The Pride of SIA

The above photos showed the post Covid cabin crew graduates after a tough 4 months training at STC. Our congratulations! It has been 2 years since the last batch graduated.

A comment from a reader worth reading?

What does it mean when one says that they are 'grateful'.to being

employed as a flight attendant? Particularly SQ..??
If u join JAL, Emirates or Qatar, you will realised that these airlines are rather strict in many areas.
SIA is more inclusive and sophisticated in it's treatment of cabin crew and tech crew.
If u compare operating pattern, SQ are better in most areas.
In the area of discipline, it has been an open-door policy for SQ.
Some of the other airlines, CC operate under a fear factor (Senior crew instruction is to be adhered to, just like in the Army, or else u will be reported).
The early days of SQ, CC operated in this environment. There were few IFM who were very unreasonable.
The anti-CC anonymous guy probably had a hard time from all these fear factor IFM. This is why he has nothing good to say about CC.
And this person is a guy and not a female.
I can narrow him down, haha.

Basically to answer your question about you are better off in SIA :- SQ is more inclusive and the CC are more sophisticated and the CC culture has come a long way and getting better year on year.
On Boh Tong blog, l can see changes in the comments (more sophisticated and refined in their contents commentators coming in). Good.
There is one left who is still putting down CC as a great job.
Boh Tong's blog could have gotten ever more popular through the years but unfortunately in the early days of your blogging, you have 3 anti CC trolls which created havoc in the comments section and chased my readers away from commenting.
This is why your blog did not progress much.
U should have ensured communities guidelines and respect in people's comment in the early days and the blog would be very successful by now.
I noticed in the early days when someone made a good comment, this anti-CC guy would come in and shoot them down and chase all the commenters away, resulting in hardly anyone coming in to comment after that.
All you get and still around are 3 anti CC guys making degrading comments about CC.
Apparently 2 anti guys have sobered down leaving one standing (General Custer's last stand, hehe).
Anyway being a cabin crew (job asides, don't talk about the working part, which is exhausting) truly offer you an awesome lifestyles, even the rich and famous cannot experience.
The CC environment provides you the best entertainment and enrichment in your life on planet Earth that no other job can come close.
Other job can get you higher remuneration but is unable to match the lifestyle.
So u choose: more money and better status job
OR - the CC lifestyles where u make all the young girls cry and enjoy the world with all its intriguing entertainments thrown in.
Cheers.

Would it be a blessing in disguise?

Some cc wannabes having passed their interviews with SIA were told they could not be employed because they have failed their medical checks. Most suffered from scoliosis and in one case ADHD.
Should I feel sorry for them because they told me flying as a cc is their dream or perhaps it may even be a blessing in disguise?
Share with us your thoughts on the above subject.

Why the change?

I am wondering why SIA is reverting to the walk-in interview for cabin crew. The walk-in has ceased and in its place SIA has introduced the online interview for the past few years. I am referring to the interview in Singapore.
Is the above change due to cost or what? Covid cases is still very high. Will the large crowd at the interview registration cause the Covid cases to escalate? No one will know the answer until days or weeks after the interview which is to be held at MBS on 30 July. Let's keep fingers crossed.

Does SIA permits this?

Someone gave me the link to the above and asked whether SIA allows its staff/crew to post in uniform in social media. As far as I know SIA does not allow but it policy may have changed because I also noticed that cabin crew in uniform are posting their videos in YouTube.

Eager to be part of the SIA cabin crew family

Being a cabin crew is not a job but a life style. Many cc and ex cc will agree with me. It is a career that offers limitless travel, interaction with people of different background and cultures and a decent pay.
Seeing so many went for the recent interviews with SIA and many couldn't pass the interview, I have encourage them to consult the experts who could help them get their dream job.
I, myself had help many got into SIA and some other airlines like EK, CX etc.
Just last week a young lady contacted me and asked that I coached her for her second face to face interview with SIA. She had failed her first interview a few weeks ago and wanted to make sure to pass it this time. I agreed to coach via Zoom as I am not in Singapore. A face to face one on one coaching would be ideal. However, after my coaching she proceeded for her last Saturday's interview. Needless to say she passed with flying colors. Now all is left is her medical this week. When she passed her medical, she will become part of the cabin crew family with the world's best airlines.

BT, I think you should just ignore comments from immature readers.. and not drag our alma mater into a senseless debate where there is no judge..

We all strive to live a life with fulfilment, a life with no regrets, not a life doing earth-shaking important things.

For the naysayers leaving comments here, are your comments meant for current cabin crew, or wannabes? If you dislike the cc job so much, why are u following this blog? Or are u hijacking BT’s blog to vent out frustration in your life? Then may be u should have your own blog.

These Local Celebs Were SIA Flight Attendants Before Joining Showbiz

Did you know that some of our more famous celebs used to work as SIA cabin crew before they became stars?
Before she made her mark co-hosting City Beat with Kym Ng and Bryan Wong, Sharon Au joined Singapore Airlines (SIA) as a cabin crew. She was good at what she did and snagged the Best Trainee Award at her graduation ceremony in 1994.

Being a cabin crew isn't that bad la

SINGAPORE: The number of people applying for cabin crew positions at Singapore Airlines (SIA) has gone up by three to four times, compared to levels before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in early 2020.
Responding to CNA queries, SIA said on Monday (May 30) that it aims to recruit around 2,000 cabin crew members this financial year, with more than 800 applicants selected so far since the airline restarted its recruitment drives in March.
About 60 per cent of those selected are returning crew, the airline added.

BT: Above taken from CNA report on 30 May 2022 ...read here if you like.
What I like to emphasize is :
  • the number of people applying for the cc job has gone by three to four times and
  • 60% of those selected are returning crew
If the cc job is so bad as claimed numerous times by some sceptics here then why the above? If the cc job is that bad surely the number of applicants will decline and those who had left won't want to return to be cc.. right?
Another strange phenomena is how come the current cc (I am sure many visit this blog and read about the cons of being cc and yet stay dumb)??
It looks like I am the only one defending the pros of being or becoming cc.

COE for cars over 1600cc has hit the roof!

The above is for June COE. It has crossed the S$100,000 mark for the first time since 1994. For S$71,000 one can buy a new Mercedes 200 in Japan (pic below).

What's your take on the subject?

This comment made be SAD :-(

 Hi Boh Tong

I agree to large extend that a former RI like youself shouldnt be steward/CCE for 35 years straight shouldnt be the norm.

Usually, people from elite schools such as yours tend to gravitate towards management positions in MNC.

Though its okay to do it less than 5 years for experience and use it as bragging rights, do it for lifetime seems a waste of potential opportunities outside of flying.

When we're old, we can only look bad and wonder "What if..." this and that. Life shouldn't be flying for life.

Theres more to it.
