggressively. We don't know how many more does it need. Going by the interviews in SG and overseas plus asking former crew to apply is a sign of desperation. It should invite those who was "forced" to quit because of the reluctance to be vaccinated against Covid-19 to return to work. These ex crew should also be compensated for salary lost. If SIA does that then I will more respect for the airlines.

A public holiday dedicated to the mountains in Japan

Strange it may be but today is a public holiday called Yama Day, a day when the Japanese pay respect to the mountains in Japan. It also has Marine Day and other public holidays dedicated to mother nature.
In fact, the schools are having a long summer holiday, lasting 1 1/2 months. Due to the heat (max 36c only on a few days)most children are confined to their homes. If they do leave their home due to boredom, most will spend their day in the air conditioned shopping malls.
