A comment worth reading by a reader (part 2)?

So, on your 5th year, you decided, enough lah.. and you resign...

This is the compensation for your youth, time and exclusive employment
with the company.

Flight Stewards/Stewardesses
(i) Completion of first 5-year contract - $10,000
(ii) Completion of second 5-year contract - $25,000
(iii) Completion of third 5-year contract - $2,500

Assuming you began employment at 20 years old,
you would be 25 years old.

What have you acquired that you can write, say about you work
as a flight attendant?

Some things:

1. Say sorry
2. Say Good morning, evening, afternoon.
3. Shout.. "Unfasten sealbelt! ... come this way!"
4. Smile ( sincerely)
5. Bun your hair in French, Chinese, Japanese style
6. Paint your nails really well.
7. Know where Gucci, LV, Prada, shops are in each city.

and perhaps much more... ( but not quiet useful to other employers )

Meanwhile, your college friends joined Siemens, Google, Marina Bay Sands Hotels,
Amazon, LTA, NParks, etc..

What would they have acquired that is different from a flight attendant?

Some things:

1. Ledgers & propriety softwares
2. Booking platforms & logistics softwares
3. Cloud computing
4. Social media management
5. Events management
6. Business challenges
7. Networking with like minded people in different industries

Of course, there are people who might not want that type of working
environment or pressure, and will get accustomed to a life of checking in and out
of hotels, and wait for rosters to be published... with apprehension about how many
Indian flights, Manila flights, or turnarounds.. and wonder if they can attend their mothers birthdays...anniversaries.. spend time with their pets that require attention..etc..

Leaving after 5 years, you might have time to relearn or update skills that are required
to earn a living. Leaving after 10years is going to set you back plenty. There will always be the exceptional few. But by and large.. plan your path... during your moments of quietness in your hotel room, contemplate, evaluate, calculate... because the company
is not your friend, but a business. It will decide based on their business needs.

Currently SQ is in debt and will be for some time ( 5 years or more ) Ignore all the reports about how well they are doing and ignore all your flights being full. They will not miss you one second if you should ever leave them.

Flights will still take off, the service will still be completed, and the company will still receive praise.

A comment worth reading by a reader (part 1)?

Timeline in SQ as cabin crew:

Year 1 - completed probation, flying to exciting cities!
Year 2 - Renew SEP, Performance review, meet new friends, life is good!make plans!!
Year 3 - Commit to loans either car, home or business and renew SEP
Year 4 - Performance review.. renew SEP... life is even better..buy a dog
Year 5 - Here is when things gets spicy...

In Year 5, During performance review.. you hear :

"Your contract is up for renewal. However your performance is 0.002% lower than the average. There was 1 complaint received on one of your flight.Your hair colour appears too light. You are aware of the grooming standards. Do you have anything to say?"

No renewal means loans and monetary commitments are in jeopardy.
Feel the stress yet?

No?

Wait... more to come...

IFM may not have abused ex MI stewardess as alleged

From my investigation, SilkAir stewardesses do not operate A380. The OP stated in his email that the IFM abused the SilkAir stewardess in "the presence of 23 crew members". Therefore the OP's complaint is questionable. The IFM concerned is not so popular with many crew and it may be a case of "sabo". However, I was told he is now under investigation for breaching some company's rules and regulation.

Former chief steward died of a heart attack while playing tennis yesterday. As far as I know he was fit and has no health issues. RIP Anthony Ang.

A cc wannabe asked this question....

 Hi BT

Im looking to join as a SQ Steward. I'm wondering if SQ provides holiday allowances on top of the existing allowances,

For example, if CC layover in NYC, which is once in blue moon roster, do we get additional allowance for us to enjoy the stay apart from Crew hotel? Because back in SG, we need money to live and pay bills.

In NYC, we don't want to stay in hotel just to save money. We want to go out and enjoy after handling passengers.

Is this possible?

Let's move on guys

Sorry guys I've locked the comment sections for all posts related to "IFM allegedly took it on ex MI stewardess" .
Let's move on to other topics.....

"IFM allegedly took it on ex MI stewardess" (most sensible comment)

Let me give my comments from a neutral point of view. I am a current SQ crew (not a veteran neither a newbie). Firstly, former MI crews are already trained for for A350 flights and some have even completed, hence, their SNY. The next batch of MI crew will commence their training on Tuesday, 24 May 2022 (the batch of 12 has to go to the US Embassy on Monday, 23 May 2022) to get their visa. So this will dispel the myth over the statement, "NONE of them are trained (yet) on this aircraft type". Secondly, the OP must have seen previous posts and noted that names have been mentioned and initials used for the nasty ones. I have friends who are former MI crew members. Apparently, this incident have been spreading like wild fire amongst them. Some are worried about meeting this IFM whilst some are quite gung-ho and said they know what to do. Some have gone back to their former management staff to seek advice and were told to stay calm and report to Ward Leader after flight. I think what the IFM should do if he know that this incident is going around. Not difficult to find who which crew is involved. We all know having SNY is not common, more so when it is a former MI crew. So, what he can do is call up the crew to clarify matters. On the other hand, if there is some truth in it, good luck to him.

IFM allegedly took it on ex MI stewardess

Hi, Boh Tong, that was a very good response. Separately, I would like to seek your view on this situation. As you are aware, Silkair recently became part of SIA and its crew became part of the latter's. After undergoing a training stint at STC, they would be placed on SIA'S long haul flights as well. Apparently, this did not go down too well with a certain IFM. During a recent briefing for a flight, and in noting that there was Silkair's crew on SNY, he openly said, "You Silkair crew don't deserve to come to SIA. You are here to take over our flights" followed by further criicisms. This was done during the briefing and in the presence the presence of 23 crew members. I cannot imagine how the Silkair crew felt. She must have felt terrible during that trip. She felt grossly humilated that even the SQ crew felt sorry for her. Can you please advise who should I raise this matter to? Should I raise it with the CEO or Cabin Crew Department or social media? The initials of the IFM is WLK and with an English name beginning with P. Please let me have your views and advice which is the best route to raise this matter.
